How did we ever win so many championships in the rat infested Hyslop?

Besides it being a different time and division, the Hyslop had Character.  When the Hyslop as rocking' it was a difficult place for the visiting team.  Problem is the fans that got is rocking was grey hairs now and no one cares anymore.

This might be the end for me as a UND basketball fan. I’m sick of the mediocrity with Chaves as AD. For both men & women.

Average Kenpom rank of 272, career win percentage less than 40%, currently 2 games under .500, has had 1 winning season (finished 1 game over .500), 1 SLT win, never beat ndsu twice in a season. I think I’m about done with the program

Darn we'll miss you both

This is true in many areas of life, not just sports. The younger generation does not turn out for things like the old days. They are much more 'stay at home and stream' type of lifestyle.

It's hard to care when the BB program has been relegated to "just compete" in D1 rather than strive to win championships by the administration.  The Betty was built too small and as an after thought to appease the BB community never intended as a mid major BB arena.  The OLY ice sheet was a hockey overreach where the money could have been used for the VB and BB programs, you know hockey drives the bus. I grew up in Hyslop when it was the premier BB facility in the state. The Betty will never provide that experience for fans and as a recruiting tool it's worse than many high school programs gyms.

I’m not sure it is too small but I do wish it was more of an on top of you environment. A bowl.

Sorry to say it is hard for me to care too much either way.
The regular season is almost irrelevant, it all comes down to the Summit league tournament. Win that and you get into the NC$$ tourney where you are likely one and done. Once the season is over it is time to rebuild again as you will likely have some top players transfer.
I’ll still watch the games and cheer for them but it is difficult to get excited about any success or lack of success.
At least in hockey they are in the championship picture most years. With the coaching changes in football I expect them to be relevant much more often than not. Basketball is kind of like NDSU in the FBS, no chance of ever winning a championship.

yep...their empty d1 trophy will stay empty forever....unless the add women's hockey and you know that they would win natty's left and right and just howl how electric Scheels center is and und was dumb for dropping it

I can remember not too long ago that even yourself, the biggest Sather supporter of all time, was saying how it is time for UND to move on from him.

Just goes to show how bad Chaves is as a D1 athletic director.

I sort of understand why Chaves did this (basically admitting UND expects marginal results from their coach based on resources), but I don't from a competitor standpoint at all.

I wonder how much the big recruit from Minny played into this....he might be highest ranked recruit coming in in how many years?????

with sather we get him..without he decommits?

is this kid worth it if this is the case?

I guess I hope that wasn’t really part of the thought process. I think Moore will be good but I don’t really trust the ranking system and once upon a time reported offers. Remeber Jal Bijek?

From Alex Faber's Herald article:

Quote

Sather is making a base salary of $210,000 for the 2025-26 season. His base salary will increase to $240,000 on May 1, 2026. Sather's base salary will increase by $10,000 in each of the following two seasons of the contract, putting it at $260,000 for the 2028-29 season.

If Sather is fired before April 30, 2027, his buyout will be the full base salary of $240,000. If he is terminated between May 1, 2027, and April 30, 2028, Sather's buyout will be $175,000, which is 70% of his base salary.

If Sather is fired in the final year of his contract, the buyout will be 35% of his base salary, or $91,000.

Some incentives too, most aren’t attainable no matter who the coach is
