  1. I'm not questioning that there is dissatisfaction with the BB season this year - actually both seasons but I also have to say that any individuals opinion about "public sentiment" is purely conjecture - of course if you did an actual poll that would be quantatative and I'm sure with the bad taste of both seasons fresh the results would not be positive - I highly doubt the majority of "public opinion" would say the coach(es) need to be fired. Even on this board it's not the "general sentiment".
  2. They are also savvy enough to know that you don't gauge public opinion from a chat room.
  3. What a surprise - I never would have guessed that a bison alum would choose Fargo over Grand Forks - you guys excel at high jacking threads to feed your insecurity. To each his own every town has its pluses and minuses. I like being able to go the mall and not worrying about my kids getting flashed, or knowing that when I sign a petition it's going to be accepted by the state (see what I did here).
  4. If you are trying to build excitement and an audience you have to commit to promoting all aspects of it. Do a quick check of what other schools do to promote their spring football games - they make it an event. UND gave it a shot a few years ago with their spring tailgating competitions but now seems to have dropped the ball.
  5. Great example coming up - let's see what they do to create interest in the spring football scrimmage - last year was less than horrible. But a pre-season hockey game against Manitoba - pull out the stops.
  6. Here's the story (joke) about the three envelopes. A young coach had just been hired as the new coach at a bigger university. The coach who was stepping down met with him privately and presented him with three numbered envelopes. "Open these when you run into problems with the alumni." he said. Well, things went along pretty smoothly, but a few months later, the season took a downturn and he was really catching a lot of heat. About at his wit's end, he remembered the envelopes. He went to his drawer and took out the first envelope. The message read, "Blame the previous coach." The new coach called a press conference and tactfully laid the blame at the feet of the previous coach. Satisfied with his comments, the alumni responded positively, things began to pick up and the issue was soon behind him. The next season the team was again experiencing a dip in wins, and the message boards were getting heated. Having learned from his previous experience, the coach quickly opened the second envelope. The message read, "Reorganize your staff." This he did, and the team turned things around. After several consecutive successful seasons, the team once again fell on difficult times. The coach went to his office, closed the door and opened the third envelope. The message said, "Prepare three envelopes."
  7. http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPID=6405&DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=209951228 For those AD wannabe's - doesn't look like the position will be opening soon.
  8. Well that seals it for me - let Jones know to get his three envelopes ready.
  9. This is tiresome but with the crack job John Boy got with his degree from FU it appears to be his only joy in life. You must also remember that there were two generations of FU fans that never saw a playoff game in the FU Dome in that time period.
  10. It's great to have depth in our conference we need a couple of teams in the Frozen Four.
  11. Now that is ironic - back in the 80s we had a spring party on a farm we called the "Race to Reynolds" it got so big we had shirts made one year and the cars were backed out onto the gravel road.
  12. I realize that none of these names are unique but none of these schools has UND's baggage either. I'd like to note that the name suggested was "Brave" not Braves.
  13. Except they could have said "It's hostile and abusive as a school icon stop using it" but the NCAA doesn't want anyone to use it.
  14. Sadly I think this is correct. It's the same thinking the NCAA gave when they required UND to protect the Fighting Sioux nickname - which means they continue to make and sell a small amount of the "hostile and abusive" logo. The NCAA knew that if they required UND to retire and never use it the logo and name would become rampant.
  15. Time to thin the herd on this site.
  16. The Tribe, The Brave (as in "and the home of the Brave"), the Warriors - they all merit consideration except there will be a liberal someone in the room of decision-makers that says "Nope - too Native American".
  17. Here is a post from Archie Fool Bear's Facebook page: Today some friends contacted me saying President Kelley is making another push to get rid of the Fighting Sioux name. I will continue my quest to make sure that the last of our gifts and ceremonies are honored. We here at Standing Rock were never allowed to vote on this and I'm pretty sure every leader has their personal reasons. But when it comes to our ceremonies, there isn't a tribal motion, or tribal resolution that can UNDO that ceremony. I know I will catch some flack for my continued support of what was done in the past. When our Tribal Leader of the time, along with the descendants of the one of this nations most quoted leader(sitting bull) gave the University the right to use the name and do so with our ceremonies then we should continue to respect that. I hear all the anti name comments, all the personal experiences, and all the hoopla against UND's use of the name and the comment that the ceremony didn't mean a thing, this was said by own tribal leader. But somewhere in all this, the ceremony conducted by Mr. Ed Loon as directed by the Chairman in 1969 should be respected by leaders of today. Our ceremonies either mean something or nothing at all. I'd like to thank those elders who gave me their support to continue the fight to keep the name "Sioux" alive, "Never forget who you are, you are part of the great Sioux Nation don't let anyone take that away we not victims we are the great Sioux nation". With the national push to do away with Indian Names proudly given to schools and other uses for either their Identity or a sports team soon enough, no one will know who the Sioux People are and soon enough some congressional person will take this to that level. So to those who have passed on, those descendants of both Mr Loon and those descendants of Sitting Bull who gave the name back in the 30's, I will continue with my promise to fight for what we did. ..I will continue to fight the good fight.
  18. They will never pick this but you could easily go with "Warrior" and use a Viking Warrior icon. But it won't happen because someone in the room will scream NA. And if it's okay to use a leprican because it is ficticious it should be okay to use a icon similar to "Thor" the Norwegian god of Thunder, ie: Warrior..
  19. Actually it was being shouted in the 70s - right after they stopped holding up copies of a newspaper and pretending to read it while the other team was being introduced.
  20. Did they have the problem before or after the NCAA sent letters telling them to have a problem with it?
  21. How does it compare to indecent exposure, DUI, minor possession and petition fraud? Really I'd like to know especially with marijuana being legalized in other states (I understand it is illegal in North Dakota.)
  22. It was shared at the Sious Sports social that this team has now won 97 games in their 4 years and that every group of freshmen since 2002 has won at least 100 games in their 4 years at UND. This team has a few more wins in them.
  23. So would that sign be considered policitcal, derogatory or obsene? I am not seeing how it was any of those. It was up for a total of about 5 seconds and security had it down - how was it determined in that short amount of time? Why did the student's deserve to be escorted from the building? Was the reason for the sign Kelly's stance on the nickname or do student's have other issues with him?
  24. Love the reference to getting chills when the home crowd shouts "Sioux" at the end of the national anthem - wonder how long that tradition will hold with the changing of the name? It would be nice to see similar effort put into regular programs like this for the football and basketball teams - it helps create a bond between the teams and the fans and would probably help attendance.
  25. We once had a fantasy league where you earned points for getting posted quoted on Bison-swille - perhaps we can start a new league based on earning points in this thread.
