Too bad. Good guy. I’m sure he wants to play. Lots of talent around him. Olson will be bringing in his guys now too so if the writing is on the wall, may as well pull stakes and get started!  Good luck to him!

To prevent repeating yourself (which is frowned upon here) in terms of “too bad, good guy”, best just hold off on all farewell comments until the *end* of the impending mass exodus of players from this dumpster fire  …

But, Go Hawks!

I suspect Bubba's biggest supporters wear dull green and p!ss yellow.  I  wonder if they are doing more than laughing,  and cheering on this train wreck? Maybe everyone Should email Chaves today and ask him what time the game is this weekend.

Thank you, Mike, for actually writing about this!

https://www.inforum.com/sports/college/mcfeely-what-becomes-of-bubba-at-und

I appreciate the press (even if the Forum) writing on this. No way the Heraldo and their reporters (although I like them personally) would cover such a critical topic on the hometown program … an issue that comes back to UND athletics being treated more like a high school athletics program than a division I collegiate athletics program.

Anyways, still a frustrating article though to say the least. Plenty of subtle jabs in there at UND, from a “hockey school not having 750k to spend on football” or the implied  “UND shouldn’t expect to do better than NDSU, SDSU, Montana State, or Montana”, but nonetheless this is the reality we’re living in. As an aside, what division I university that sponsors football, basketball and hockey considers itself a “hockey school”? I’ll just say, none that are successful, but as McFeely wrote, that’s a topic for another time.

And in the end, I hope the bottomline is true, and Schweigert doesn’t have the title of head coach very soon. Then we can actually discuss “who should UND hire?”.

Until then, I continue to seriously question my affinity towards my alma mater’s athletics, and continue to devise my own exit strategy.

@UND-FB-FAN I loved every jab. As everyone is well aware, this athletics department is a complete embarrassment. I hope this article gets a lot of attention. I want more and more people pissed. Enough of being the doormat or “peer” schools. Get Bubba & Chaves out.

Only one I didn’t like was the jab to us fans. Made it sound like all of us were complaining that NDSU got the 2 seed. I would say it was pretty split

No question the athletics department and the individual programs are largely a mess, starting with the complete lack of competitive success, but now other complaints are mounting as well.

I just don’t think the way UND history on firing coaches goes that Mcfeely knows very little about is that if Bubba gets fired that would happened last Sunday or Monday. My guess is we hire new defensive coordinator and possibly the future new head coach very similar to way South Dakota State had with their long term coach. Then come next year we have partial buyout of Bubbas contract and he takes position in athletic department to reaching near buyout of his contract. This puts in place a plan where there is not total blow up football program. Administration with title IX problems ahead will not to want to take on additional financial expenditures because I have to believe this going to become costly thing for athletic department. This problem could open up title IX problems going back to women’s hockey. The complaints for soccer facilities I believe are real I look at other conference members have for facilities to what we have and looking at up grades to football, hockey, and not to mention  up to recently women’s sports mostly competed off campus venues or shared with men’s sports. I got off track here but for football fans here there is much more going on here than you think.

If it means getting Bubba out now, then yes. Otherwise, I’m not seeing a timeline that works. Unless Chaves gets fired today.

Edit: Still think if Chaves is thinking at all long term about his own career, he finds a way to get Bubba out now.

If it happens expect the replacement to be named 5 days later.  Has to happen quick so there could be discussions going on further behind the scenes IF things have moved forward with Bubba.

I think that one is on me.  Just to make it more clear - I am from South Dakota - I have family and friends who played football/ WBB and track for USD/SDSU and SDSM&T.  My USD football background goes back to "the Pitch" and USD vs NDSU national championship game.  I currently have family playing on SDSU football team.  So, McFeely reads my comments and doesn't understand my USD/SDM&T undergrad side and numerous connections on the SDSU side of things.  I am more active on the Sioux Sports board because this board obviously covers UND sports and it is generally more active.  So, if McFeely comments are based on my numerous recent posting it is really off the mark and misguided given my USD/SDSU bias.  And for that I do apologize.  But, the error by McFeely is really on brand for him IMO.

No worries. I should also make it clear that McFeely is a clown and that I usually don’t put any weight into anything he says

I don't see UND moving Bubba to another position.  First off, they'd have to create a new job for him and they'd have to fund it.  Second is Bubba is under contract and has to agree to it and why would he when he's guaranteed $750,000 with what he has.   Actually he's getting even more if he coaches to the end.

It’s about him saving face. He otherwise is going to turn his current history with UND into an ugly ending if he sticks this out. He will create internal enemies if he tries another season as head coach with UND, and I can’t imagine he nor UND wants that.

It is time; this is an issue of himself vs the entire program (which includes alumni and fans).  Back in late 2013 during Bubba’s introductory HC press conference, he stated it was always about the betterment of the team (program), not the individual. Let’s see if he actually meant that or not …

No Danny return per source.....

That’s fine, although Danny has always been good. Get the best candidate, and in all honestly, an outside candidate with minimal to no UND exposure and high potential looking to elevate eventually into FBS would be the best. Fruechte would be the only internal candidate I’d consider, but again, external candidate with bright future is ideal.
