And you're attempting to compare that to rape....
-
You're comparing the loss of a nickname to rape. Your position is flawed...
-
You dislike people just because they're UND alums?? Please become a "fan" of a different team and go bother them, UND doesn't want you.
-
I understand that you can't comprehend how the sanctions will affect UND. You, and people like you, are going to be the reason for the death of the UND athletics program. As a UND fan and alum, I have a major problem with that, so you'll have to forgive me if I come across as bitter and full of resentment.
-
The ballot should state a no vote means sanctions for UND, whereas a yes vote frees UND to become a successful D1 program.
-
The NC$$ has shown time and again they have no problem sanctioning one school/state one way and another school/state in a completely different way. Just because that's how the statewide sanctions were implemented for SC doesn't mean that's how they would be for ND.
-
The mods on this site care about UND, so it's understandable their opinions are going to be at odds with the nickname at all costs crowd.

sick burn

That's entirely possible. I must admit I didn't go back and check old threads. I guess I can safely say I know many people who supported Carlson's bill at the time who now support retirement of the name. Edit: Ah now that I read your post again I think I misread it the first time. In terms of whether UND could lose its D1 status or have it postponed, I would guess it's possible but I really don't know.
-
I'd agree at that time there was more support. However, after the NC$$ told big Al to f!$# off, the majority of SiouxSports supported the retirement to save UND.
-
The intent doesn't matter, the result does. In regards to the NDSU folks not being educated on the extent of the sanctions, I see the expansion of the sanctions to include our sister to the south as a great method of educating them. Again however, I see little to no chance of the NCAA expanding the sanctions to Moo U.
-
But hurting UND is exactly what they would be doing if they vote to keep the law. By threatening sanctions against the entire state, it allows the Bison faithful to understand how bad the sanctions would actually be. If this was the case, I doubt any of them would stick to their guns and vote to keep the name because "they think the NCAA is wrong."
-
I believe this is what we (UND fans) are hoping for (not for NDSU to be sanctioned, but for their fans to vote down the law).
-
I don't think they can advocate for or against the law. However, spreading some facts (without mentioning the law) would appear reasonable

Darell has been a supporter of UND rather than the nickname as far as I can remember. But if not allowing him to vote (due to not being an alum) means other non-alumni couldn't vote, it would be well worth it (sorry Darell). There are a lot more people who never attended a class at UND who are going to vote to keep the name than those non-alums who are educated enough regarding the situation to know to vote for the retirement of the name. Unfortunately, it's all a moot point because the vote would never be restricted in such a way.
-
Nobody trusts him. It has to be the coaches (including Hakstol) and the players.
-
Perhaps the vote should be restricted to only include UND alumni
-
Exactly, then we wouldn't have to worry about the nickname at all costs crowd winning the vote. Note: I don't believe there is even a remote possibility of the NC$$ punishing Moo U in this situation
-
Politics is all about rhetoric and posturing. Regardless of whether they would agree with UND's decision to ignore the law, the fact UND didn't respect the legislature's authority would result in a lot of anger, especially in the House. King Al makes the rules there and what he says, goes.
-
Even though he got his a$$ handed to him, I'm sure it got him some extra credit points with his teammates...
-
I've also wondered about this. The fact that King Al's law has no teeth leads me to believe UND could officially drop the name and just tell the state to !%$# off, however it would be a poor move politically and would likely result in a sharp decrease in state appropriations (which UND and every other public school need).
-
I believe there has been speculation on this before.... Although their view on this matter is similar, I believe DaveK's posts are much more erratic and nonsensical than Rob Port's.
-
The sanctions are not illegal. This has already been explained to you on another thread...
-
I'll lay down the facts for you. The NCAA has placed UND under sanctions for keeping the Sioux name. Sanctions include not being able to host NCAA playoff games and not being able to wear any Sioux jerseys/articles of clothing during the NCAA playoff games. Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin have all stated they will not schedule games/meets against UND as long as it is on the NCAA sanctions list. SL has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA. Said lawsuit was poorly written (inlcluded many spelling/grammatical errors), which alludes to how much effort Soderstrom (SL's attorney in this case) put into it. Why he put so little effort into the lawsuit filing is up for debate (many would say it's because he doesn't plan on winning anyway). Coaches from UND and other universities against whom we compete for athletic recruits have issued statements detailing the struggles UND has faced in recruiting battles with the impending sanctions on the horizon. You also refer to me as biased and PC. I love the nickname and I wish the NC$$ had not adopted such an idiotic policy. However, UND must play by the NCAA's rules if it wants to be a successful program. I care more about UND's success than a nickname and logo. If you feel that makes me PC, then I'd say you don't know what PC means, but I digress...
