Listening to Spittin Chicklets this morning and they had the assistant coach Bob Stauffer of the Oilers on. He’s been following Verhoeff since he was 13.  Anyhoo he said he’s the best D man he’s seen out of western Canada in 25 years and guarantees he will be in the NHL next season. Obviously we all hope he’s wrong but man he was pumping his tires

I just listened to this as well. For those who haven’t, he essentially said that the more time team spend watching or interviewing Verhoeff, the more they will fall in love with him. He said he’s going to absolutely crush his interviews because of his maturity.

Unless he goes first in the draft, I think he comes back next year and signs when the season is over. From interviews he has done, it doesn’t seem like he is in a rush to get to the next level. It all comes down to the team that selects him.

The kid is really good…but I like how the Hughes brothers (well at least Quinn and Luke) did it. Makar and Fox too. Play two full years of college puck before jumping. As good as he is for a 17 year old, I’d wait until he is dominating before leaving. It won’t be all that long of a wait.

Stauffer isn't an assistant coach. He's the Oilers Radio Color Commentator.

I think in general most teams won’t want to rush him and will want him to fine tune his skating. 
 

Bottom 4 are Buffalo, Nashville, St. Louis, and Calgary right now. Could see that realistically being the worst 4. I’d wager that each of those teams will want him to go back for 1 more year vs him leaving after his freshman year
