  1. The intent doesn't matter, the result does. In regards to the NDSU folks not being educated on the extent of the sanctions, I see the expansion of the sanctions to include our sister to the south as a great method of educating them. Again however, I see little to no chance of the NCAA expanding the sanctions to Moo U.
  2. But hurting UND is exactly what they would be doing if they vote to keep the law. By threatening sanctions against the entire state, it allows the Bison faithful to understand how bad the sanctions would actually be. If this was the case, I doubt any of them would stick to their guns and vote to keep the name because "they think the NCAA is wrong."
  3. I believe this is what we (UND fans) are hoping for (not for NDSU to be sanctioned, but for their fans to vote down the law).
  4. I don't think they can advocate for or against the law. However, spreading some facts (without mentioning the law) would appear reasonable
  5. Darell has been a supporter of UND rather than the nickname as far as I can remember. But if not allowing him to vote (due to not being an alum) means other non-alumni couldn't vote, it would be well worth it (sorry Darell). There are a lot more people who never attended a class at UND who are going to vote to keep the name than those non-alums who are educated enough regarding the situation to know to vote for the retirement of the name. Unfortunately, it's all a moot point because the vote would never be restricted in such a way.
  6. Nobody trusts him. It has to be the coaches (including Hakstol) and the players.
  7. Perhaps the vote should be restricted to only include UND alumni
  8. Exactly, then we wouldn't have to worry about the nickname at all costs crowd winning the vote. Note: I don't believe there is even a remote possibility of the NC$$ punishing Moo U in this situation
  9. Politics is all about rhetoric and posturing. Regardless of whether they would agree with UND's decision to ignore the law, the fact UND didn't respect the legislature's authority would result in a lot of anger, especially in the House. King Al makes the rules there and what he says, goes.
  10. Even though he got his a$$ handed to him, I'm sure it got him some extra credit points with his teammates...
  11. I've also wondered about this. The fact that King Al's law has no teeth leads me to believe UND could officially drop the name and just tell the state to !%$# off, however it would be a poor move politically and would likely result in a sharp decrease in state appropriations (which UND and every other public school need).
  12. I believe there has been speculation on this before.... Although their view on this matter is similar, I believe DaveK's posts are much more erratic and nonsensical than Rob Port's.
  13. The sanctions are not illegal. This has already been explained to you on another thread...
  14. I'll lay down the facts for you. The NCAA has placed UND under sanctions for keeping the Sioux name. Sanctions include not being able to host NCAA playoff games and not being able to wear any Sioux jerseys/articles of clothing during the NCAA playoff games. Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin have all stated they will not schedule games/meets against UND as long as it is on the NCAA sanctions list. SL has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA. Said lawsuit was poorly written (inlcluded many spelling/grammatical errors), which alludes to how much effort Soderstrom (SL's attorney in this case) put into it. Why he put so little effort into the lawsuit filing is up for debate (many would say it's because he doesn't plan on winning anyway). Coaches from UND and other universities against whom we compete for athletic recruits have issued statements detailing the struggles UND has faced in recruiting battles with the impending sanctions on the horizon. You also refer to me as biased and PC. I love the nickname and I wish the NC$$ had not adopted such an idiotic policy. However, UND must play by the NCAA's rules if it wants to be a successful program. I care more about UND's success than a nickname and logo. If you feel that makes me PC, then I'd say you don't know what PC means, but I digress...
  15. First: Is there anything in the NCAA bylaws preventing them from censoring what a team calls itself?? Second: You seem to be confusing NCAA bylaws with actual laws. Not following bylaws is a failure to follow internal policy, however, there is nothing illegal about it.
  16. Thank you!! I know we'll never be able to convince the DaveK's of the world. But I feel we must continue to post reponses proving them wrong in case a casual fan visits this site and takes their posts as fact...
  17. You really don't know anything about law do you??? First Lesson: Just because something isn't right, doesn't necessarily make it illegal. The NCAA has many lawyers who are all much smarter than reed soderstrom. SL has little to no chance at winning their lawsuit. At best, they come away with some money in a settlement the NC$$ agrees to to save them the effort (however little it would take) to win in court.
  18. So now you decide what a sovereign nation has the legal right to do regarding the recognition of a ceremony from 40 years ago?? Just because culture and history indicate the council must accept the ceremony doesn't mean the law requires it. Here again I wish you were right, but you're not....
  19. An easy thing to say when you have no stake in the matter. When the NC$$ hits back it won't be you that gets hurt, it will be UND and its fans.
  20. I'm sure UND and the NC$$ will grieve the loss of such a dedicated fan
  21. What's especially disappointing for me is I think Nelson could've been a serious contender for the Hobey next year (I don't think he has any run-ins with the law). An extra off-season on UND's weight-training program in UND's world-class facilities could've done wonders for him....
  22. And that will still accomplish nothing..... I'm fairly certain hardly any of the Pro-UND crowd believes the nickname is "Hostile & Abusive," however, that isn't really even the question anymore. The question is whether keeping the name and suffering the NC$$ sanctions will cause harm to UND. With the negatives in scheduling and recruiting, it is apparent the sanctions are already beginning to have their desired effect.
