I don't want this to read as everything is perfect at NDSU / Fargo or the wheels are coming off at UND / Grand Forks. That isn't the case. What I will say is unless UND / Grand Forks changes course (unlikely), I know which University I would bet on in the next decade. It's the one that is loud, aggressive, thinks big. Too many parallels between the cities and the Universities. NDSU raising 25 million and counting, probably raise a few more on July 1st. Turn into millions more from the state. Jokes on them though I guess reading these comments? Think they'd be better off not raising millions and instead cutting sports.

Think small be small, it's the only way GF / UND knows.

Note: As you can tell, there's a lot of frustration with a few things. UND's lack of response to Funding model / FBS move. It's been this way for decades, two most recent examples. NDSU leads / dictates, every time. I'm pushing my chips in the middle betting that this FBS move will be a huge success. Not only for fundraising for athletics, but it will turn this around on the enrollment side.

Harsh but I agree completely with your position.

That's one way to look at it.  The Montana's didn't go to the MWC - are they small-thinkers?  Davis didn't.  Poly didn't.

Then why is the Fargo media pimp'n FBS for State funding?

The first point I'll make about this is the Fargo Forum isn't tied to NDSU.  They cover them, yes, they aren't employed by them.  The second point I'll make is that was McFeely.  Even Bison fans think he's a moron.  He 100% wrote that article to generate clicks and it worked for him to a T.  He went big fish searching that day and he got his limit with UND and SDSU fans - who'm he even made a jab at in the first paragraph of that article.

Nobody is asking for the State's help.

and running a huge 701 day to raise funding (because they had to give their same coach 600k more now due to a label)

Had to pony up or he was a goner.  I suspect UND will have to do the same for Schmidt or his tenure won't be long at UND...and generally, that's a good thing.

Where was he gonna go and why would that matter?  Hire a new guy - every coach wins there.

If you haven't noticed the absurd uptake in articles they are putting out about stupid things like kickoff times or tv slots then that's on you.  The Forum is writing 2 articles a week.  This is knob globbing X10.

I’m looking at this through a lens of overall University health (both athletics & academics) and to me what it indicates moving forward. The schools you mentioned aren’t in direct competition with UND in every aspect. NDSU seems to be the school that realizes they are in a competition and they want to win. Going back to changing the funding model which is going to hurt UND.

We know what NDSU wants to be, which if successful will hurt UND. If the past repeats itself, there will be no pushback from UND.
