From Winnipeg, so can connect with Manitobans. Coaches in British Columbia for Victoria, so should be able to connect with BC and other western Canadian kids, is an alum so has ties to UND, and has had a long and successful career in the NHL. He checks a lot of boxes, but I can't say know much about his coaching ability, other than he's spent a lot of time as an NHL assistant and has some decent tenure as a WHL coach now. 1 Quote

Should we hire from within the "family" again? I get that we have a lot of alum that have gone on to have good success but maybe it's time to look outside the "family". 1 Quote

Everyone was so enamored by Hastings, but he hasn't exactly been ripping it up at Wisconsin, even getting some nice recruits. I certainly like Raboin at Augustana, but there is no guarantee that when you get more talent to work with that you are automatically going to succeed. There were many that thought the grass was greener on the other side of Dave Hakstol, now they seem to have brain fog and forget how brutal they were about him during his regime. 1 Quote

What criteria are the siouxsports search committee using to find the right candidate? Quote
90siouxfan Posted November 14 Posted November 14 I wonder if Toews has any interest in coaching? Quote
90siouxfan Posted November 14 Posted November 14 I don't recall ever griping about Hakstol, not sure if a swap for Berry would be best case scenario, but I wouldn't mind it. But they are both old.... Quote

James is probably too old to hire anyways, but he's been away from UND for so long that I don't know that he's really more of the same genes as what we've had. Blais worked for Gasparini, Hak worked for Blais, Berry worked for Hak. But, James has not really been connected to the university like the others and I think his coaching experience in major juniors while having college experience could be a good combination. He was a former WHL coach of the year fairly recently as well IIRC. Quote

The only guy Brad beat in the NCAA tourney since then is now going to be a Division 2 team. Pitiful for a program like ours. 1 Quote

Here'd be my criteria: 1) Sweats minimally 2) Is kinda nice, but not too nice 3) Doesn't try to circumvent the university when creating new logos or wordmarks that have the possibility of being profited from privately 4) Can win NCAA tournament games with his own recruits, not someone else's 5) Knows how to recruit a goalie that isn't a one year rental from the transfer portal There's probably more, but that's a good start. The Sicatoka Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Prospective recruits but behiind the bench? Simmer is just the leading edge of what's developing ... St Clair, Chyzyk*, Keane, Smaby ... *OK, front office Quote
