PyeongChang, South Korea, won the bid for the 2018 Olympics on July 6, 2011, beating out Munich and Annecy, France. The opening ceremony is set for Feb. 9 and the closing ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 25.

Not sure where to put this, but I figure this is as good of a place as any.

There has been plenty of article floating around regarding whether or not the NHL will participate in the Olympics in 2018. If they choose not to, would we expect to see the Olympic team go back to college players then? On the one hand, it would be really hard to compete. On the other hand, it would be really fun to see college kids back on the Olympic team. It'll be interesting to see if college kids get the opportunity, and if UND will have anyone that would be able to participate at that time.

On the NHL Network yesterday afternoon they reported that Alex Ovechkin said he intends to play in the 2018 Olympics regardless of the NHL will allow players to participate.

I don't think the World Cup of Hockey is going to succeed. It didn't work last time.

I'm on the get rid of Gary Bettmen bandwagon.  NBC isn't going to stop Olympic broadcast to show NHL games. If Bettman was smart he'd realize that if the USA wins the gold the NHL benefits as does the sport.
