Finally an outside the box idea!

Kind of like the relationship between MLB clubs and their minor league affiliates.

This sounds like it would benefit both programs.

they csn still graduate transfer after but need to stick it out till graduation 

Some companies do that to hang onto certain execs for a defined period of time. Leave early, no account. It's a golden parachute account.

A JUCO? 

We are an FCS program trying to navigate the landmine filled world of NIL and the Transfer Portal.

This would NOT make us a "JUCO".

And, for the record, I would rather drop the sport than EVER go non-scholarship, but that's another topic I hope we never have to discuss.

We wouldn't be a JUCO, we'd just be a team where kids explicitly go to play for 2 years before moving onto a bigger school.

I don't know if it would benefit us or not, but it's an intriguing idea.

UND's stuck in the mud "we've always done it this way" attitude and way of thinking is one of the reasons why our Division I years have not been particularly successful.

I agree it's an interesting idea, just not one I'd like to see implemented.

Based on this 80% (perhaps more) of division 1 schools sponsoring football are JUCOs….

Yeah, it’s not the same. Still the option to play 5 years at these “JUCOs” whereas actual JUCOs can’t offer that, but I see your point. I think it’s a bit dramatic.

I'm sure it will take a bit to get the "who's in".

I hate the portal.  I'd like to see a limitation on the number of times that you can enter and go to a different university, but I'm sure countless lawsuits would follow from guys that are on university #2 looking for the next great opportunity on university #3.

College football needs a commissioner.  Maybe needs to break away from the NCAA entirely with how big it truly has gotten.

I agree.  I also think there will be NLI fatigue after a while.  If the boosters pony up at all the schools the end result (W-L's) will be essentially the same for the programs, but with millions of dollars transferring from the boosters to the players.  Will folks want to be indefinitely writing mid-to-high 5 figure or 6/7 figure checks, year after year with no return on investment?  

For extremely wealthy folks I suppose it isn't an issue, but for the typical small business owner it's a different story.

Insightful take!!  Other schools pay SS and Fleming, we pay for a RB and WR, whatever school we "take" those kids from pay other players, etc.  An active paying portal is good for the players in the category of Immediate Financial Gain.  Feed the ego......secondary.  All other impacts on life/team/relationships/personal growth.....tertiary.   I'm positive NFL teams want guys with 3-4 Colleges under their belt because it screams love of game, loyalty and commitment.  Next stop on the run-a-way train, NFL contracts, mark my words.
