choyt3
The UND scoring drive? You mean the one where UND had to go about 2 feet to punch it in? Lol. There were no "scoring drives" by UND in the game played today.Look, UND is making some strides . With that being said, the neutral sight comment is just plain hilarious. I have watched a lot of football . I saw one team today from North Dakota that was frankly superior in talent than the other. If this game was played 100 times between these two teams, UND might win 1, and that is being fine. The dome had been much much crazier than today. Talent is what caused this beat down today . Not crowd noise.
Popular Post Oxbow6
So far this year I have witnessed probably the 2 worst halves of offensive football that I have seen in about 40 years of being a Sioux fan. If they can't do anything but run, run, pass, punt - rinse and repeat - don't plan on packing the Alerus Center anytime soon. I figured that we would be schooled, but the first half was brutal. Changes need to be made - starting with the guy who calls these exciting plays.UND has a total of 29.........I'll repeat that TWENTY NINE....yards rushing in the last 2 games. Bubba Ball this is not. If this team can't manage a minimum of 75-80 ypg rushing in the BSC they have zero chance to win. The Cats ran 104 plays yesterday and gained 700+ yards............and LOST to EWU. The Griz will run 90+ plays every game. UND has to move the ball on the ground occasionally and get an occasional first down. This team shows limited ability to make plays thru the air. The UND D is decent....good for the BSC but no D can weather the storm of 80+ plays and 35+ minutes on the field every game. This offense for the last 2 seasons to date under Rudolph has been nothing less than a Sh*t Show and frankly that is being kind. Again someone rewatch the game yesterday and tell me how many different "plays" UND ran outside of switching some formations. And to those beating their chests about supporting this team and calling out "fair weather fans"...........stop. This product called UND FB is so painful to watch in its current state, and for the last 8+ years, that if someone has something else that is at a minimum as important as supporting UND FB why wouldn't you pass on driving miles to GF to continue to watch this. Irish has seen more UND FB than me and to say in 40+ year this offense has produced the worst halves of FB he has seen say something.........say a lot. Bubba needs to grab the rest of this season by the nuts before it is completely lost and IMO that start with the play calling. It's only 6:45 am and I'm popping Lisinopril like Pez I'm so worked up typing this and I still have almost 11 hours til GB/SEA kick off............
Johnny Five
Amazing tailgate, never seen lines like that so early. The atmosphere early was definitely playoff loud. Too bad this isn't an annual event but that's another thread for a different day. Best wishes to your injured player and best of luck in the Big Sky Conference.

mksioux
You are assuming this team won't get any better at all from now to the end of the season. If this team doesn't make any improvements, there are probably zero wins left on this schedule. Two more wins assumes some improvement. More then two wins assumes a lot of improvement.
BigGame
A lot of truth in there. I will say that some of you have forgot about the Rob days of 3 runs and a punt cause the defense was so good. I am going to hang in there with the team. Yesterday early in the second quarter I was thinking UND should just try to three straight run plays and punt or maybe get a first but the passing offense was so bad yesterday it hurt the chances of any first downs. basically I saw a run for no gain to 3 or 4 yards and the next play was a sack we would end up punting and giving the bison a short field. The defense really doesn't have a chance when games play out like they did yesterday. Studsrud has a long way to go as a college QB. I thought the selling point for him was his athleticism so he could run if needed when the play wasn't open. I really don't see any of that from him at this point and I know Wentz is crazy good but if you watch him, he drops back, goes quickly through his progression and if the play isn't open he is decisive and takes off. I think being able to quickly decide where to go with the ball or just tuck it and run is really going to help the offense, let's hope Studsrud gets to that point soon. I am not going to make the claim that the O line played well but I think both Santiago and Smith left yards on the field yesterday. I think they need to get upfield quicker and take the 2 to 3 yards that are blocked before trying to make a move. 3rd and 5 is a heck of a lot better than 3rd and 10 or 15. This offense really can't afford any negative plays or missing what should be pretty easy 5 to 10 yard completions. The talent gap was very obvious yesterday but I don't think UND is that far away from catching up but if the offense can't start to at least get a few first downs the defense is screwed because you can't consistently be put in terrible field position and expect to stop the other teams offense. MafiaMan
For the folks who feel an NCAA football championship rings hollow if your team loses a regular season game to an in-state rival...Would NDSU fans ever hear the end of it if UND were to miraculously win the FCS title later this year? Or would we be too busy pouting over a week 3 loss to the Bison in Fargo to celebrate?
