Godsmack Posted Thursday at 01:01 PM Posted Thursday at 01:01 PM Anyone hear about Mike Commodore’s Twitter post regarding the Oilers development camp and the organization’s subsequent cease and desist order email (email, not formal hard copy letter) they sent him? Some say Commie lets Babcock live rent free in his brain but it seems the Oilers organization is letting Commie live rent free in theirs. Quote

Commie has a legit axe to grind with Babcock and will never let it go. What surprises me is how the NHL has different rules/standards for coaches and players. Babcock has been a bully his whole adult career and the NHL looks the other way but Mitchell Miller can't play in the NHL because of something he did as an adolescent. 4 2 Quote

I don’t have any sympathy for the Miller kid but I totally get your point on the complete double standard with how the NHL treats people based on their standing and position. Babs is a certifiable scumbag and there’s a litany of examples out there on the internet to prove it. 3 Quote

Both crimes seem pretty similar but the punishments are far from equal. Quote

The Speeza Madano benching for milestone games, The Marner thing about ranking teammates, he was literally fired for being a scumbag like a month into his last job. And thats without a beef from Commie, and hes not alone by far in the criticism. I think Edmonton hired him to have an evil scapegoat for not getting it done the next 3-4 years Quote

Johan Franzen publicly called Babcock the worst human being he’s ever met. Years of manipulation and mind games he says led to having PTSD. Benching Jason Spezza in the Maple Leafs home opener with several of Spezza’s family in attendance to see his return home to Toronto. Healthy scratching Mike Modano in what would’ve been his 1,500th NHL game. He retired at 1,499 games. A hall of famer. Going through players’ phones in Columbus. Babs got sacked before ever getting through training camp. Benching Chris Chelios at an outdoor game in Chicago. Mitch Marner situation his rookie year. Being forced to rank his teammates and then Babs reading the list out loud in the locker room. To Marner’s credit, he ranked himself last. Mike Commodore has been on record many times of the treatment he claims he received from Babcock in Anaheim and Detroit. Not as serious as some of the examples listed above but just more examples of Babs’ behavior. Paul Bissonette and Ryan Whitney have also publicly called Babcock out for his treatment of players over the years. 2 1 Quote
atxsioux Posted yesterday at 01:14 PM Posted yesterday at 01:14 PM Will be fascinating to watch how it goes for Edmonton this year + next year If it completely blows up in the next 2 years and if Babcock is a large reason why I would guess at that point McDavid will ask to be shipped out. (ironically a lot of the blame would be on McDavid for being among the players to help bring Babcock there in the first place) Quote

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but from my experience attending and living in a city with an ECHL team, you are far less likely to make the NHL if you are in the ECHL in comparison to the AHL which is the next step. Players here have a better chance to make the NHL, mostly because they are more skilled. Again I could be wrong, but this is my interpretation of it Quote
The Sicatoka Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago The AHL is treated like AAA baseball; the ECHL is AA. Quote
atxsioux Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Thing to note with goalies is there are just less spots in an organization teams will drop their prospect goalies down from the AHL to the ECHL if they aren’t playing enough in the AHL just to get the players some reps. Quote

I think this is a little bit of a stretch, but does correlate slightly. It is like AA, but players are far less likely to be brought up to the NHL, with a few going to the AHL for short periods. The exception is goalie. There are some (See Aaron Dell as an example) that will get a chance just due to the fewer options a NHL Team has with their goalies. I do live in an ECHL town, and have watched forwards and defensemen go up to the AHL and back down, but few ever suit up for their NHL team. Quote
southpaw Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago 2 hours ago, The Sicatoka said: The AHL is treated like AAA baseball; the ECHL is AA. Not really. Drafted mlb players usually make their way from rookie ball to single a, then double a, AAA, then the majors - nearly universally regardless of their draft position. You don't send a highly drafted nhl player to the echl unless they're a goalie and that's solely so they can play, not because of skill level. Mlb doesn't have the CHL or NCAA where they can develop a draft pick so they can jump to the nhl or ahl at a minimum. 1 Quote
