  1. I'll lay down the facts for you. The NCAA has placed UND under sanctions for keeping the Sioux name. Sanctions include not being able to host NCAA playoff games and not being able to wear any Sioux jerseys/articles of clothing during the NCAA playoff games. Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin have all stated they will not schedule games/meets against UND as long as it is on the NCAA sanctions list. SL has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA. Said lawsuit was poorly written (inlcluded many spelling/grammatical errors), which alludes to how much effort Soderstrom (SL's attorney in this case) put into it. Why he put so little effort into the lawsuit filing is up for debate (many would say it's because he doesn't plan on winning anyway). Coaches from UND and other universities against whom we compete for athletic recruits have issued statements detailing the struggles UND has faced in recruiting battles with the impending sanctions on the horizon. You also refer to me as biased and PC. I love the nickname and I wish the NC$$ had not adopted such an idiotic policy. However, UND must play by the NCAA's rules if it wants to be a successful program. I care more about UND's success than a nickname and logo. If you feel that makes me PC, then I'd say you don't know what PC means, but I digress...
  2. First: Is there anything in the NCAA bylaws preventing them from censoring what a team calls itself?? Second: You seem to be confusing NCAA bylaws with actual laws. Not following bylaws is a failure to follow internal policy, however, there is nothing illegal about it.
  3. Thank you!! I know we'll never be able to convince the DaveK's of the world. But I feel we must continue to post reponses proving them wrong in case a casual fan visits this site and takes their posts as fact...
  4. You really don't know anything about law do you??? First Lesson: Just because something isn't right, doesn't necessarily make it illegal. The NCAA has many lawyers who are all much smarter than reed soderstrom. SL has little to no chance at winning their lawsuit. At best, they come away with some money in a settlement the NC$$ agrees to to save them the effort (however little it would take) to win in court.
  5. So now you decide what a sovereign nation has the legal right to do regarding the recognition of a ceremony from 40 years ago?? Just because culture and history indicate the council must accept the ceremony doesn't mean the law requires it. Here again I wish you were right, but you're not....
  6. An easy thing to say when you have no stake in the matter. When the NC$$ hits back it won't be you that gets hurt, it will be UND and its fans.
  7. delusional....
  8. I'm sure UND and the NC$$ will grieve the loss of such a dedicated fan
  9. What's especially disappointing for me is I think Nelson could've been a serious contender for the Hobey next year (I don't think he has any run-ins with the law). An extra off-season on UND's weight-training program in UND's world-class facilities could've done wonders for him....
  10. And that will still accomplish nothing..... I'm fairly certain hardly any of the Pro-UND crowd believes the nickname is "Hostile & Abusive," however, that isn't really even the question anymore. The question is whether keeping the name and suffering the NC$$ sanctions will cause harm to UND. With the negatives in scheduling and recruiting, it is apparent the sanctions are already beginning to have their desired effect.
  11. I hope you're right Dave, unfortunately I know you're wrong. If you don't think home-field advantage is important for the success of the football team, then you don't know anything about football...
  12. I was referring to the future need of having another supreme court filing on the same case with multiple $300 lawyers along with their $175 assistants.
  13. How else is the state supposed to use up that $1 billion surplus?? More frivolous spending is needed....
  14. It would appear so. In this case it's a dangerous decision for the home team....
  15. I think people are basing their opinions on the fact Nelson wasn't nearly as dominant as Frattin, Oshie, and Zajac, much less Toews and Parise. I feel their opinions are justified, as he is not strong enough yet (Forbort and Kristo are also not powerful enough with the puck, in my opinion) for the NHL. 1 more year with UND would be great (would have been great) for all 3 of them. Perhaps he will prove us wrong.... only time will tell. Regardless, good luck to him as he pursues his future career.
  16. This article would support that http://missoulian.com/news/local/um-attorney-cautions-against-helping-student-athletes-find-legal-help/article_f42a26b0-747b-11e1-a2f6-0019bb2963f4.html?mode=story
  17. I wonder if it had anything to do with this incident: http://missoulian.com/news/state-and-regional/griz-qb-allowed-back-at-practice-by-legal-misunderstanding-says/article_ececa6dc-7950-11e1-bdb8-0019bb2963f4.html Montana may be following the UND principle of fire/expel first, ask questions later

  19. That building will be empty... doesn't matter which teams are playing.
  20. There aren't any.....
  21. especially now that they're up 2
  22. if they're going to waive the goal, they should call the delay of game penalty....
  23. absolutely terrible call on waiving off the goal (IMO)
  24. I agree that UND hockey may be approching a crossroads, where things could take a dramatic turn. However, I'd attribute it almost entirely to the conference change. Losing Minnesota and Wisconsin and not getting Notre Dame (not that any of it was UND's fault) could prove very damaging. Regardless of what we like to think of UND's superiority, we are still a school with less national recognition (beyond hockey at least).
