Sorry to say there is nothing that is going to prevent what is happening, the money is just not there. Unless you want to become a Gonzaga and drop both Hockey and Football and go all in on MBB, which I don't think anyone wants. Every year we are going to lose 5-6 players and need to bring in guys looking to get playing time at the Mid major level, knowing they will probably leave if successful. As we saw this year we can compete for a Summit league title doing this, just need to find the right guys. It is the new reality. Need to embrace the philosophy of convincing kids to prove themselves for a year or two to get a payday. Don't see a realistic solution at the low and mid-major levels otherwise. 1 Quote
UND92,96 Posted yesterday at 02:39 PM Posted yesterday at 02:39 PM We can't do much to prevent the early loss of players, but at least if they leave on good terms and it doesn't work out, the door is open for an eventual return. It's not out of the question that could happen with Uelmen. I don't think Ihenacho is going to be the last player to make a return after leaving early in his career. 1 Quote

Yep, this is actually a huge recruiting advantage for Sather if he will embrace it. Show kids the track record of helping them perform well and then go get paid. There’s nothing wrong with that and isn’t this doom and gloom situation a lot of people are trying to make it out to be. 3 Quote

Good point, exactly what Jaden Moore is probably thinking. I would think he is the presumptive starting PG for the upcoming year??? But I assume they bring in another PG as well. Quote
southpaw Posted yesterday at 03:00 PM Posted yesterday at 03:00 PM These adults have all fulfilled their one-year commitment to the team, yes? Then they're free to search for opportunities elsewhere based on private discussions between them and their boss. Some choose to take on another one-year commitment with the university. Others choose to pursue that one year commitment at another university where they have the opportunity to earn more money - sometimes even life-changing money. Quote

He's in the portal, and he and Sather are following each other on twitter. Has put up good numbers in the NSIC for two years. 1 Quote

And considering all the money they are spending to move FB up to the FBS G6 Mountain West Conference, they won't have a lot of spare change lying around for things like NIL. So they must be doing something right. Am I wrong? Quote

EternalOptimist Posted yesterday at 03:18 PM Posted yesterday at 03:18 PM What is different about St Thomas? They don't have anyone listed in the portal on verbal commits. Is it the NIL $ or player/coach relationship, or a combination? Quote

The Sicatoka Posted yesterday at 03:39 PM Posted yesterday at 03:39 PM I know this is blasphemy, but with all the transferring are these young adults actually getting an EDUCATION, or just a series of classroom experiences around the nation. 2 Quote

Does it really matter? They’re learning how life actually works either way. I’d say that’s better than 90% of the things you read in a textbook Quote

UND92,96 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago So is defense just not worth any money in the portal, or was King's experience in his one year at Iowa State just so negative that he wanted no part of it again? It's hard to believe we had him for three years. 1 Quote

Make hundreds of thousands in NIL, will very likely to get their degree regardless of how many schools they transfer too. And you can still go to school after you’re done with athletics 1 Quote

But if we lose our entire team every year, that's not acceptable. The $1M offers are not available to everyone that enters the portal. We have to build a program where you lose a few high-end players to big NIL deals, but return enough of a nucleus so you aren't starting over from scratch every year. 2 Quote
UND-SPORTS-FAN Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I think Tim McMuffin said it best about Guga.. Sure we are losing team builders like Greyson but we are also clearing space for mins for potentially better players to come in to replace Guga, Erickson, etc. This team will be completely different and I just hope they have someone that can come close to replacing the hole King leaves on the court. With that said anyone have eyes on a player in P6 that wants playing time like King did? Quote
