Vote on your final 5 nickname choices (just ND is out)
CMSioux replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
Prediction: Outside Grand Forks: Roughrider in a landslide Inside Grand Forks: Roughrider and Fighting Hawks a little closer but Roughrider wins I just hope they don't screw up the voting process. I have been active for more than 20 years and get called every 3 months for money and didn't get an email about the upcoming vote. When I went into their system they had my email address correct. -
NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
CMSioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
Geez you would think for an attorney that guy would have done a little better research - his proposals are so full of holes it's embarrassing that got printed in a newspaper. For one thing, those within the tribes and those liberals working "for the good of the Native Americans" have no interest in revenue sharing - they just want the Fighting Sioux name gone because it is the one school left they figured out the NCAA would bully into submission. I can't say but I've never heard that any money from UND Sioux clothing ever went to a special fund, certainly not within the last 10 years. in fact that is a sticking point with those that Native American Cultural Center whenever the statement about them getting their education paid for is thrown out. If there was a time that money would have talked it would have been decades ago. Spirit Lake was already on board without any money. 75% of Standing Rock lives in South Dakota and has bigger problems and doesn't want to vote no matter what. If UND was to wave money at them now imagine the outcry from those who are "looking out for the best interests of the Native Americans". -
Hope our defense has continued its improvement from last year because there is no way our offense can make a jump that big from last year - it can be better but it won't be like the Porshes we saw today. Could we pull off an upset - well it happens several times every Saturday and it could start next Saturday.

What team is this thread about again?

What "Nancy" is worried about whether or not the uniform matches - stop wasting 10 minutes every day matching your belt to your shoes and learn something useful like smoking a pork butt.
-
The point I want to ask is - if I haven't received an email from UND today does that mean they don't have my email address. I find that hard to believe since I get a phone call about every three months "just to make sure we have your current contact information" followed by a request for money. By the way has anyone received their Champions Club membership cards yet?

Or "Now watch as this thread turns the process into a flaming disaster".

NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
CMSioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
Back away from the ledge - now the discussion is that fans can't wear FIghting Sioux clothing to away games? And the thought is that there would be a big enough complaint from host schools that the NCAA would take action - now that's just frickin ridiculous. What if I wear a shirt that has an eagle feather on it? -
Perhaps the text should have read "State of Confusion" - this stuff writes itself.

NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
CMSioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
So it all comes down to this; Pick a name, any name FIghting Sioux continues as the unofficial nickname and nothing changes as far as crowd cheering, wearing Sioux gear to games etc, - of course the lack of access to Fighting Sioux clothing means an evolution will take place but it could take at least a decade. Based on my personal experience I know there are many current students who have a connection to Fighting Sioux and won't be the first on the new nickname bandwagon. Any complaints about Sioux cheers would be baseless since UND has a new nickname. -
Yup - the outline on the shirt is the border of South Dakota. Well it appears with the possibility of UND being "North Dakota" SU has chosen to take South Dakota.

NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
CMSioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
No matter where you fall on North Dakota as the nickname you have to admit the whole "UND could be sanctioned if fans cheer Fighting Sioux" is a big ruse. I've read Sports Illustrated stories about Stanford graduates still wearing Redmen shirts and we all know that there are many Warriors Forever fans in Marquette. So why hasn't there ever been any threats from the NCAA to those schools about wearing Redman/Warrior logos to playoffs or cheers? It just seems too convenient that the NCAA is willing to throw out threats like that at UND - when it is obvious that Kelly and others internally at UND don't want North Dakota as the nickname. And we all know where those at Forum Communications stand - they are giving way too much credence to an "If" then "Perhaps" comment from the NCAA. -
Just thinking that Kelly must have received a few calls or at least calls from some pretty important UND boosters for him to go to the media and say he would consider putting North Dakota back on the ballot - that doesn't happen because of the threat of a gathering in a park. Then again it isn't back on the list yet so maybe he has no intention of adding it back - it was just to prevent thousands from showing up at a park gathering (sarcasm).
-
I don't see how you can make a connection between how many people show up at a last-minute rally in Grand Forks or give money to a bus fund with the number of people who prefer just "North Dakota" for a variety of reasons. There is no connection.

No concern - just tweeting for diamonds in the rough and looking for depth - you never know what's out there. Best wishes to the Hartness boys but the reality is they were walk-ons - nothing wrong with that but it's not like we had two scholarship athletes quit.

NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
CMSioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
The leadership has changed at SCSU - it was Roy H. Saigo that led that charge and even started a national committee against nicknames. Now that he is retired there is not a peek on campus. They are facing budget cuts and other issues that are much more important. In fact the finger has been pointed that perhaps Saigo should have paid more attention to on campus financial issues than nickname issues. -
Some new names here - so yet another comes here to defend "them. Still more proof they've moooved on.

Hmm so you've never heard a student say they are in pre-med, pre-law...I'm fine with moving on it's the fear mongering at all levels that is bothersome. -

What information? Is this the conversation around a potential recruit's couch. "UND - oh haven't you heard they're gonna be sanctioned by the NCAA because their nickname is North Dakota - never mind their aviation school, their medical school, their law school - do you really want to go to a school that uses the name of its state as its nickname?" -
http://www.grandforksherald.com/accent/3819401-und-named-top-university-native-american-students Someone help me - is this the definition of irony? Guess they didn't get the memo. "Hostile and abusive" must not have been a category they were ranking on. This stuff writes itself.

http://undhockey.areavoices.com/?p=100733 So it must just be all other sports that are being "hampered" by not having a nickname. -
I know this is like counting pre-season football games as wins but they aren't doing too bad for having a coach that can't coach and all the other baggage that's been shared. It proves nothing but it proves more than being 0-3.

You are allowed your opinion but these are far from "truths" and lack any credibility. #1 is just plain laughable, #2 well with the high cost of higher education I'm fine with not having the highest paid coaches on the block - high pay does not equate to high results, #3 "many of our fans and stakeholders" - nope not the real fans and stakeholders, #4 is just a perpetual argument that never ends and #5 .... well I wouldn't lose any sleep over it because "May have to" is a long way from happening. -

CMSioux replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/local/3818902-sioux-chants-could-mean-consequences-und Okay this is such as bluff it's hilarious - NCAA would sanction UND if another school complains that UND fans were cheering Fight Sioux? 1. Would the NCAA also sanction a rival school that cheered "Sioux Suck" or similar? 2. How could the NCAA prove it was UND fans doing the cheering? And saying they were wearing Sioux gear proves nothing see #1. 3. What school is going to take the time to do that and create hard feelings with another school over off-ice cheers? 4. Does it have to be a school or could anyone file a complaint - that opens a can of worms for verification? 5. What is the reality of the NCAA punishing a school for a person exercising their rights of free speech? I'm guessing the next Herald story will talk about how rumors are flying that members of the Big Sky are starting to share their concerns, and how UND could get kicked out of Big Sky. -
Expect this as a response "This survey is not an accurate representation of how the student body thinks. It is not random and those who prefer the name "North Dakota" would be more inclined to vote." The old sage says when you don't like the results of a survey question the methodology. Actually you could probably make the case that more than 70% of students don't care so why wouldn't you listen to the percentage that do.
