All the players that liked to do that went to BU and Michigan.  :D

In all seriousnous…omac and Boisvert appear to have had a good night. Still salty Boisvert left, I liked his game.

How many odd man rushes did Manitoba have? The defense is as advertised.

They didn’t have a ton of push…but the D core will be solid this year.

Overall solid warmup, good third period. I thought a lot of the guys looked solid…Liv, Wiebe (obviously), Swanson looked good, Reschny was quiet but had that one nice play, Kernan, zakreski, etc. Other guys I expected to notice were either absent or super selfish.

Super selfish?  Sometimes if you are a shooter, shoot the puck.  How many games last year did we try to make the extra play, instead of the simple play?  Guys like Ryan Duncan and Bochenski shot from everywhere on the ice, but that’s where they thrived.

Won 7-0 and didn’t look particularly crisp, leaves me optimistic to what could be with this team. Manitoba looked better than previous years as well. Our defense is just too good for them

More than half the team is different from last year. Once they get used to playing each other, they'll be crisper.

Now watching game between Penn State and ASU.  Lot of penalties because of aggressive players on Penn State. Not impressed with their play.

It’s been quiet most of the game with penalties most have been in the third

I’m aware, was more a comment on how they dominated without having much cohesiveness. Once they figure out lines, look out

Believe me I get it. But there has to be a point where you make plays too…especially on the PP. Watch 7…he knows what he’s doing.

Getting worked up about someone’s first exhibition game is futile.  If a sampling of plays in an exhibition game is super relevant, Jaden Perron would be in the NHL now.

Someone explain to me how EJ is a top 6 Dman in this squad??

Someone explain to me how you know he isn’t.  Big jumps can be taken over a summer of work at that age, and frankly, none of the new guys have proven in game situations how they will perform.  Sounds like you are setting yourself up to go on your rants on who should be in the lineup because you have the pulse of the team. Maybe a more aggressive approach from the defense instead of sitting back as pylons will better suit his game.

Lots more talent on the back end with this squad compared to last year.

<end of rant>

Schloss article on the exhibition win and Swanson:

https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/mac-swanson-shows-signs-of-an-imminent-breakout-in-unds-exhibition-win

Quote

"I thought our physicality and competitive levels were real high," Jackson said. "I thought we had a good mentality of 'check to score, earn the right to play on offense,' which I think will be a strength of our team. We have a lot of depth, we've got a lot of good guys with pace of play and strong sticks. If we can continue to tilt the ice with real hard checking and work ethic, hopefully that allows our offensive side to come out."

Swanson also scored at even strength in the first period and tallied an even-strength assist in the third.

"In training camp, I'd say he was probably our best player up front," Jackson said. "He just seems to have taken a step, picking up a little bit of quickness, a little bit of hardness on the puck. His stick is strong. He's shooting the puck harder and has more of a mindset there versus just being a passer."

Swanson, the 2024 United States Hockey League Player of the Year, had two goals and 16 assists as a college freshman.

"I think we all knew he was a great player," Jackson said. "He had a little bit of a transition (last year). Played better and better as the season went on. He's just had a great summer of work and it seems like his work and mindset has gone back to that elite-level player we were recruiting."
