Guessing they are using this to see if there is something out there that they haven't already considered. All the usual suspects that were in the nickname thread and the majority that have or will be submitted have likely been vetted to a point. Unfortunately not sure that the amount of crap they are going to have to wade through will be worth it for the chance of something new coming out of it.

They are actually behind if they are just getting to it this afternoon. I've gotten texts from FU grads about it and it made Fark plus a few other sites. The colossal amount of idiotic and offensive stuff they are going to have to sort through is going to be mind blowing. Not too mention the FU mensa club has already posted some of their best ideas. Agreed. Much easier to clamor for a coach to be let go when someone else is footing the bill for the buyout even if a change in directions is justified.

You're operating under the assumption that people outside of UND fans actually care and if they do, enough to actually take a stand. North Dakota's own congressional delegation didn't even care enough to raise too much of a stink. The tribal councils of the tribes didn't care enough to allow for votes that were acceptable for terms of the settlement. Have you seen what has been going on with the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians? The public sentiment isn't going to miraculously shift into UND's favor on this. I'm in the acceptance stage on it. I'll still display my Fighting Sioux memorabilia and wear clothing with the logo on it but the name is gone and is going to be replaced. Finally have this millstone removed from UND and its athletic department will be able to focus the energy on productive things.

I specifically stated that Jones has rightfully been ripped for some of his "winning" seasons and to turn around and give Smith credit for one that was almost exactly the same is pretty hypocritical outside of it being a decent improvement for a first year head coach.

You are correct on James coaching but there was still no buyout required to move Boots along, they just didn't renew his contract and he wasn't very happy about it. James was also the likely next head coach until they found out that they could get Smith for what they got him for. I don't think anyone would complain if we had Smith but I haven't seen people step up to pay the buyout of the current head coach's contract that would have been necessary. Same thing with getting Walthall.

USD didn't have to pay a buyout due to their state law only allowing 1 year contracts for state employees. And while USD had a winning record, they went from 12-18 to 17-16, the same kind of "winning" record that Jones has rightfully been ripped for. An improvement for a first year coach no doubt, but had it not been for 2 sub D-1 games, they would have had a losing record.

Considering the basketball teams have put up new banners since the settlement agreement and the Fighting Sioux logo doesn't appear on them, I think you're going to be disappointed.

That is only the current list that ESPN has. It is not a finalized list and gets updated as they come across and can confirm names.

Just for actual reference, UND is at 51.7% vs. 52.9% if you pull out MacMillian's faceoff numbers which would rank #21 in the nation.

RPI doesn't carry over from year to year and the schedule is typically made out a year or two in advance. Due to adjustments to the RPI formula, losing home games to bad times is absolutely killer and beating good teams on the road offers a huge bump. The former absolutely killed UND this year. I do agree that if it were to continue, UND could have a little bit harder time picking up one time money OOC games but despite Jones other downfalls, he does seem to have good relationships with a fair amount of regional schools and continues to get UND pretty decent money games. The opposite side (not just UND either) is getting some of those teams here. I believe UNI is supposed to be the Betty next year, which would be an absolutely huge game. The Big Sky as a whole needs to improve their non-conference schedule, though that's easier said then done due to there being a more limited number of OOC games to choose from out west. Playing and losing against highly ranked teams does more for you then beating low ranked teams, especially for low mid-majors, which is one of the big flaws pointed out when using not only RPI but conference RPI to compare teams and conferences.

This would have been the only logical reason to buy a pass into the High Point Bar and Grill. I really thought UND would be the early game and couldn't bring myself to spend an extra $30 just for the privilege of buying overpriced beer.

Any way you can have the plug pull automatically if UND were to come out on the wrong end today or tomorrow? Might save a lot of people some embarrassment and the rest of us having to wade through it.
