They've thrown "Spirit" out there a lot. Of course it couldn't be "Spirit of the Sioux" and perhaps even the smallest hint that "Spirit" relates to Sioux might be enough to kill it. The "North Dakota Spirit" has been used around the state in various capacities over the years.

Fun name to throw out but no way they choose a name that tweaks the nose of the NCAA (not saying I don't like it just saying reality says we are in for a name that is very well researched so as not to offend anyone. I say the writing is on the wall for the North Dakota Spirit.)

Read once that the worst way to predict the outcome of an upcoming game is the outcome of the previous game. Still thinking it's one game at a time and each one is gonna be a battle that we will be the underdog in - just wanting to see continued improvement. I'm going to enjoy all aspects of this season, the best is yet to come.

After the Pick Six combined with the meager offensive output I can't think of any reason not to give Bartles a chance. I know there are issues with the offensive line but why not give him some prime time playing time?

NO ONE had this game down as a winnable one this year - we have seen improvements over last year - wonder how long it will take the trolls to come over here and quote some of the comments elsewhere as once more proof of their superiority.

Perhaps Mussman has a perpetual issue with making decisions on quarterbacks - they lost an all conference one from last year so are dealing with rotating between a transfer drop down and a rookie (not sure what year but he had taken few snaps last year). St. Cloud is middle of the pack - blows out the lower tier and gets blown out by the upper tier. They play the Upper Iowa Peacocks this weekend (I'd rather be playing Montana and facing a blow out than the Peacocks and a romp). Saw a story that his two sons are on one of the St. Cloud high school teams - one playing tight end, one playing on the line.

Another example of that world class education.

Student attendance going down is a nation-wide trend as most probably have read - even Alabama has issues. When the stadium was on campus it's not like the students were overflowing their section it just made it easier for drunk frat boys to walk over for the first half. Student attendance at football games might be solved by adjusting expectations.

UND is a huge underdog in this game so It's enjoyable to have visitors that are able to have an intelligent conversation and not just come here to insult UND and its fans. We know we have some building to do to be in the top tier, sometimes it's just nice to talk football.

I like the discussion but seriously there is no way any leftist/sympathist/protectoroftheweak will allow for any name that even remotely preserves the name FIghting Sioux - not likely they would embrace "Norske" either - hasn't the table been set for UND Spirit, UND Green and White?

I was at the game - supporting the team. I'm not one to read a few sentences in the paper and start arm chair coaching or dissing players and coaches. Injuries have weakened what is a young, develooping offense. We all know the O line and D line need to develop and they will. The games that are considered winnable will need to be won by defense and special teams - both doable. We very well might get destroyed by the top tier Big Sky teams this year - doesn't mean these kids or coaching staff aren't trying or that they deserve to be beat down by their own fans. Leave the negativism to the trolls - lord knows they will be climbing over the wall in the next few weeks as display their inferiority complex daily. Thought for the day - I love when trolls come here and tell us we are arrogant. My definitions: Pride - when you post about your team on your own fan site. Arrogance - when you post about your team on another team's fan site.

They would accept Norse because there is already at least one college that uses it Luther College - a small DIII college in Iowa (which I do not see as a deal breaker). being of Norwegian decent I like it (and thus would not organize a walk around campus in protest). But the North Dakota Norse doesn't exactly slide on the tounge (unless you pronouce it Norsk - however North Dakota NOR-SKI does .

Most of the smack is eithe generated by trolls or in response to trolls - there is a difference between healthy discussion/difference of opinion and troll smack - if we create a smack thread we are just inviting more trolls and more smack.

When someone admits they are a troll they should be banned. I also think when someone comes on board and admits they hate UND (constantly)they should be banned. When someone continually posts degrading posts about UND and seldom has anything else to say they shoul be banned. It would take me less than 5 minutes to come up with a list and the site would be much more enjoyable.

Even though they have day jobs don't the play by play guys for UND hockey actually work for UND directly when they are announcing games? Perhaps we will continue to see Pat on the air now that he is a UND employee. He's one of the nicest guys in sports you will ever meet and great to know he's staying here, connected with UND.
