beastandco Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Reading that Penn State will have to push back a recruit for McKenna. Layne Loomer is the guy that will get sent back to juniors supposedly. If they also add Martone, they will have to push another back. This is something to watch out for. 1 Quote

Both talk a lot of $hit when neither program has really done anything so far. Gonna hang that McKenna banner and retire his jersey number after he signs NHL contract. 1 Quote

Yes, my mistake! Would be a depth add if we miss out on some top guys. With how stacked this lineup already is, I imagine you can only take 1 high level guy and 1 more depth player. He would fit the latter mold 1 Quote

He would fit the latter mold I think he has two years of junior eligibility and we probably would just take on a player already committed to UND at that point. He definitely wouldn’t commit for next years team, imo. 1 1 Quote

burd Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Sources tell me PSU has secretly developed both an altitude chamber and an East Coast Airs chamber. That gets them by BU, BC, and DU. Michigan hasn't been a major factor since these recruits' grandparents' time. UMinn? PSU doesn't even need a Motzko chamber. Quote
beastandco Posted July 7 Posted July 7 It sounds like McKenna will officially commit tomorrow. I wonder if the floodgates will open a little bit now that he is off of the board. I would guess all parties involved want to figure out where players are playing next year as soon as possible. Hopefully Bryn has something up his sleeve Quote
brianvf Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Pegula blew his NIL load bringing in McKenna...nothing left for Martone. You know Bryn is working Martone hard if Schloss mentioned it. Hopefully they can close the deal with him instead of Michigan. That'd be an elite winger to add to that top line. 2 Quote
AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Only twice in the past decade has a non-NCHC team won it all. In that same time NCHC and Big Ten are tied with 2 runners up. Bryn is undoubtedly planting that fact, hopefully it resonates. Quote

Schloss knew exactly what he was doing by firing off that tweet. He doesn’t name drop unless there is some truth to it. From what I have seen, Penn State was full before McKenna and will have to make room. Martone would make two spots that would have to be opened up. Obviously you do that for a player like that. Regarding Michigan, they made a few moves last week that may have filled most of their roster up. They also have some high end recruits that I would be hard to push to the bottom 6. 1 Quote
brianvf Posted July 8 Posted July 8 https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2025/07/07_Reports-Top-Blue-Chipper.php Quote McKenna is rumored to have been offered anywhere from $250,000 to $750,000 to play at Penn State, though the exact figure is not yet known. That's a good chunk of change right there. I'm hopeful that PSU flounders next season and that money will have been spent in vain. Quote

I would think Michigan, North Dakota, Michigan State, & potentially others like Denver would be all over Porter Martone. Very interested to see how Michigan State pivots after falling just short in the Gavin McKenna recruiting battle; they're still the national championship favorite IMHO. Quote

Yes, MSU, BU, and PSU all look very strong on paper. If Howard from MSU ends up finally signing after they fell short on McKenna, that'd be a double blow. 1 Quote

Since the draft has already occurred, it is definitely less likely that his rights are dealt and he signs. If Penn State is really out on Martone, it will be a battle of the blue bloods to get him. I expect him to go to a team with a high quality center. Michigan, North Dakota, Boston College, and Michigan State make a lot of sense. He is the exact player UND needs to fill their roster. 1 Quote
