Sioux Jersey Fouls (or any other jersey, for that matter)

Had a discussion with a buddy recently about what constitutes a jersey foul. The "jersey tucker" commercial below is a good example...

...but that's an obvious one. Seriously, nevermind worrying about upsetting someone because of the logo on the front of your Sioux jersey, if you're tucking it in and made it past security into the arena, then security obviously isn't doing their job.

I'll give you another one - and this one I saw personally at the X a few years ago. A mid-to-late 1980's green SIoux jersey. I won't say the name of the person who was wearing it, but let's just say you would all know who she is if I told you who her husband is. Anyways, the greens of this day and age did not have the nameplate with the name on the back sewn onto the jersey. Hers didn't either. What it did have, though, was a custom-made name on back. No name-plate, just a ridiculously small font of individual letters sewn on the back. When I asked her where she got this jersey, she snapped at me that it was "100% authentic". I let it go but it was a complete foul. Bill & Ted's Excellent Screenprinting and Embroidery fooled her big-time.

I'm curious to know what your jersey fouls are...feel free to list them here.

If you're going to spend $75 on customizing your authentic jersey, please don't do THIS to it.

Also, "DISLEXIC" should have apparently been "SPELLING-CHALLENGED" and if your boyfriend is wearing #96 and your name is "BASSACKWARDS," shouldn't your number be #69? Of course, if she was #69, she'd be guilty of not one but TWO jersey fouls...

Also if you should be wearing a XXL but decided to got with the saugage casing look by squeezing into a large...please stop that!

Does the similar rule also apply to the XXXL guy (and I'm not picking on XXXL guys here) who is wearing the replica jersey of a player the size of Brian Gionta?

Why yes it does apply.

Getting back to the newest UND jersey. It would be interesting to see the volume of sales on those. I am sure jersey sales have dropped significanlty obvioulsy, since they retired the logo and went with the newer jersey now three years ago?

I plan to never own one of those. Might consider buying a newer jersey with a new nickname down the road, but we shall see...

I totally concur that this new jersey...and I won't ever own one myself.

Having the new jersey with no numbers on it is a major foul. It actually would look cool minus the armpit stains and a Sioux logo on the shoulders. Then it would be awesome.

The 50 year old guy wearing the jersey of an 18-year old freshman? Is that a foul?

Player's name on the back of a jersey he never wore? Example: Current jersey with #7 and OSHIE or #29 BELFOUR. Blow the whisle?

Your OWN name on the back of a jersey? You certainly can't be traded to another school, right? Foul or not?

If I am going to get a Belfour jersey or an Oshie jersey, I am going to make sure the jersey I got is the style they wore.

Awesome! Known-jersey collector siouxkid12 pipes in with his thoughts. This is like sitting down with the Pope and talking to him about Catholicism!

What's your take then on your own name and number on the back? No-way? How about wearing jerseys of teams that aren't playing (let's say, for example, a Finland jersey to a Sioux/Denver game. What if you're wearing a Sioux hat with that jersey? Is that a chance to show off your jersey collection or are you a clown in non-Sioux gear?

HAHA....I think it's fine to have your own name and number on the back of a jersey. I have one exception though, all retired numbers stay retired unless it was that last player who wore it. I wear jerseys of the teams that arn't playing all the time! I used to go to games to watch them but now I go to people watch and see what kind of jerseys everyone has (I would love to see more game worn ones).

That's just my 2 cents....

In my opinion;

Tucked: Foul

Sizing: Hockey Jerseys look better loose, and even better when they are gamers.

New "North Dakota" without number: Doesn't look right, so foul.

UND alums on different era jerseys: If the jersey says "Sioux" and they played in a Sioux jersey (regardless of era/brand), fair. If they played only in a "North Dakota" jersey, then it should stay consistent. *Exception* Engelstad is fair in any style with correct number.

Personalized with your name: fair, I even don't mind it with a "C" or "A" because I'm a fan of patches.

Other team jerseys: totally fair, you paid good money for your jersey, wear it! But don't be bringing NBA jerseys to a hockey game though.

Nicknames on jerseys: fair if appropriate and no innuendos. I saw one this year with his Twitter @ username, found it to be very creative and I followed him because of that.

1/2 and 1/2 jerseys: Foul, pick a team/player and stick with it (unless you're a parent of the 2)

Jerseys with name and not numbers: Foul

Jerseys with numbers and not name: Fair

Name on jersey taped over/ X out: Foul

That's all I can think off off hand.

Point 1 - totally agree. There's ZERO reason to be wearing a T-Wolves jersey or Vikings jersey to a Sioux game. Ever.

Point 2 - totally agree again. I've never seen someone with a name on the back of a jersey but no number. Absolute foul.

Point 3 - numbers only are fine if they're era-specific and names on the back didn't exist then. But if you're buying a 2014 Sioux, er, UND jersey and are just going to put a number on it, in my humble opinion, it just looks like something's missing.

I know I'm definitely in the minority on this one, but I don't like personal names on jerseys. I think it's an honor that should be reserved for the players who have earned it.

Hmnnn...that's a pretty good argument. So what if it's a player's name (that happens to be your own name) but with a different number?

Flame away.

Based on that logic, authentic jerseys shouldn't be available to the general public at all because we haven't earned it. And that goes double for game worn jerseys. What say you?
