They are well coached and will overplay the perimeter with help on Trey. Need to get Eli, Meier, and Mara going early to the hole and using our length and athleticism tonight to open some room for Trey. We have length mismatches. Plus we need to do a better job switching on perimeter and talking on picks. They move well and look for the open man. We play smart there is no reason we can’t win this thing… Exactly what I thought needed to post up some of their smaller guys n drive but instead we bomb away 3s without making defense work and keep doing screen on ball with Amar n they just double Treysen. Obviously that wasn't working n just kept doing it over n over. So disappointing. But that's why St Thomas wins with the players they have cuz they play smarter than most. When they started moving ball and driving we couldn't stop em. 1 Quote

Arms crossed it will all work out until it doesn't. Same thing he did last night only difference treyson went off. No thanks to sather Actually, he put the ball in Treyson’s hands in the beginning of the game by having him bring the ball up the court. That didn’t work cuz he didn’t get open off the initial screen. St. Thomas helped on the switch with both defenders initially focusing on Treyson. I thought we lost the game when we couldn’t hit open 3’s in the first half in addition to turning the ball over. After Treyson quit bringing the ball up, we missed him 3-4 times when he was open cutting to the basket. It seemed that if his first cut/move didn’t get him the ball or an open shot he drifted to the other side of the court and waited for something to happen. It seemed to me that they focused on stopping Treyson, took their chances on anyone else on the team shooting 3’s, and tried to clog up the middle/cover the pass to a cutter (which we also missed too many times). The guys hustled and worked hard on defense but we didn’t capitalize cuz of turnovers. We should have been up by 15-20pts when we were only up by 9. We let them back in toward the end of the first half and tied at halftime, I thought we were in deep crap. Just my observations and I defer to the experts beyond that. Quote

Thats your philosophy on coaching ? He put it in Treysons hands and said go? I agree we lost when we were up, st Thomas was missing shots. Our defense was on lock down and then we fell in love with the 3 from players who shouldn't be shooting them. That's when a coach should have stepped in. He has no leadership over that team. I guess treyson loves him but only because there is no structure and they can do what they want. 1 Quote
NewUndFan Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago North Carolina State just fired their coach after making the final four last year. We give our coach an extension when he can win a first round game in the summit league tournament every 5 years. Blows my mind. If this was the hockey team this wouldn't happen 2 Quote

UND-FB-FAN Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago UND men’s basketball is in a tough situation. Facilities and dollars for staff (and players now with NIL) just aren’t there for this to be an attractive job. With that said, you still need to look at whether or not you can improve coaching to better compensate for the deficiencies, some of which you can’t control (e.g., location). I think it is time to part ways with Sather, especially since UND will likely be parting ways (unintentionally) with Eaglestaff also. Time to see what a new coach can do for UND MBB. Now, will UND leadership actually do their job and make the move? Probably not - I have little faith, despite how well the transition to Coach Schmidt for football has gone thus far. Quote

I wasn’t commenting on the coaching one way or the other. There is nothing in my post regarding my “philosophy on coaching”. I commented on what I observed. I didn’t think it was a good idea for Trey to bring the ball up I deferred to the BB experts, which obviously doesn’t include you and me. Quote
