ChetSteadman Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I've thought about this too. Five regular forwards for sure will be gone after this season (seniors Gaarder, MacMillan, O'Donnell, Parks, Pattyn), with a sixth (Caggiula) that could potentially leave in order to sign a free agent deal. We currently have just six committed forward recruits who would even be eligible to come in this fall (Yon, Gersich, Wilkie, Gardner, Bowen, & Cakebread), and I would say only two or three of those commits (Gersich, Wilkie, maybe Gardner) are ready to play at the NCAA level. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Hopefully the potential to earn a lot of playing time helps to entice the likes of Boeser and Matthews. I don't think Boeser and Matthews would be too worried about playing time. I don't see Matthews playing NCAA, but it would be nice. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 How has Mathews looked? I haven't been able to watch him play yet. Quote
SiouxForever Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 We have some secret players coming in next year. No room for Rowe. Quote
NoDakFan Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 How has Mathews looked? I haven't been able to watch him play yet. He looks like he really hustles every time he is on the ice. Looked pretty solid defensively and on faceoffs. Had a nice goal set up by Schmaltz. Honestly there's been some really nice passes from Schmaltz to Matthews so it looks like there is a bit of chemistry between the two. I just hope that's not wishful thinking. Quote
AZSIOUX Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 @McCarthyOTB: 96 D Gabe Bast (Penticton) commits to North Dakota, has impressed me every viewing, great puck moving ability and awareness. @CallMeGabey: Excited to announce my commitment to @UNDmhockey thanks to everyone who helped me get here. #sioux Also @OTBPuckWatch: 97 G Matej Tomek (@topekahockey) commits to North Dakota. So far this season, he leads the NAHL with a 1.42 goals against average, and is second in the league with a .940 save percentage. Quote

jjensen Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Bigger than getting Zane? I think I saw somewhere he was projected in the top 3 or 4 rounds. I would say on par or slightly above. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Why isn't he in the USHL? Or is he going to be after this year? Quote
brianvf Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Couple great pickups there! Good recruiting day. Wonder why Hakstol hasn't announced the Matthews/Boeser combo yet? Probably just waiting until after USA wins gold in WJC so as not to distract Matthews. Sounds about right. Also good to see Rowe commit to ASU. May see him again should ASU join the NCHC. Quote
cberkas Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Why isn't he in the USHL? Or is he going to be after this year? I think he should be in the USHL, he is only 18 so he could go there next year. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Rowe going to ASU signals something may be afoot with UND's recruits at forward but I'm not going to go with the irrational exuberance* quite yet. * © Alan Greenspan circa 1990 Quote

I would say on par or slightly above. http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/2014/9/25/6843943/getting-to-know-matej-tomek This article suggests he could go early as far as goalies go, but we've seen guys highly regarded that don't always perform in college. scpa0305 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I think he should be in the USHL, he is only 18 so he could go there next year. Sounds like he had some fellow countrymen that played in Topeka with him. I'm guessing he comes in next year. Quote

cberkas Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Oh, I thought he was 18 too. Maybe he doesn't come in next year Hoping UND can get Jiri Fronk here too, but he'd come in next year if he came here. Quote
ChetSteadman Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Who is Bast? Haven't heard of him before? Nice Goalie pickup though! Quote
SiouxScore Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 In this article http://topekaroadrunners.pointstreaksites.com/view/topekaroadrunners/news/news_259029 it says Tomek will come in next year and he turned 17 in May. My guess is if Zane goes pro he comes in and if Zane decides to stay we may try to have him play another year of juniors. Quote
