So basically Bubba has a lifetime contract as long as he wants it.

Lol.

No, they will have to buy out his remaining contract....a "golden parachute" if you will.

Just like they did with Mussman.

Guess how many years Mussman had left on his contract?

None of this process is new. We've been playing this same process out since the inception of SiouxSports. We can all go back and look at history of posts on this site and see exactly what the future will look like.

Lol yourself. This isn't funny.

My point is that Chaves will keep extending him indefinitely so he doesn't have to have that difficult conversation with him. And if he does that, you'll probably give us another contract negotiation lesson in support of it. :silly:

It's a sport you watch for entertainment purposes. Affects nothing in your life.

Except our own enjoyment is less because we lose more.

Cheering is more fun. We all want more fun in our life's.

If you think Chaves will just keep extending Bubba, regardless of performance, I got a AZ beachfront property to sell you.

But if you wanna disagree what a "fireable season" is than Chaves thinks. That's a point of discussion.

Name one hire that Chaves has made that has worked out in any meaningful way.

You can't........unless you are fine with all the mediocrity. I am not with it.

I've seen that exact same argument for every athletic director and every major head coach for UND over the last 25+ years.

Sorta rings hollow when its constantly thrown around.

Here’s something that doesn’t ring hollow.  UND’s 3 women’s team sports of volleyball, softball and soccer record-wise for the last 4 complete seasons in conference play only have a total combined overall winning percentage (I threw out the 10 soccer ties) of just 27% with a total record of 47 W - 124 L.  That is just ridiculous.  If you throw in the 4th women’s team sport basketball it rises slightly to 31% overall with total record of 74W - 165 L.  I can bet you the other 3 Dakota schools come nowhere near approaching that level of mediocrity.

If wins and losses are 100% irrelevant, we are officially running this program like a high school program.

So many people don't know how many FCS playoff wins Bubba has.

How am I suppose to respect their opinion?

Let’s be real, nobody counted that spring season except Sam Houston and Bubba supporters.

This stinks.  So much time spent in angst. Wish it had just been taken care of last winter naturally.

This

Doesn’t seem like a commitment to women’s sports at UND.

especially when there is success at the su’s

I thought Mussman only had one year left when he was let go.   Now I sure could be wrong and probably am, just wondering if it really was two years left.

Mussman has two years remaining on his contract. He will receive his full salary in 2014 and 50 percent of his salary in 2015, providing he does not take another coaching position.

So if Bubba is let go after next season: another 2 year buyout.

The last two pages of this discussion shows me why UND will seemingly NEVER get to the upper echelon!  NDSU fans and boosters ran a coach out of town who had a 60-11 record and two titles because they didn’t like the trajectory the program was on.

And now they’re cruising…

Meanwhile we extend Bubba multiple times with much more mediocre results and to some it’s “water under the bridge”…

This is D1 folks…wake me up when we want to look the part!

Hard to argue that

This discussion is bordering on rediculous.. remember.. the additional two year extension was after….

1) another terrible defensive performance leading to a loss of a home playoff game.
2) arguably your best two coaches leaving for lateral moves at best

3) a home town kid/und football player/und football family stopping through town for 5 mins on his way to a lateral position at your instate rival..

seems like any of those three above situations would be a.. hey let’s pump the brakes on an extension and see how this year works out.  I mean he still had two years on his contract.. it wasn’t like they were going to throw him out in the street..

and agree 100% with und08.. ndsu ran entz out of town after he had a season we can only dream about.. the difference in expectations is substantial.. I’m old enough to remember when we were relevant and I miss it.

And it didn't cost NDSU a cent to get rid of the coach.   He got a better paying job elsewhere.   This is what's so frustrating.

I disagree; it’s the only option when discussion and communication is blatantly ignored time and time again.

The expectations just aren’t there for UND football apparently.  I do agree folks should focus on “raising their family or helping their kids in college etc.” but concurrently they probably should not be attending/donating to UND athletics if the University leaders are only going to gaslight them and spend their donated dollars irresponsibly and without merit.

Then we disagree on the best approach. Another option is to pay a significant amount toward a buyout.

If our donations drop significantly, and attendance is markedly down, it makes it more difficult to attract recruits and some potential coaches. If support stays strong, our program is more attractive from the outside looking in.  Once donors find other options for donations, a number of them don’t come back.

People have posted that our sister school to the south fired a coach who was something like 60-11. I understood boosters showed up with checkbooks rather than abandon ship but I wasn’t there, so I may be wrong.

Money talks, especially if it’s someone else’s money. With this problem, is obvious more is said than done.
