I don’t know. Listen I’m pissed off too. Everything will be okay though. Carle will be gone when Denver gets bounced by Western and Bump will sign after they beat BU in the natty. Everything will be okay. James and Liver are going to be solid. We will add more pieces from the portal. We will be back.

I have no doubt we will be back. I just hope it doesn’t take us more than a couple years. Our fans and alumni and former players will never let this program slip into irrelevance.

But we did?

another one of my great ideas.

und shuns all portal players...if we didn't want you or you didn't want us coming out of high school or the juniors we don't want you now either.

AND we don't pay a dime to no damn body...you should be paying us to play here.

no portalers and no pay......you come to here bc we ARE the North Dakota Fighting Sioux.

Quickest way to irrelevance.  College athletics are changing and you have to change with the times.  Maybe get away for a while without NIL but have to use the portal.

Then why commit to UND in the first place?

Could be plenty of reasons, UND offered early, rink and facilities, he hoped he was ready after one year of college, didn’t know who would draft him and what they want matters now that they are his future employer. His family thought watching games on streaming should be sufficient and they want to go in person. Or any other reasons

The defenseman will be older next year which is very significant

Zakreski (Portland Winterhawks, WHL) is a decent start, middle tier guy who can score. Everyone is saying the CHLers are waiting for the major junior season to end, potentially take official visits, the draft eligibles will see who draft them, and then make decisions at some point during the summer.

I am confident that North Dakota will be adding more CHLers in the near future. The bigger name programs (North Dakota, Michigan, Michigan State, Boston University, Boston College, Denver) are all saving a couple spots open in hopes of getting a big name kid from the CHL who would come in next year.

Until then, we wait and see what Jackson does in the portal

no way around the NIL....we have no chance to match Sasha's 150k....no way no how....no matter how many free cheesy pickles we offer

and so far what has the portal really given us?

what has the portal given Denver...I think most of the high enders at Denver were their (Tavis and Big Boy) recrutis...maybe  2 or 3 transfers?

January in Grand Forks is the longest 4 weeks of the year.

Denver got Broz a couple years ago, Pohlkamp & Salminen this past year.

Denver really takes advantage of guys who were committed elsewhere who end up decommitting, which results in the Pioneers getting them last minute.

Right, the "we should take the (moral) high ground" argument & not play 'their' game. Always a good excuse when we get beat for not getting off our collective a$$ and beat 'them' at their own game. You've heard this line before, I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere NoDak, but it's true for me. I was always taught to never give up. I was told if they change the rules, learn their rules & beat them at their own game. I paid my own way through UND with all kinds of ugly jobs. But, if today some of my donations to UND goes to an NIL, to get a kid to come to play a sport, or build the latest drone technology at our school - I'm all in!! And as long as they don't cheat, or break a law, I'm in if they win or not. UND gave me a great start on life, and even if these kids stay for 2 or 4 years, they will forever be a part of the same UND I am proud to represent.

If this is going to be about what's "fair" or you only play for the Sioux Hockey team if you "play for pride & tradition" - we are beat before we take the ice. Might as well demand all the players use straight blade sticks too, because some of these kids shoot the lights out with these new twigs. We have to go to war on the field in front of us, not the one up on that shiny hill of 'moral high ground' that doesn't exist. Rant done. I apologize in advance for the sarcasm, but not really.

The question is (and I don't know) can UND compete with BIG 10 and eastern schools that have huge endowments at their disposal, not to mention location more favorable to lifestyle...i guess we'll find out.

JP Parise told Zach that UND was the best place to fast track to the NHL, that also was part of the allure of coming here for recruits as well. That's also in question now.

A big part of Sascha leaving was getting closer to his family. The money also helped but getting closer for his parents to drive to games was probably the main reason.

Didn't you post in one of these other threads there was "no way" Sasha was leaving? Now you know with 100% certainty he wanted to leave, and it was money & to get closer to his family? You would be a good weather broadcaster.

I said Sascha was leaving in February and that he was going BU. My source said he had a change of heart when Berry was fired. Guess he was wrong.
