We may never get it - there's an East Coast Bias and a "Mountain Time Bias" and yes we have to earn it but the defense did this year and ......
-
Oh I"m on board with the turnaround and that we are headed in the right direction - the Weber Game was rock bottom yet the team and coaches were able to suck it up - it would have been easy and understandable to drop the last two games but they turned out to be the best two games of the season and we were playing our scout team quarterback and third stringers all over the place. Shows the character of those kids.
-
Yup gotta keep it in perspective - middle of season was the tough guys - Montana, Montana State and EW, end of the season was the soft part of the schedule. Last two games were encouraging but the competition was soft (and yes I think NA was a pretender).

UND knows that Kelly is in the perfect position - He can work through the name change and retire then the new president starts with a clean slate and no nickname baggage or blame.

Isn't that what makes for good rivalries? Not apologizing for them as I am a true Sioux fan, but as has been shared the "vocal role" against the nickname was driven by the college president and liberal professors on campus (sound familiar to UND?), the hit on Chat - yup Marvin was known as a hitter as were all Marvins, as far as players diving - no one is better than the Gophers. I was not questioning that we have plenty to not like about them but I was questioning the need to "be little" them. THey are a rival that's easy to dislike and a nice annual road trip. Maybe it's because I hate it when the state of North Dakota gets bashed nationally or when schools like Minnesota and BU look down their nose at us - I think we as a fan base can be better than that. Let's hate them because it's a healthy rivalry.

FREE Ticket for Tonight's Game at SCSU

That was their former President Potter's agenda - once he left so did any support of the issue. Ironically he left SCSU in financial distress - should have spent more time watching the budget. The story also goes that liberal professors would offer student's extra credit to go hold a sign at UND games, once the extra credit went away so did their concern about the nickname.

So now they've found a way to infuse FU into hockey conversations - FU decision makers are not interested in adding hockey, they had the chance, they passed. Can't we try and keep the hockey threads an FU-free zone? I have never understood the reason for bashing Saint Cloud - we don't like it when the rodent fans look down their nose at us, why do so many insist on doing it to Saint Cloud. Having been to several games there (always when the Sioux are in town) they have a nice arena, recently remodeled which shows support, a great student section that is always full and have invested in coaches which has resulted in strong recruiting and a run of great teams. Plus their booster club is very welcoming to UND fans at their social every year - it's a competitive rivalry and an easy road trip. What's not to like?
-
What good could it do you already get every recruit you really want?
-
Love it but I can bet there are many liberal do-gooders who would find something to hate about it.

I believe the ultimate decision makers on campus will not allow "No Nickname". They will simply use the "No Name just keeps the Fighting Sioux alive" argument. Remember the Native American Cultural Center representatives also stated after their walk around campus that they wanted a new nickname chosen (which they demanded happen by this fall or they would start a negative campaign nationwide to discourage Native Americans from attending UND - wondering whatever happened to that threat?).
-
First everyone was concerned the decision was going to be made by a small group and leave out a majority of the stakeholders, now that they are trying to give everyone and every group a chance to participate they get raked for dragging their feet. Would someone please share how they could have accomplished both?
-
Yes but a reminder - piss off the NCAA and they have ways of getting even - no hosting, if you are on the bubble you don't get in, the "if we catch you wearing any Sioux clothing your team goes home episode. I wouldn't doubt if they would threaten to take away any hosting UND has already been awarded.
-
Yes it's walking (crawling) distance from the hotel.
-
MC's will be wall to wall Sioux fans - get your Hairy Buffalo at MC's and you'll be ready for the night. Remember the social at Brother's Pub on Saturday from 4-6. Both are located downtown.

You can assume the worst and believe there is a conspiracy or you can believe they are doing the best they can in a no-win situation (created by the NCAA). Other schools that have had to change their names have gone through the same pain - Miami of Ohio who was just in town was one of them. UND has named a large committee with lots of members with great UND backgrounds - I can't believe they are all in on the same conspiracy or that someone won't speak up if they feel they are being manipulated. Honestly I wouldn't want to be in their shoes - no matter what name they come up with (and it appears just being North Dakota won't fly) they are going to hear from those who hate it. Really what more could UND be doing to try and involve as many people with an interest in this as possible?
-
Well of course they are because as was stated over and over again earlier this season, a team with 5 losses has NO CHANCE of making the playoffs.
-
It was a very rushed day - Champion's club over at the CanAm - maybe they should have made an announcement!!! I was outside when the team walked in and was very loud and proud - that crowd was very small also.

https://www.facebook.com/arentwesiouxenough?fref=nf It appears that no name is a possibility - unless they are just appeasing the masses.
-
The story I heard was that after the game he was pretty distraught and had been getting taunted all game - he broke and came up the side into the stands - I didn't see it just heard about it.
-
No matter what name is chosen there will be reasons to hate it - I still like the thought of finding something regionally linked. Someone suggested this name to me: Nordic Warriors Of course you can easily trash any name that is suggested but it's just another possibility linked to the Scandinavian culture of the area,
-
Anyone know anything about NAU's #66 climbing into the stands after the game and going after some fans?
-
The opposite of love isn't hate - it's indifference. Many FU fans try to claim they are indifferent about UND but their hate language says otherwise.
-
I do agree that it is inevitable that there will be a new nickname chosen. Just for the sake of discussion however I have to say that based on your criteria even if UND was sincere in wanting to move on without a nickname there is no way they could because there will always be fans wearing Fighting Sioux clothing. Uber politically correct Stanford chose a color as their mascot and there are still plenty of alumni that wear Stanford Indian clothing. Just because a school can't control what it's fans wear and cheer doesn't mean they aren't sincere.

After reading the story in the GF Herald there is no way that no nickname is an option.
