  1. Exceptions can always be made.
  2. So much for "what's best for the kid" - he wasn't even playing much, is a foreign exchange student who wants to be closer to his friend. Bush leaque.
  3. What gets lost as the years go by is the lack of financial support that Muss had for his assistant coaches. I'm not bashing those assistants just saying if you look back the money wasn't there and thus the experience wasn't there. That was one thing that Bubba negotiated into his package - much more money for salaries for his staff.
  4. A good win - sitting at my computer watching thinking the worst but we kept our poise down the stretch. Free throw shooting is much improved this year - helps to have a couple of very high percentage guys. You can see they are working on rebounding but it is still a huge weakness - still need continued aggressiveness in that area. For a drop-down 7 footer (which usually means no hands) Shanks shows some ability and will develop. Plenty of confident guys on this team - they just need to get it together and they could move up the standings.
  5. Danger Trolls in your rear mirror are larger than they appear.
  6. Good thing they played the game.
  7. Weren't we picked to finish 9th this season - not saying it's acceptable but also shouldn't be surprising. Repeat for those looking for a fight - "NOT SAYING IT IS ACCEPTABLE".
  8. Seems like they should allow students to be individual within reason - if they allow the eagle feather then they should also allow a Christian cross.
  9. Welcome to UND and the unofficial SIoux family. Tailgating is picking up before the events. Last year there really wasn't a specific spot for player parents to tailgate but if you walk around with your son's jersey on you will make friends quickly. Back when UND was very good it all started and ended with the OL and DL that is where we are headed again.
  10. I ran into him this summer at an event - I didn't know him but was wearing a Sioux shirt and he struck up a conversation. He was looking good and said he was fine.
  11. Thanks now that I understand your perspective I have to say I am on the other side of the sports universe. To me sports is pure entertainment. To me losing isn't fun and I want my team to win but a loss has no impact on my day too many other things are more important. Sports in general isn't even in my top 5 as far as what is really important to me. I will do us both a favor and ignore you (no offense).
  12. I would like to know your thoughts on my questions: Do you feel that sports is no longer entertainment? Do you grieve or stress over a UND loss for more than a few minutes? Is UND losing a game really important in your life?
  13. Really - now sports is no longer considered entertainment? I really hope any lingering unhappiness over the loss of a GAME lasts about 5 minutes. Otherwise there are deeper issues at work here. There are lots of things more important than winning or losing a GAME. I don't think anyone said they were happy about losing to UNC, it was a fun, yet frustrating game to watch - so now fans that are not willing to grumble and complain and ask for a coach to be fired after every loss are supposed to go to a movie? The shame is that we have come to this point in our society where so much negative energy is funneled into the results of a GAME.
  14. As you know I am a die-hard Sioux fan and not a coach head hunter - what we are watching is a 9th place Big Sky team which is exactly where they were predicted. I can't believe that there can be 3 UND players and one UNC player around a loose rebound and the UNC player comes up with it, I'm sure Dave Gunther would call the way this team rebounds and goes after loose balls unwatchable - the weak side is open so often and we've got a 7 footer setting screens at the 3 point line. Plus I have never seen them pass it to the guy on the screen and roll. I think we have some talent and I'm going to continue to support this team and cheer them on but they need to knuckle down and learn to play defense and box out. Go Sioux!
  15. Johnny Johnny Johnny - if you want to be accepted here and involved in actual conversations of value PLEASE stop feeling like you have to respond and deflect every comment that even vaguely reflects on FU. You can't have it both ways - one minute trying to be one of the guys and the next minute you are being "one of those guys." You just don't seem to be able to understand that on a UND fan site once in awhile there is going to be some good natured fun poked at FU and the easiest way is EIEIEIO. It doesn't mean we don't understand the agricultural economy, it doesn't mean we don't respect farmers - it just means sometimes it's fun to poke those to the south because of the rivalry. If you can't accept that then perhaps it is best for both sides for you to MOOOOOVE on (see the subtle reference). P.S. No it doesn't matter that this is a UND/NDSU thread - it's still a thread on a UND fan site and doesn't require constant monitoring by FU.
  16. http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/und-task-force-recommends-no-nickname-permanent-option/?utm_content=buffer2ebd2&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer Looks like it's just gonna be North Dakota unless the NCAA raises its ugly head. Edit: Oops - he got it wrong.
  17. I'm guessing money/scholarship isn't going to be a motivator (but he is visiting and why would you come to North Dakota in January if you weren't at least interested.).
  18. Hats on the ice after a hat trick are totally acceptable as part of hockey heritage. They did an article in the Herald a few years ago and I believe it said in most places you can go pick up your hat after the game (so let er fly).
  19. If you want to nit pick back when the school was started (around 1962) a Valiant was a car brand (I know that had nothing to do with them picking Valiant) ironic that I have connections to that school. Go Brave!
  20. The University of North Dakota Home of the Brave
  21. Technically it's an adjective that would be turned into a noun - groundbreaking
  22. Think Captain America or his shield as the logo (okay that might be lame). I think I better go grab www.undbrave.com .
  23. Okay I can almost guarantee this idea has been suggested because just about every name on the planet has been, and some not from this planet. But what about ...... The North Dakota Brave I am not talking about Braves with an S, just Brave as in "And the home of the Brave." This connects to the air force base, it connects to our immigrant heritage (as in braving the winter), it's possibly unique (I know someone will check), there is a subtle reference to the local Native American heritage but not directly and we would no longer get criticized for shouting our name at the end of the national anthem. Plus it lends itself to lots of logo possibilities. . Tear away....
  24. Everything I've read that has come out of the mouths of the ultimate decision makers leads me to believe that staying with no nickname is not an option that they are considering. Yes it was put on the survey because technically it is an option but they are doing everything they can to create a case that choosing to have no nickname has more down than up. As far as the marketing dollars it would generate that is all conjecture on their part - there is no way they can put a number on that. It's just part of greasing the skid to make it appear like having a new name is the only option. And the survey question that keeps getting thrown out that says a majority want a new name as soon as possible is misleading because of the way it was worded. Also it was asked without offering the option of just staying with North Dakota. I'm just saying - the decision makers have decided it won't be North Dakota.
  25. http://www.ecachockey.com/men/members/yale/20140803_White_House_Visit Couldn't find specific reference to Union last year but it took me 5 seconds to find that the 2013 winners Yale got their visit. I'm guessing if Yale was invited that Union got an invite the following year. The issue with FU not visiting the White House might be that they have too many players who show up on police reports
