Maybe it's clear from those stats, but are those for equal games played/years?

No, a lot of those players played more years at their second school than they did at UND.
Example...Blaisdell two years at UND, three years at UNH.  Tychonick two years at UND, three years at UNO.  Etc.
Also, the vast majority played their underclassmen years at UND, then transferred out to different schools for their upperclassmen years.  I think we've all seen how much better NCAA players get (typically) for their JR/SR/GR seasons when compared to their FR/SO years.  Just look at Caggiula.

No, Gornall and Wilkie had to sit out a year. For the most part they all played roughly the same amount of game season to season (not knowing injuries), with the exception of Gornall who was the extra guy.

Games:

Portal:

Moore: at UND 87; at QU 50 (*)

Costantini: at UND 60; at WMU 47 (*)

B.Johnson: at UND 36; at OSU 48 (*)

L.Bast: at UND 39; at UMD 44 (*)

Portz: at UND 66; at SCSU 27 (*)

Beniot: at UND 19; at QU 11 (*)

Emerson: at UND 6; at MC 10 (*)

Blaisdall: at UND 41; at UNH 89(5)

Tychonick: at UND 52; at UNO 82 (5)

Pre-portal (sat a year):

Ch.Wilkie: at UND 62; at 54 CC

Gornall: at UND 20; at RPI 55 (5) It shows he was at RPI when he sat a year

Yea, if only message board posters could keep their composure like Buffalo Bills fans.  You know, the ones who think diving onto a table and breaking it in two is cool.

What's wrong with Bills Mafia?  Better than Chiefs Kingdumb or whatever the hell they call themselves.

It seems to me Berry has developed a Mike Eaves-style rotation of sucking for 2-3 years then being decent to very good for 2-3 years, with the peaks and troughs being less dramatic for Berry. I think we're currently in the beginning of that cycle much like the 17/18 season. UND's stat website appears to only go back to the 18/19 season, showing Kawaguchi was the highest scorer with 26 points. Our highest scorers, Boisvert and Livanavage, are about on that pace right now.

Only ways I can think to explain how its possible we don't have a single player on a 30-point pace is either we don't have any scoring talent or that talent is suppressed by our system. Seems Perron, McLaughlin, Strinden, and James's output compared to junior point toward the system. Boisvert might be talented enough to score despite it, too soon to tell. But then every one of our aforementioned best offensive players is only talented enough to be a 3rd or 4th liner on a good (2005-08, 2011, 2016, 2020) Sioux team. Both recruiting and system are so bad its hard for me to tell which is worse.

The only bluechip potential gamebreaking offensive talent in the pipeline is 15 years old and I doubt 60 year old Berry is about to change the system. Might be in the trough a while.

That is unfortunately pretty accurate from what we've seen the last few years.
Eaves "sucky" years were ones that UW finished below .500 (sometimes well below).  Seems that Berry's sucky years are one-n-dones or narrowly missing the tourney.
Berry was unfortunate that his last "peak" seasons were right when COVID hit which resulted the whole season being cancelled in our best recent year and then the 5OT debacle the following year.  If he was gonna win it, it needed to be in one of those two years.

How people accept this standard instead of competing for championships every year while we've watched BU, Michigan, and Denver get new coaches that go to the frozen four with Hakstol frequency I'll never understand.

There were a couple stinker recruiting classes in there that seemed to put the program back a bit IMO.  A couple after the 2016 title and then again after the COVID dominant years.  Seems to be an uptick lately at least, we have some very solid recruiting classes on campus and incoming.  Hopefully that translates on the ice at some point...  ???

I'd still take our last decade over BU and UM...they may have more F4 in that span, but we still have the 2016 title while BU's latest was 2009 and UM's 1998.
DU, obviously, is on another level recently.

Over the years, UND has had a lot of injuries during the course of training and game play.  Has anyone openly discussed, what are some of the issues leading to those injuries?  Are the amount of injuries both in practice and/or in game play what is expected as an average for teams in the NCAA? Or do these injuries rise above the average or below the average?  This would make an interesting Master’s or Ph.D. Thesis.  Plus it would provide instructive information to UND sport’s teams or the hockey team specifically.

Enough with the voice of reason, brian.

@brianvf Why do you think the upcoming recruiting classes look solid? Respectfully, to me they look much like the usual Berry. Some good junior players with talent similar to those that chronically underperform once they arrive and some mediocre players. Zellers looks like the best one and I'd guess he's a second/third rounder. I'm not aware of any bona fide studs like the other blue bloods are bringing in every year other than potentially McKamey.

Nope. Everything bad that happens is the result of bad luck. (sarcasm) :silly:

You mean blaming our lack of national tournament success on bad luck is now "the voice of reason"?

He did that?  My reading skills are like our PK.

Which I blame on injury.

He does it on a regular basis on this forum. After what happened last night in REA and this afternoon in Normal, lL, I am just not in the mood for false positivity.

Bad luck? What are you talking about?

Please show me anywhere I’ve ever posted that our lack of recent tournament success was due to “bad luck”.
It should be easy for you to find being that I do it on a regular basis.

I've said it before and I will say it again this is/was the most frustrating thing for me. Look what Carle has done creating momentum after momentum in all areas of his program after the national championships beating out Minnesota for two blue-chip cities area kids (which is unheard of for DU) and we follow our national title up with two of the worst recruiting classes I can remember with on-ice results to show for it!

Agreed for sure. With all the Hakstol F4 tourney success before that followed by Berry finally getting the team over that final hump…that should have been a springboard to getting a few blue chippers on board in those next few classes. Sure didn’t happen though.

Jammer is the extra forward?

They probably just want him on the bench.  I doubt he'll play much.  If he was good to go, he'd be playing center on a line.
