$imple explanation, right out of the AD manual.

- Buses/fuel cheaper than hotels.

- Taxpayers would throw a fit.

- HS athletics budgets under fire.

- "If you do it for boys hockey, you have to do the same for _____."

I agree, but in a weather situation with a region tournament going on the NDHSAA has to have some $$ set aside somewhere for something like this.

And if a lot of taxpayers took the time to look over budgets of schools they'd throw a fit anyways.

This past June, during the girls state soccer tournament in Grand Forks, there was some pretty crazy weather heat wise that ended up needing to push the games back until after the sun went down. Parents of the Fargo teams purchased hotel rooms for their own teams.

Can verify.

Relative played. Twisted Pint was a nearby “cooling station”. We all wondered by UND didn’t volunteer the ITF or GF offer Alerus.

All games will now be tomorrow.

But will they with the weather?

My “Weather Magic 8 Ball” says … I can’t see it because of the blizzard/shirt storm.

Having the lights automatically shutdown at Cushman in the second semifinal once it hit midnight was quite the experience.

You were there for that too?

That was awesome.

We took off after our hour plus halftime rain delay/bush league offsides wipe away a goal semifinal loss that night.....but still not too bitter.

Play the f-n EDC championship in Fargo......it's 2 Fargo schools.

Why even put the two Fargo teams on the road tomorrow?  I'd be surprised if the teams make it to Grand Forks tomorrow.

They could have waited until this afternoon to make a call.  Drove up I29 mid afternoon with issues.  Visibility was good with no drifts.  Definitely could have gotten the 2 state qualifying games in late afternoon/early evening opposed to tomorrow's mess.  Way to go Rerick.

Strong statements coming from someone who posted them after 7:30 p.m. on the day in question. Hindsight much?

There were at least two teams traveling in through weather (Blizzard warning was scheduled to end at 6:00), two local teams, plus on and off-ice officials, venue staff, and other logistics to put into place.  Lots of moving pieces.  The championship game added yet another layer.

The event organizers (local AND state) are certainly not above criticism here (especially for travel contingencies that could have been planned in advance and cost avoidance measures bordering on the extreme/absurd), but playing Sunday night quarterback and micro-analyzing one single decision made earlier this morning is frankly unfair.

EDIT:  These pigs also wish to voice their support in favor of the postponement decision.  https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/local/semi-trailer-hauling-pigs-overturns-south-of-thompson. BTW, this happened after 2:00, in "whiteout conditions."

Sounds like two Fargo teams made trip tonihjt and in hotels

South is still in Fargo right now.

Plan B is to play at Farmers Union rink tomorrow at 530 pm. That should have been Plan A once games got postponed today.

The NDHSAA website says "three games today at Purpur".

https://ndhsaanow.com/schedules/icehockey-boys?program_id=&tier_id=214&level=varsity&interval=today

That means WF Sheyenne, North, South, and Davies all made it up I-29. (And will be able to get home later ... )

In other news, I have a bridge for sale from when I lived out east ...

From my intel South hasn't left Fargo and they have no intention of leaving in this weather.

Dumb should have let the Fargo schools play for title in fargo

Where do they each play home games? If they're worried about "home advantage", play it in one of the WF rinks.
