  1. Damn so the whole season is going to be spent in the Fire Jones thread. Glad this thread does not reflect how a majority of fans support this team. Of course as has been said anyone is welcome to share their opinion but does it have to be shared over and over and over. Here's a novel idea I think I'll go to the game this week and cheer for the team because these guys chose to come to UND - and hey I hear it can get cold in Grand Forks - but they came and they are playing and studying and trying to better themselves. At the end of the day it's a game.
  2. I'll take the Illinois State and FU match up because I think IS is the only team capable of beating FU and that is the result I want to see.
  3. I think you are over-reacting to postings on a UND fan site. Of course fans want to get all the mileage they can out of a victory over their in-state rival and twist the knife as much as you can. No doubt FU had a season of epic proportions last year with the only blight being the loss to their in-state rival. Of course last year their line was that game meant nothing to them - let's see if that still holds true this year. It was a bad game for UND - they're young adults playing a game - it's fun to win, it sucks to lose. That's all.
  4. Here's what I've been told about Standing Rock. 1. They are located 500 miles from UND they really don't care about UND. 2. More than half their tribal members reside in South Dakota which makes them care even less about a school in northeast North Dakota. The reality is they never should have been included in the NCAA agreement, but they were and thus the results. By the way don't think that even if Standing Rock had been left out it would have been a done deal. I read a quote once from an NCAA representative that said the public vote by Spirit Lake did not meet the NCAA requirements - the requirement was for Tribal Council approval - something they continue to be divided on. As unfair as the process was the controversy would NEVER go away as long as there are liberals on college campuses wanting to protect other people's feelings.
  5. Knowing that the students are on break just wondering if there has been any promotion of ticket specials fo this game - hoping to make the trip and catch the basketball game too.
  6. Already got some bison trolls here greasing the skids for a home loss. UND was picked to finish around 9th in the Big Sky. You can bet money that if UND wins there will be trolls here sharing how terrible both teams are.
  7. Nice to see "Sioux" in print - I think that reporter is going to get a little talking to.
  8. That's what I'm hoping. Just respect our belief in the history and importance of the name - I don't ever want to be made to feel that wearing Fighting Sioux clothing is wrong, mean-spirited or anti-UND.
  9. Wonder what this means "The task force also agreed they want to address the people who have said they’ll never let go of the Fighting Sioux." There are still alumni from Stanford University and Miami of Ohio that wear their former school name and logo - doesn't mean they don't support their U, it more likely means the name/logo is a part of their experience and memories from their time at the school.
  10. Wow - a little sensitive. It was just a general comment and I would bet that less than 20% of posters on this site are members of the Champions Club - no way to prove it just my guess.
  11. I agree - but a member of the committee said that "No Name" was an option (quoted in the Bismarck Tribune i believe). I'm thinking UND cringed at that.
  12. I am not among the conspiracy group. I think they are doing the best they can to get many voices involved and be visible. However, unless they release the entire survey with vote breakdown, to many people it will appear the UND is steering the survey to say what it wants. Another thing to keep in mind about this survey is its sample size - which is quite small (but does reflect those who care enough to take it.)
  13. This is where statistics and reporting gets tricky. It says that "when asked if the plan is to end up with a nickname what should the timeline be" Answering this question doesn't mean you want a new nickname, you could answer this question and still be among those who don't want a nickname or want to keep the Fighting Sioux (a pipe dream) - the question was "If the plan is for a new nickname what should the timeline be?". Later it says responses were divided among the three options (interesting that they didn't provide specific percentages just a general "responses were divided." I wonder how they were divided?). When asked their opinion of how the timeline should look if the task force chooses to create a plan that ends with picking a new nickname, 30 percent of respondents said they would be in favor of picking a new nickname within the next year, leaving flexibility to make sure the process is thoroughly vetted, and 29 percent said they would be in favor of picking a new nickname as soon as possible. According to members, responses were divided among those who wanted to adopt a new nickname, those who want to return to the old Fighting Sioux name and those in favor of not using any nickname.
  14. http://www.grandforksherald.com/content/30-percent-favor-new-und-nickname-according-survey-results-released-task-force Interesting spin by the Herald, because what this really says is that 70% of those that participated (mostly alumni) don't want a new nickname. Edit: the Herald obviously felt the same way as they changed the headline.
  15. I've never seen anyone post anything insulting about a player's looks or size on this site. I will admit many of their posters seem to be immature twenty-somethings.
  16. These are the types of games that great teams win - to coin an FU phrase - this was their super bowl FU is destined to finish at the bottom of their conference. When one player has to score 33 to keep you in the game that doesn't bode well for them. Interesting to hear them throw out phrases like "toe to toe" guess it's okay for them to have morale victories. As the UND coaches like to say the sweetest victories are on the opponents home court. Can't wait to see this team in Big Sky Conference play.
  17. The thing about beating a team that is 1-7 is if you lose it just adds more fuel to the "Fire" and if you win you don't get any credit for it. Drake seems to have fallen on hard times wasn't that long ago they were the talk of mid-major basketball. I wonder if their fan site has a thread asking for their coach to be fired?
  18. It's always fun to spend other people's money. I do agree that the REA needs to hear from the fans about dissatisfaction with the fan experience - but have t to wonder if they really care about anything other than hockey over there.
  19. That's another exaggeration - driving is just a very small part of this guy's overall job (as I read the story) but still seems like a sweet job. (Damn defending FU again i have to go take a shower I feel so dirty.). I have to admit FU makes it so easy to poke fun at them - they are the Tommy Boy of higher education. Because the hits just keep on comin ...http://www.inforum.com/content/ndsu-foundation-turmoil-over-high-turnover-allegations-retaliation
  20. I can see the argument that a university president could be more productive if they didn't have to drive. (wow I'm defending FU). Sadly some of this is driven by small-town mentality. There are still people out there who think if you make more than $10 an hour you're over payed. I would also say that it's easier to drive around in Grand Forks than it is in Fargo - just my opinion.
  21. Yah and it wasn't that long ago that UND was the front runner - everything goes in cycles. I know this is a fan site so it's the place to rant but geez sometimes I wonder how many of you would do if you were held to the same level at your jobs.
  22. When UND decided to go DI everyone knew that basketball was going to take a beating. No chance of ever winning a national champion (compared to DII), much tougher recruiting, trading one of the top DII conferences for a lower mid-level. I'm not sure where this discussion is leading to - fire the coach, get out of the Big Sky, out recruit Kansas, take money from somewhere at UND and funnel it into MBB? At the end of the day it's a game being played by young adults who are at UND to get an education. It's fine to discuss and share opinions but let's not forget to enjoy the season (win or lose).
  23. There were calls for Brewster's head after his first season - good thing the fans don't make the coaching decisions.
  24. So you are saying that justifies him making all conference after just playing two games?
  25. Hmm how does that compare to Jer's numbers? Not seeing any bias here. (not saying Jer deserved it but he certainly had better numbers than Forte but Forte played in Mountain Time.
