TwamleyShuffle Posted January 6 Posted January 6 10:00 pm start time for me living in the Eastern Timezone. Can’t remember last time I stayed up much later to watch UND but I’m going to try my best lol 1 Quote
brianvf Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Article about UND's first trip to AZ in 1978, with some old school pics: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/this-wont-be-unds-first-hockey-road-trip-to-arizona 1 Quote
Sodbuster Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Geez, great story. Those names brought back a lot of memories. They were all really, really good. 1 Quote
brianvf Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Sounds like both teams will have their 1C back in the lineup for this series: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/first-line-forwards-expected-to-return-for-north-dakota-arizona-state Quote UND coach Brad Berry says Berg will play at 9:07 p.m. Central on Friday for the series opener. It will be Berg's first game since Nov. 9 at Minnesota Duluth. He suffered a lower-body injury in practice the following week and has missed the last 10 games. "He's 100%, a full-go," Berry said. "He's all in." Quote Arizona State coach Greg Powers is optimistic on Lucius, who has yet to play this season. "There's a high chance, a very high chance," Powers said. "Hopefully, he'll be in the lineup Friday." Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 So nice that Arizona State has a competitive college hockey team. What a nice winter break playing in Arizona. Quote
hockeytherapy13 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Berg is back in. Who comes out of the lineup Friday night? Littler has only 1 less point than Wilkie in LESS THAN HALF the average amount of ice time. He’s already proven his worth to stay in the lineup with 2-way play and makes hay with his limited ice time. Croal is an absolute grinder with speed and kills penalties very well along with good even strength 2-way okay. Also only 1 point less than Wilkie in essentially half the games and less than half average ice time. Maybe he and Littler alternate on the 4th line or maybe Croal is the extra but I wouldn’t want them out of the lineup. Montgomery is a multi tool, has an A on his jersey, has one more point than Wilkie (haha), and will do anything he is asked to do, but he’s often out of place defensively and doesn’t. In my hot take opinion, I think he should sit. PS I’m not hating on Wilkie, I’m just comparing a player with tons of playing time to guys who, other than Wilkie’s faceoff numbers, have proven themselves to be just as worthy as other players. What does everyone else think here for what they should do for Friday’s game? 1 Quote

I imagine it depends to some extent on the other team's personnel, style of play, strengths, likely matchups, etc. I don't know squat about ASU. Quote
Oxbow6 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 There was sun and temps in the mid 60s today but had ND wind til mid afternoon. @brianvf what's up with that?? Quote

brianvf Posted January 9 Posted January 9 https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/jake-livanavages-brother-was-arizona-states-first-star-hockey-player Nice article on Livanavage and his brother, ex-ASU star Johnny Walker. Quote During his 15U season with the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes, Livanavage was called up to play for the 16U team. His 16U head coach was Nick Naumenko, UND's all-time leader in goals by a defenseman. "He loves North Dakota hockey," Livanavage said. "He bleeds green. I think you see a guy like that, and that's what makes you want to play (at UND) so bad. . . just how much he loves the program, wants to come back and always is talking about North Dakota. 1 Quote

I think Littler and Andrew sit and Montgomery is going to be the extra skater most nights due to his versatility to play both ways. That would be my guess. 2 Quote

The top 12 could be set but that 13th player should still be up for grabs. Because although plus/minus is only a snapshot of a player's skillset, Littler's is too good to just write off, especially with his limited ice time. His foot speed clearly isn't the best but he's definitely worthy of playing over Monty some games because he is better at forward than Monty is at defense, which is most likely where Monty would get slotted in during most game situations. With how poor the PK has been, I don't see them removing Croal altogether but I'm guessing Little and Monty each see 1 game this weekend. Quote
burd Posted January 9 Posted January 9 How much does the home ice factor come into play? Since ASU has the last change, does that affect lineup strategy? I mean, there’s always that well worn cliche’ “just play our game,” but it’s a little more complicated than that, isn’t it? But then, maybe not. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Excited to see a team that is more healthy than it’s been for most of the season. If we don’t play well this weekend then we just might not be as good as we wanted. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Any golf or updates from those lucky enough to be at the games this weekend? Quote

High for Friday maybe 62° and high for Saturday maybe 61°. Greens should be in great shape. Check out the Palo Verde Golf Course if you are looking for a short course in Phoenix You can book on line. If we can get the U of Arizona into the NCHC there is a famous short course, a short distance from my house. Quote
