  1. Transferred to Concordia-St. Paul. It's closer to home for her. She looked a little out of sorts all last year for UND. Probably stemmed from the coaching transition last year and the loss of many player friends from her first year. A little home sick, too, maybe. Concordia-St. Paul is a pretty solid VB team and a good school. Wish her the best!!!
  2. They are not only going after FCOA for men's and women's hockey. Fact is there has been no determination at UND which sport(s) will be impacted by FCOA. I was just answering your first question.
  3. Nobody from UND has said anything about any specific women's sport. Just that there would be 18 COA grants that would have to go to 18 female athletes (sports yet to be determined) to offset the 18 going to men's hockey.
  4. 18 is the number UND is looking to fund for men's hockey and an equivalent number on the women's side (yet to be determined which sports). Hockey is not a headcount sport.
  5. Brock Shaide out of Montana. Monte's kid.
  6. You're right. What were we thinking going with the "Fighting Sioux" for so many decades. Who knew? We should have dropped the nickname thing altogether when we had the chance after the Flickertails debacle. What boneheads we were. We were always North Dakota. Nuff said. We didn't need a nickname the whole time. You're genius! (Sarc) SMH.
  7. As far as I am concerned, the more UND decals, bumper stickers, flags, license plate covers, etc. across this state and region the better. This isn't some stolen valor-like thing, like posing as a Soldier or a Medal of Honor winner.
  8. Under the category of "What could have been". http://www.hustlebelt.com/mac-football/2015/4/13/8405447/2015-huskie-bowl-spring-football-game-defense-dominates-but-offense With three new starters, the Offensive line will get plenty of time this fall to get rolling and I fully expect the offense to be the team's strength. With Hare going into this season with a year of more experience and the anointed number one QB, the offense is loaded at the skill positions. Especially with the addition of University of North Dakota wide receiver Kenny Golladay. While you can't get too excited about a team's performance during an exhibition game, you can get a little excited about a player. Not necessarily an individuals success, but how he looks. Kenny Golladay passes the eye test. At 6'4" he easily stands out physically. But he moves very fluidly and just looks every bit the part of a number one wide receiver: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1K9xu4vlUEZYExjjjlcf5ad2-9TfTuOLXOA/view
  9. The short routes that they were running when I was there didn't allow him to display any real top-end speed. They were mostly running 3rd and 7 stuff over the middle just beyond the sticks, except for the one that went long to Fiedler. Jury is still out for me on how fast he is relative to, say, Hardin.
  10. Here are my quick hitters from Wednesday practice: Lots of sun and lots of wind... temps in the low 60s. Offense: 1. Bartels looked sharp on his reads and was quicker in the pocket while Studsrud took more time. A glass-half full guy would say #7 is just more patient, presumably because he knows he's got the wheels to bail him out if needed. 2. Clive Georges has good hands to go along with his speed. I have yet to see him drop a pass in his vicinity. The only thing, however, a stiff wind would blow him over -- thin as a rail, even in pads. 3. Cerrentino, Walker and Stanley look more confident out there. I was also impressed with the toughness and work habits of Mav Edmunds; he'll continue to be a quality utility guy wherever he's put. Bridges, Seibel and Reed round out the WRs, but Seibel and Reed have been without pads for the most part and take part in very limited action. I don't think there is anything seriously wrong with Seibel. Just my gut. 3. This just in: UND's running back corps is big. I think I saw Tom Miller blog that it might be one of the biggest in the BSC, and I think he's right. Arrington looks the part, so far, and we all know about Norberg and Sharp. New guy Blass is another one that goes against the grain of UND's lightweight running backs of year's past. Nevermann is supposed to be #30 according to the prospectus but I think he's wearing #5 -- if that's him. He looks big on the field but also possesses some crispness to his running style versus a pound it forward and take what you can mentality. If that's not him... I apologize. 4. Luke Fiedler had a nice down field catch in traffic. He used all of his 6-5 frame to go up and pull one down in traffic, reminiscent of Ruhe's catch last year against Robert Morris that went for 30 yards. Fiedler's was of the longer variety. 5. Offensive line only had one bad snap, but it was pathetic, and it would have cost us mega yards. 6. Not a very good judge of line play so I will defer even though I know many on here really focus on that -- and rightly so. Defense: 1. Suffice it to say that all of these gentlemen were solid: Ratelle, Idowu, Rich, Labat. Outside of those men: Bakker and O'Brien were very noticeable as far as the linebackers are concerned. 2. I can't say enough how impressed I am with the look of the tandem of Jawon Johnson (33) and Cole Reyes (8) in the UND secondary. They bring a gritty and imposing presence to the field. They are big and rangy and they bring it every time. Johnson is still absorbing the system and misjudges some reads, but he looks good so far. Blackmon made his presence felt, too, on Wednesday. 3. Deion Harris continues to look good at the corner. 4. It's hard to judge DL play early in spring practices because they can't play to their full ability -- but they all got off the ball quick, with OK surge into the opposing backfield, and they had good moves to get around the edges and pursuit to the QB. I will say this -- we do have some very quick DEs who are deceptively strong. Misc. Several former players came out to watch practice Wednesday, including Tyree Ivery, Jer Garmin and interestingly, Josiah Montague, who was good enough to get his shirt pulled last year but did not return for his soph. year. He mainly stayed in the bleachers away from the action on the field. Misgivings? I don't know.
  11. Thanks very much bison73 for your information; it is truly welcomed.
  12. If Archie can convince the NCAA to turn the ship around, I might be tempted to get behind it again .... but me thinks we are long past the point of no return on this one.
  13. I'm just busting your guys's chops a bit. I wanted to see how long we could persist in this inane debate that no one really has any way of proving beyond opinion. On a related note, I don't know how this turned into a "best athletes in the world" debate. Oh yeah, I do know. Johnboy had some downtime again at Chuck E. Cheese and decided to offer up some pearls of wisdom that had nothing to do with the original premise. LOL! What really got this revved up was some asinine comment a ways back that basically put D-1 hockey players on par with a men's beer league.
  14. Wrong. In most cases better athletes all around -- balance, strength, hand-eye coordination, etc.
  15. Exactly... great athletes all around. Period.
  16. I voted for this comment only because it gave me the biggest laugh of the day, so far. I could only imagine that our hockey athletes who are usually healthy scratches and watch the games from the press box would relish the chance to play you and your fellow "athletes" in a pick-up game of hockey. I wonder who'd be having a good laugh that day? Hockey takes great skill and talent to play well even at the pee wee level. You don't just pick up a stick, lace up and play D-1.
  17. I saw only saw him in the intra- squad game before the start of the season. He was easily the more confident floor general that day, and that as a true freshmen. Apart from his decision making and leadership on the court, he played very well, too, against the more experienced players.
  18. This ^^^^^. These are things that I think are valid concerns. But some, not all, some of the made-up BS regarding his handling or not handling of the nickname and logo issue are pure urban legend that gets propagated by irresponsible individuals out there who don't have to own up to what they incite.
  19. I have never heard of this happening.
  20. ^^^^^^^^ This. Well written.
  21. No. I thought it was an awesome gesture for the last group of seniors who got to wear the best name and logo in college sports.
  22. Probably Jody Hodgeson. I never saw the signs. I was at home watching the game on TV with my family. Waddn't me, man.
  23. Nope. I'm a huge Sioux fan, always have been. Since I can remember. Have no idea what you are talking about.
