Visited BU as well. It’s possible Minnesota hadn’t offered yet, given their current commits, but I’m not sure I believe all their fans who claim they weren’t interested at all

I'd believe it, Minnesota isn't a fan of playing much defense. He's not flashy enough to join the team 8 games below .500.

Now that you say his name I think I've asked that same question here before and got that answer then.  Crazy that this kid went from JV to Varsity to NTDP in roughly 16 months.

Bantam age kids play JV at HM…unless good enough for varsity. Many HM 8th graders play JV. Weird deal if you ask me.

They've been using that same tired old line for decades everytime they lose a prospect to another school. I don't even pay attention to that nonsense anymore.

Everything else aside, I am very glad to be getting a commitment from not only a USNTDP kid, but one from the Twin Cities. That's a player type that we have not had much success with in recent years, so I think it's big to tap back into both of those pipelines

Kinda seemed inevitable unfortunately.

Neither him or UND had a clue that the CHL was opening up when he committed.

At least this wasn’t a Maine case where we were intentionally over-recruiting

The positive part of this is it likely means we have a CHL commit waiting for the season to end to announce, or a players agent made clear a stud will be entering the portal, like Potter.  Don’t know if I would like the character of that player if they did it before their season ended though.

Wonder if it's a Cole Spicer situation where the staff asked him to wait another year and he said no thanks

Would guess that’s the case, as he already has played two years of juniors after high school and didn’t want to play 3 with other options.

He's aging out of juniors so that is not the case.

I thought you could start a season in the USHL if you were 20, but not 21?

I think you can play as long as you aren't 21 before Dec. 31 of that year. So he would be able to play another year of juniors if he wanted to

Yep, 05s this is their last year, next year is 06s. But in the CHL/USHL leagues it’s tougher as they limit the 20 year olds to 3-4 I believe. NAHL is wide open I believe.

Yeah you're right, looks like you can only have five 20 year olds per team

…and certainly they would use one of them on their leading scorer.

I'm honestly not surprised, with the CHL opening up I think you may see a few more that won't be on the list by the end of the year...

Not entirely surprising with how many of the older forward commits aren't producing a ton in the USHL outside of Simpson.
BSchultz was the only one that has to come in, but with the CHL player pool, it's gonna make these NCAA roster spots harder to get.

Good luck to him, would rather see him at Mankato or similar rather than scoring on us if he goes UMD/SCSU.  ;)

Cue the we didn’t want him peple

I'm guessing we wanted him still, but requested him to spend another year in juniors, which he could use to elevate his game.
As someone mentioned previously...similar to the Spicer situation.

I mean, if that final forward roster spot is between Pilgrim and Mathis Preston...who would we rather have?  ;)