BigGame
I had somewhat defended Rudolph in the past, but would now have to agree with others.....that was some pathetic play calling. I could have been given UND's play list an hour before the game and chosen better plays than that. Execution was horrible, but still.......the play calling wasn't helping anything. We are as bad on offense now as we were to start the year last year, didn't think we'd go back to that level of ineptitude. Our offense was horrible to start the year last year, which was understandable given the situation. We did improve a lot by the end of the year, sure hope we improve a LOT this year from where we are now. But am extremely disappointed that we are back to a zero starting point on offense. I guess I don't know what you should call when you line isn't blocking well in the run game. Your QB either takes a sack when he drops back or throws very inaccurate passes (incomplete). Two of the RB's were not hitting the hole that was blocked. The WR rarely if ever got separation yesterday. The offense needs to improve dramatically everywhere and after the first 2 drives yesterday I probably wouldn't have called another pass play because it was either a sack with OL, QB, and the coordinator responsible or a wild pass that had no chance to be complete. The only play yesterday that looks pretty consistent was the toss play that I would need to go back and take a look but I think was zone blocked. Almost every time is was blocked for 2 to 5 yards for any RB that would get up field quickly. Oliveira was the best RB yesterday and has a lot of improvements to make but he always gets a yard or two once contact is made past the LOS. NDSU went on to have the greatest basketball season either university has ever seen, beating Notre Dame in South Bend, winning the Summit League and beating Oklahoma in the NCAA tournament. All I heard back then, and continue to hear from UND fans, is, "yeah, but we beat NDSU".Maybe you guys only dwell on one game when it is UND comes out on the winning side? BigGame
Something I noticed yesterday was Will Ratelle having to scramble around to get everyone lined up properly on defense. I think that says a lot of good things about him but I also think it's got to be hard to line everyone up then get to his alignment right before or as the ball is snapped. This game was fare worse. The Bison defense last year, before the Beck injury , was special. Not on the level of the 2013 Bison, but still phenomenal . This year's NDSU defense is somewhere between the 2010 and 2011 defenses. Definitely not special . UND made them look like the 1985 Bears yesterday. This game easily could have been 52-0 type of game.On the flip side, I really am sick of hearing about that vaunted UND defense . They were completely torn to shreds. Sure, UND only gave up 125 rushing yards, or whatever it ended up being, but they had 9 guys in the box, shooting the gaps the entire freaking game. I honestly have never seen anything like that. Playing like that is going to stop the run, but they are going to get absolutely touched against any team with an average QB. 2011BisonAlumni
Just like I predicted. Play like you did against Drake, NDSU wins 45-3. This is sad. Wyoming must have been a false hope.I chuckled pretty hard when I had read your "play like you did against Wyoming and UND wins, play like you did against Drake and UND gets blown out". This game had nothing to do with UND "playing bad". They were completely overwhelmed physically and were beat to !@#$ by a team who is better conditioned, coached and are more talented. Period.I still don't think you understand how bad Wyoming is. They might go down to be the worst FBS team ever. I am pretty confident they would not win a game in the MVFC this year. They might win 2 games in the Big Sky. UND has dug a huge hole for themselves. Bubba seems like an extremely nice guy, but frankly he comes off more like a guy who sits around the cafe in the morning drinking coffee with his buddies . His main recruiting area does not fit geographically with the Big Sky. It is a gigantic disadvantage . He also has to compete with SDSU and UNI for recruits. He has a gigantic task at hand trying to turn UND around. Honestly , their only hope is to get into the MVFC. I fully expect that with the nickname issue behind them , you will see UND making a push to get into the Summit and MVFC. It just makes more sense. If the don't , they might as well drop football because playing in the Big Sky is never going to work for them . They were a bad team , but they were still nowhere near how bad Wyoming is this year. I don't remember any NDSU fans acting like that was the biggest game ever. I think that was NDSU's fourth FBS win by that point. Look an FBS win is an FBS win, but you guys acted like winning that game automatically meant the NDSU game would be tight. I think UND played decent against Wyoming, but they were going to get steamrolled by NDSU no matter what team showed up. The talent gap was evident. 2011BisonAlumni
Anybody see the sign at the game that said: "we still have hockey!"...hmmmmI read an article yesterday about a guy from Texas who made the trip to Fargo with his son. Mentioned that they were both wearing hockey gear.Serious question. Do you think UND fans wear hockey jerseys to football games because that is the only apparel they own ? If that is the case, someone needs to start handing out UND Football shirts to incoming freshmen and those attending games at the Alerus Center. 1
