nascar99 Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Still super stoked about a potential power play with Swanson and Reschny. Not to mention Livanavage up top. 2 1 Quote

A Zellers-Swanson-Reschny-Livanavage-James/Strinden unit could be deadly. Could go with a 3F/2D look with Verhoeff out there as well. We'll see where Menghini and Rickwood project and if they can crack PP1 or PP2. 1 Quote

I could see Rickwood being net front on the first unit because of his size unless we pick up a forward with size. For what I have seen and read about Verhoeff, he has a heavy shot. It wouldn’t surprise me to see two defenseman on the first unit. 2 Quote

burd Posted June 20 Posted June 20 What's the over/under on the number of shorties James gets this year? Make that shorty breakaways, whether he scores or not. 1 Quote

brianvf Posted Wednesday at 05:53 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:53 PM Coach responsibilities for next season: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/schlossman-unds-coaching-staff-hashes-out-duties Quote Assistant coach Dillon Simpson will handle the power play and will be the primary coach of the team's defensemen. Associate head coach Matt Smaby will handle the team's penalty kill and will help with the development of the defensemen. Smaby will take the penalty kill responsibilities from Jackson, who has held them since he was hired as an assistant in 2006. Jackson will coach UND's forwards. Jackson and Smaby will both handle 5-on-5 play, systems, opponent prescout and the general foundation of how the team plays. General manager Bryn Chyzyk is expected to spend significant time on the road scouting and recruiting. If he's in attendance at a game, it's unlikely he will be on the bench. Also said JPL getting close to being finalized: Quote The staff's final piece will be hiring a director of player personnel and office operations. The Fighting Hawks are working toward hiring Grand Forks native and former Hobey Baker Award finalist Jean-Philippe Lamoureux for that spot, according to multiple sources. As a non-coaching staff member, Lamoureux will be limited in what he can do. He cannot recruit off campus or directly coach the goalies. But he can be on the ice for practices, chart statistics, analyze video of opponents, participate in coaching staff meetings and develop game plans. In other words, he can tell the full-time staff what to relay to the goalies. 2 2 Quote

Popular Post brianvf Posted yesterday at 07:52 PM Popular Post Posted yesterday at 07:52 PM Reschny officially signed this week, so Dane can finally comment on him: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/why-cole-reschny-is-on-track-to-become-unds-latest-first-round-nhl-draft-pick He interviewed with 27 teams and all of them asked about him leaving CHL to go NCAA. Quote "We're excited for a lot of reasons," UND head coach Dane Jackson said. "He's such a sharp young man with a ton of presence, a great team guy, an elite talent. One of the things we've talked about is trying to get guys that match our identity. We think he's a real tenacious, two-way, really strong hockey player overall. It's kind of how we want to build our team — guys who want to compete hard, are good teammates and have really good ability. We want guys who have all that character and substance to their games as well. "When you get a good player, it's a home run. But when you get a really good player and person and teammate, that's a grand slam. We're really excited about adding Cole to our group for the player and person he is." Also some analytics from this past season: Quote He finished ninth in the league with 92 points in 62 games. During the playoffs, he tallied 25 points in 11 games, finishing second in points per game (2.27). Only Gavin McKenna, who is expected to go No. 1 overall in the 2026 NHL Draft, had more (2.38). Reschny was third in offense-generating plays (928), behind McKenna (1,000) and last summer's No. 8 overall pick Berkly Catton (981). Reschny was fourth in pass completion percentage among WHL forwards (78.1%). Reschny also won 57.2% of his faceoffs, including 62.9% in the offensive zone. 2 4 Quote
brianvf Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago JPL now confirmed! I feel like Jax has been making all the right decisions since getting hired. Hopefully it translates on the ice. 4 Quote
Wilbur Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I really hope Dane is steadfast in the whole "identity of our team" talk he's been throwing out to Schlossman time and again. I let my guard down when Berry would constantly bring up our #culture, and the drive to play a #fullsixty, and at the end of the day I don't think I can handle that happening again. We can't let #identity become a thing for us keyboard warriors....thankfully #ferdaoxbow didn't.... Having intense individuals added to the staff like Smaby and JPL help. 2 Quote
