tho0505
http://www.kfyrtv.com/News_video.asp?news=38678 Interesting stuff from Bismarck. The guess the Supreme Court is going to issue a ruling later.
bincitysioux
CBS said that in their broadcast of the UNI game, people have been getting that wrong all over the web ever since. I think NDSU will make it back in the next seven years, all you have to do is win three games, which is why getting into a conference is so important. That said, I do think UND will be fine in taking this to the deadline, but it will be vital to end it one way or the other at that time. AGREED. ihatethegophers
Exactly, I won't lie and say I would be happy if they voted and decided to get rid of the name. It is not the ones who want the sports teams in a conference that bug me, I actually agree with them that we need to find a conference. It is the ones who come in and tell me that I am racist and view the Sioux in a degrading way just because I support the nickname. Yeah but you know exactly what's going to happen. The SBoHE is going to retire the nickname in April or May so that UND can officially apply to the Summit by the June deadline. Then sometime later this year the SR will finally get off their slow bums and have a vote where 50-60% will approve of the nickname. The whole ordeal is such a joke. Put it out of its misery! Blackburn87
Imagine how insulting it would be to the tribes to get a vote together only to have the SBoHE yank the decision out from under them. I would like to think that wouldn't happen (talk about politically incorrect!) but nothing in this debate would surprise me. However, I'm optimistic a vote on Standing Ropck will happen and the SBoHE will hold off on any action until then.

I agree with you but to play devil's advocate the tribes have had plenty of time to get something done. Ron Thunder has been out of office for awhile now and they are only getting approval now. If its not of top priority for the tribes than I really don't understand any arguement they would have if the name would be changed before they finally got around to voting. It would be just like everything else in the world and the finger would be pointed elsewhere, at the SBoHE.

gjw007
Your numbers are wrong - 12,000 for the Gopher game - double that for 2 years in a roll. You can play with numbers all you want - hockey is still a regional sport with only 50 some teams of which 40 are usually very bad and under funded. While there are 58 or 59 NCAA Division 1 schools, your knowledge of hockey teams is somewhat limited as there is also college club hockey team. Here are some teams listed at the http://www.achahockey.org/page.php?page_id=7150 website (American Collegiate Hockey Association). While not NCAA Division 1, it is still college hockey and it is widely distributed across the U.S. Not too bad for a 'regional' sport with club hockey teams @ UCLA, Arizona State, Alabama, Arkansas. UCLA, Stanford, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgetown, Delaware, U of Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa State, Penn State, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, NDSU, Idaho, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, Montana, Nevada-Las Vegas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, Syracuse University, Pennslyannia, Pittsburg, Clemson, Texas, West Virginia.... As NDSU plays club hockey, it should be aware that there are a lot more universities around the country that play hockey than is at the Division One level. A concern for many years for Division 1 is if a Big Ten school, such as Penn State ever decided to upgrade to Division One, then the Big Ten Hockey Conference would start via the Big Ten Conference rules.
