Would be pretty impressive for NCAA hockey to get the #1 and #2 draft picks next year, even if one is headed to the Goofers. Quote
brianvf Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 Congrats to Strathmann...he is poised for a big USHL season. Quote UND defenseman commit Andrew Strathmann will wear the 'C' this season for the Youngstown Phantoms, the team announced this week. Strathmann, a fourth-round draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets, will come to campus next fall. Strathmann helped Youngstown win its first Clark Cup in the spring. 2 Quote
ChadR Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 Does anyone know if Bowden Singleton is still a commit or not? Chris Heisenberg's 2024 list has him crossed out. Quote

No idea how he could still be a commit. He got dropped from both the USHL and BCHL. I don’t see how a player is cut from two separate Junior A league and has a spot at a program lines ours. Unless there was some sort of issue behind the scenes. edit- his Instagram profile still has him as a ND commit. Again, I’d be shocked if he makes it to campus. Quote

I really wonder what went on with him, going from the all rookie team in the AJHL to not even making it to the regular season with Green Bay. I wonder if he didn’t learn to play both ends of the ice and didn’t see the ice much because of it. He went back to the AJHL and was putting up a point a game again. Hopefully he can figure it out and put it back together. Tucker Poolman was cut by juniors, but he was a late bloomer, but hopefully UND is rewarded for not giving up on a guy who has some deficiencies that need to be addressed if he has any hopes of showing up on campus. Tucker poolman was an unreal athletes trending the right way at the right time. Singleton was a super good youth player. Good players have come out of the AJ, but it isn’t all that good of a league at all. They’ve all been good players staying close to home. Not being able to make a USHL team and getting cut by BCHL team is a colossal red flag. But…he’s not that old. I’m thinking he’ll end of at a smaller school out east. Quote

scpa0305 Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Nice get! Really hoping we’re not out on Hensler though. 1 Quote
tnt Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Was Hensler going to accelerate? If so, is he still a possibility with Strathmann, Jubenvil, and Emery set to come in? What about McInnis, is he eligible for 2024 as well? With his injury, maybe he does what Strathmann did and get another year under his belt. Quote

McInnis got knicked up a bit last season, so I'm assuming he's coming in 2025 Quote

How crazy good does that defensive group look in the next several years with Wiebe, Livanavage, Zmolek, Emery, Strathmann and McInnis, and cross your fingers on Hensler. 3 2 Quote
Popular Post AJS Posted July 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 24, 2023 Huge commitment. For multiple reasons. Most importantly from a talent standpoint, potential Top 2 round pick in next years draft. Winning a recruiting battle with two BIG Ten teams, for an NTDP guy, right before the "new" recruiting season kicks off. This one feels very important. Is this the start of a wave that we've seen at MN, BU, MI, BC the last couple years? We'll see. I'm with the group where this wouldn't change the Hensler conversation. Like @siouxforce19 said, you make room. Two things would happen, first, mid-season everything would be reevaluated. There is precedent set that says if need be, they'll bring in 9 D (Sanderson's FR year). If the Coaching staff thinks a player is valuable and needs to come in, they'll come in. The other direction, which is harsher is someone might get the conversation that they can still come in, but their $ might be minimal, PT will be hard to come by. That would be either a current recruit (1 really sticks out) or 2, at the end of the season, with a current player. Right now, you have the big $ locks for next years defensive class being Strathmann and Emery. McInnis being wait and see (injury plagued first year) but could take off. Jubenvil being low $ but maxed out of Junior years. Ausmus going to the BCHL would seem to be a guy who would be playing another year of Juniors past this next year. 2 4 Quote
tnt Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 https://www.therinklive.com/mens-division-1/nchc/twenty-names-to-watch-when-college-hockeys-recruiting-season-opens Got 4 recruits from this list last year. Let's do the same with this year's list. Quote
AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Wow, first west coast* blue chip since Rocco. As tempting as it will be to make NWA references with him born in Compton, he's undoubtedly heard it his entire life. * defined as Whistler to San Diego Quote

Also, I didn’t realize Ausmus was going to the BCHL. Such a great decision for him. Game up there is a bit more wagon wheel…less heavy. Hopefully he finds his O game again. If I were advising him, I’d have him play 1-2 more year of juniors. Undrafted…he should just age out. It’ll help him and the team. Quote
