cberkas
Illinois announced a $300 Million campaign for athletics. Looks like hockey wouldn't be part of that $300 Million. http://www.pantagraph.com/sports/college/illinois/illini-announce-million-campaign-for-athletics/article_7231353b-4173-5ddb-9897-1dea4a1ab335.html Quote Whitman also said the school continues to explore the feasibility of adding intercollegiate men’s hockey, but that the $300 million being raised as part of the “With Illinois” project would not cover that expense. “We’re working with consultants and anxious to see how that works out,” Whitman said. “If we can bring hockey across the finish line that would be above and beyond; we see it as a tremendous opportunity to get a hockey program and to transform our community.” Sources have said the university is looking at a three-rink facility with one rink designated for community use, another as a practice rink and a third as part of a 5,000-seat arena for competition. Although the university has received encouragement from the National Hockey League and the Chicago Blackhawks, funding for the hockey facility and program would be essential and remains unresolved. SiouxVolley
There is a report that LIU Post will be adding a DII women's hockey program. A DII program doesn't make much sense unless it is for Title IX to match a men's scholarship program. Long Island or NYC doesn't have a DI program for either men or women. LIU Post (formerly known as C W Post) is DII, but it has a club program for men that could move up and they are advertizing for a coach of a women's program, which will be added. The AHA needs another school. Nassau County Coliseum has been massively downsized in seating from its Islander days, so that may be a hosting venue. The men's club team plays at Parkwood arena now in Great Neck, NY.

I could see the men’s DII teams finding a way to be eligible for the men’s NCAA DI Tournament. I wouldn’t look to much into them adding a women’s team meaning they’re adding a men’s team. Then add in the whole DII schools can’t have a DI team that has come up. https://www.sbncollegehockey.com/womens-hockey/2017/11/28/16707432/the-saint-anselm-explained-number-one-pairwise-ncaa-womens-hockey-tournament Stony Brook is a club them that has been mentioned as a possible future DI team, but no real proof that they have even looked at adding DI hockey. Stony Brook has an avowed goal to be FBS, making hockey a back burner item. Stony Brook should have a DI hockey team, but that is probably way off in the future as preparations for FBS are expensive like an enlarged stadium. Can't find how much LIU Post has for an endowment, although it was started by the Post cereal owner.

SiouxVolley
Toledo will move its club team up to Acha D1. It might be a sleeper school to start hockey, as there is an 8k arena already in town where an ECHL team plays. Would really be a good rival for Bowling Green and Oakland. There are a few DII men’s hockey teams that are in a DIII conference, I don’t remember which one. Right now there are 6 women’s DII schools with HC moving up to DI next year, so there is a scheduling agreement agreement with the DII and DI schools on the women’s side. Yote 53
So, let's get back to talking about schools that have serious money and can afford D1 hockey programs. The biggest hurdle for any school adding a hockey program is an arena, that hurdle is being overcome in Iowa City. No matter how many times the Iowa AD says that Iowa has no intention of adding hockey, I don't believe him. Illinois is studying it. Nebraska has long been rumored. Iowa is a natural fit with those schools and now will have an arena for it. Smack dab in the middle of USHL country and just to the south of MN and WI, and just west of Chicago. Right in the middle of fertile recruiting grounds even if Iowa itself is not a hotbed of recruits. http://daily-iowan.com/2017/10/02/coralville-moves-forward-with-new-iowa-arena-project/

I honestly thought they’d never do it since the city has been been asking for money for about a year or 2.

SiouxVolley
An article about how Sacred Heart is doing in their rented 8500 seat Webster Bank arena. Hasnt improved ticket sales that much, but selling 1500 seats is an improvement. Almost all the AHA teams have been upgrading or built or are planning new arenas. Sacred Heart is not the pushover that it used to be.
