  1. Just a reminder - it was the GF Herald editorial that suggested that UND send a message about not wearing Sioux gear to games - last I heard UND's stance was they would never try and control what fans wear - however there are a few groups that want the name/logo scrubbed from UND (and actually from Grand Forks). . Other than being labeled as Old School I don't think that Stanford, Miami of Ohio or Marquette have ever tried to create an environment where wearing their former nickname is a stigma.
  2. Okay Corrie Wenzel of the Grand Forks Herald has fired the first shot across the bow when it comes to starting a campaign to remove Sioux clothing from UND hockey games. Here is his quote in an editorial in the Herald, "We wonder if the university is weary of Sioux-themed attire at hockey games, or the yelling of “Sioux” at the conclusion of the national anthem. If so, Mitchell would be wise to just say it." He is basically asking that Mitchell, the new VP of Diversity, make a statement asking fans to stop wearing Sioux clothing to hockey games.
  3. A small group gathers at BWW (another company with a UND graduate at the top by the way) and somehow the story is stretched that GF is becoming an FU town - really? Don't most Universities have one sport that is considered the cornerstone - at FU it's FCS football, at UND it's hockey. Doesn't mean the other sports don't get support, but the numbers usually point to the cornerstone. When there is a home football game and home hockey game on the same day UND gets between 17,000 - 20,000 fans in the stands (obviously lots of overlap) but that is still a lot of tickets sold in one day. When I get to GF for a game with my family they are amazed at how everyone in town is wearing UND/Sioux clothing. Many mid-level college towns wish they had the support from their community like UND has.
  4. Wonder if SDSU fans would ever cheer for USD? I would cheer for SDSU or USD over FU every time. Not sure where all the name calling comes from - once again another thread gone south. And actually FU winning doesn't bother me at all - I actually don't care either way - the game was on ESPN2 so it would have been hard to find anyway.
  5. So your team wins a national championship and the first place you post is on UND fan site? You feel so inferior you need to come here and try and rub it in - what about your true rival SDSU - gonna go post there too? You just finished a great 4-year run and you top it off by showing more of your immaturity and lack of class.
  6. http://www.nativetimes.com/index.php/life/commentary/10985-giago-it-is-high-time-for-america-to-grow-up Hasn't it been more than a few generations since anyone at UND dressed up like Native Americans? Hopefully he will do more than write about FSU.
  7. No need to respond but it seems to me like someone cleaned up this town and sent some trolls packing (or at least sitting in pergatory for awhile) Might just be wishful thinking but if it's true thank you.

$2.79 in central Minnesota - Saudi Arabia's trying to shut down North Dakota oil wells.
  9. Really - I thought there was an equal amount who said stay North Dakota - it was only when the question was worded to say they HAD TO choose a nickname that a majority said move ahead - lie, damn lies and statistics. (Although I am quite confident there is no way they are going to let there be no nickname - there's plenty of advertising agencies waiting in line for that job.)
  10. So now the media makes a big deal out of the cost of finding a new nickname - and now UND is getting blased for allowing too much discussion on the process. I remember the issue of the expense of moving away from Fighting Sious was brought up very early in the discussion and the response from the liberals was that it needed to be done no matter what the cost. If you think this is expensive just wait until the cost for changing over to a new name and removing all references to it on campus come into play. The ones who forced this issue should be made to come up with the dough (not gonna happen) Speaking of dough - maybe some of the groups that pushed this so hard could have a fry bread fundraiser and donate the money to the cause?
  11. Why do you care - oh we know why.
  12. Another cheaper option - the Ralph starts some mite, midget even adult hockey leagues and every team is called Fighting Sioux with a different third name that is a word from the Sioux language.
  13. De Rouen was 0 0 5 against Montana then put up season high against Montana State - sporatic but at least you can see what he can do. After watching both games on Big Sky it's obvious this team has some great individual talent but they have some jelling to do - lots of mid-conference schools would love to have a 7 foot freshman who appears to have some ability that can be developed.
  14. Is the turn over set in stone or is there a possibility the REA ownership would stay where it is (specifically to prevent the removal of logos from happening). Also do you really think UND would spend the money to remove the logos in the floor and in the more permanent locations?
  15. Based on the answer in the FAQs on the site the REA doesn't have to ever change any logos that are part of the architecture, just the ones in the carpet or other locations that might wear out. I think we all know how the REA adminstration feels about removing the name and logo - (it's never going to happen). Regarding the outside consultants it appears they were hand picked by the administration - by that I mean it doesn't appear that they took proposals from a group of possible consultants and chose one - these were chosen with no competition. (I'm not saying there is a conspiracy just wondering if there was any competitive process).
  16. Other than Let's Go Sioux does the crowd really do much organized cheering anymore? And other than hockey the students don't really show up regularly and when they do they don't lead the cheering very much.
  17. When you consider the foul trouble we were in, and very early in the game, it's at least encouraging that our bench can pull their own weight (acknowledging the competition wasn't that strong.).
  18. UND in first place in the Big Sky (well it's a start) - heard the announcer reference that UND is in Fargo during the Big Sky feed - that's forgiveable I can never remember which town Montana State and U of Montana are in either.
  19. Shanks with 12, nice to have a seven-footer that appears to have a set of hands - just needs to put on some beef. 21/25 on free throws!
  20. Gotta like the free throw shooting accuracy - hope it's a trend.
  21. Gotta love Hobaugh's passion and hustle for the game.
  22. The Big Sky Conference needs to set some expectations if they want to claim that every game is available online - no audio til half-time and now the video feed locks up. Regarding the game I'm sad to say it but this does look like the #9 vs #11 teams in the conference - I'm hoping they improve over the course of the season.
  23. There will be more comments on siouxsports bitching if we lose, then posts cheering if we win. It's just easier.
  24. I agree with your thoughts but having a new name/logo would not have prevented what happened last spring or in the future nor will it remove UND from the blame game because the source of the blame game continues to exist on campus. Ironically they have their own private building on campus built with public tax dollars. And while they shouldn't even be on the list of organizations having a say in the name you can bet they will be very vocal (and I"m betting that they will find some way to have a problem with any name that even remotely could be referenced back to Native American culture.)
  25. Thunder would be considered for all those reasons - Thunder won't be considering because it's too close to "The Thundering HTerd". Still not clear if not choosing a nickname, other than North Dakota, is acceptable. Based on what the Native Americans who protested on campus said not choosing a name isn't acceptable to them (because it allows Fighting Sioux to remain as the subversive nickname.)
