  1. Most of SR is in South Dakota. The NCAA wants approval from SR, not Sioux County (the portion of SR in North Dakota). Is it fair?? No. Does the NCAA care?? No. The NCAA wants official word from the SR Tribal Council on the approval of the name. Even if the vote in Sioux County is in favor of the name, the SR Tribal Council doesn't appear willing to extend such approval.
  2. UNDBIZ

    Think Big

I can almost guarantee it won't say Sioux. When they made the renovations to the outside of the Alerus there was talk of Sioux logos, but the council decided that would be a dumb waste of money as the name MIGHT not be around. I'd assume the same thought would be applied here.
  3. I forgot Ralph Engelstad never went to UND and made his billions working for minimum wage in Grand Forks....
  4. Ah k, I guess I confused the 2 of them..... hard to do, I know.
  5. Weren't you the one hoping for an AHL team called the Sioux??
  6. I'm counting 11 games without USD, are we losing the South Dakota State or Montana games??
  7. A guy who is a fan of both the Sioux and the Gophers is trying to tell the rest of us what a real fan is....
  8. Ah yes, because if the nickname is removed then Pres. Kelley is going to come to your house and take your sioux gear away
  9. Don't worry, there are plenty of other forms of aid available for those "student athletes"
  10. You don't seem to understand that the NC$$ doesn't care. The NC$$ will be just fine when UND athletics is suffering under sanctions.
  11. So he wasn't comparing the loss of a nickname to rape??
  12. All I noticed in my summers in Grand Forks (both growing up and while in college) was the town emptied out and the waitresses got a lot uglier....
  13. And you're attempting to compare that to rape....
  14. You're comparing the loss of a nickname to rape. Your position is flawed...
  15. You dislike people just because they're UND alums?? Please become a "fan" of a different team and go bother them, UND doesn't want you.
  16. I understand that you can't comprehend how the sanctions will affect UND. You, and people like you, are going to be the reason for the death of the UND athletics program. As a UND fan and alum, I have a major problem with that, so you'll have to forgive me if I come across as bitter and full of resentment.
  17. The ballot should state a no vote means sanctions for UND, whereas a yes vote frees UND to become a successful D1 program.
  18. The NC$$ has shown time and again they have no problem sanctioning one school/state one way and another school/state in a completely different way. Just because that's how the statewide sanctions were implemented for SC doesn't mean that's how they would be for ND.
  19. The mods on this site care about UND, so it's understandable their opinions are going to be at odds with the nickname at all costs crowd.
  20. That's entirely possible. I must admit I didn't go back and check old threads. I guess I can safely say I know many people who supported Carlson's bill at the time who now support retirement of the name. Edit: Ah now that I read your post again I think I misread it the first time. In terms of whether UND could lose its D1 status or have it postponed, I would guess it's possible but I really don't know.
  21. I'd agree at that time there was more support. However, after the NC$$ told big Al to f!$# off, the majority of SiouxSports supported the retirement to save UND.
  22. The intent doesn't matter, the result does. In regards to the NDSU folks not being educated on the extent of the sanctions, I see the expansion of the sanctions to include our sister to the south as a great method of educating them. Again however, I see little to no chance of the NCAA expanding the sanctions to Moo U.
  23. But hurting UND is exactly what they would be doing if they vote to keep the law. By threatening sanctions against the entire state, it allows the Bison faithful to understand how bad the sanctions would actually be. If this was the case, I doubt any of them would stick to their guns and vote to keep the name because "they think the NCAA is wrong."
