  1. NHL 94 is even better, you can create your own players.
  2. Defending him? I just don't think calling him a "moron" is the right move. If anything, it gives him what he wants.....a reaction. And I don't mind gfhockey even if I don't always agree with his posts. If everyone on here was the same, it would be a boring place to post.
  3. I think you called gfhockey a moron either in this thread or a different one (and he does get on people's nerves from time to time). No hard feelings, in the end, we all support the same team (except for the FU and Rodent trolls).
  4. First of all, someone that likes to call other people "morons" shouldn't complain about my "condescending tone". Second of all, I have never called for Hakstol's head, but I do have serious doubts that we will win a "natty" under his watch. And lastly, a lot of people on this forum have put forth many statistics and analysis of what might not be working for us in April. I would call that "constructive" (not including gfhockey's irreverant viewpoints). Our fans are a little smarter than you give them credit for. If you don't agree with it, that is fine, but don't scold and preach from your perch about how right you are and how wrong we are. This whole issue is complicated and has many different angles to it. End rant.
  5. I cannot speak to that point because I didn't hear him say it. But it might have happened. I don't have time to search right now, but maybe someone can Google Nick Saban and find out?
  6. So is college basketball. And college football. And the NFL for that matter. I don't hear the "one and done" excuse used in those sports. So why are we using it?
  7. Okay, let me explain this to you because you don't get it. A fan forum like this is where people vent their frustrations over whatever. Maybe you think it shouldn't be that, but that is what it is. So the last thing the players and coaches should do is read this forum after a tough loss because they won't like what they read. I know if I was a coach or player on the team I wouldn't read this forum.
  8. Players and coaches shouldn't read fan forums at all, period. There is nothing to be gained from doing that.
  9. "Puck Luck" and "Hot Goalies" haven't stopped Boston College from winning 4 titles in a span of 15 years. This is about getting it done when it counts and this program just hasn't done that. That doesn't mean we won't the next couple of years, but you just don't know how many Frozen Four trips you will get. That is what makes these failures so hard to swallow.
  10. They still put 30+ shots on goal and they weren't shy about attacking Omaha in their D-zone.
  11. Didn't some of the people in BRIDGES and other anti-nickname groups say that the nickname and logo were at least in-part responsible for the problems on reservations? These are the problems they should focus on, not a sports team's name and logo.
  12. Hmmmm, that sounds like our 1990's teams. And, IIRC, they did pretty doggone well against teams with more NHL draft picks. And now we are the team getting beat by today's Eastern teams. Ironic.....don't you think?
  13. I have never personally felt unsafe in Winnipeg, but I don't doubt the statistics.
  14. You totally missed my main point. The one common denominator the past 11 years is Hakstol. The players come and go, even some of the assistants have come and gone, but the CEO, the boss, is the same. This is his baby, for better or worse.
  15. ROFL, I like to be thorough! But yeah, I do get a little long-winded!
  16. Well, Bob Babich was fired after a 2-8 season, but Rocky's "down season" was 6-4 in 1996. Which once again illustrates the difference between the two schools in standards and what constitutes "excellence" in athletics.
  17. You are right, it is 4 titles and not 5. My bad, next time I will look it up first. As for the rest of your post, the players do what they are told by the coaches. Hakstol likes his players to play certain systems, which I think sometimes limits their creativity. Once you get to this point in the season, you need all cylinders firing to win. Our lack of goal scoring in some of these games is a problem and at least some of that can be blamed on Hakstol's "Baseline" B.S. You cannot expect your goalie to shut everybody out all the time, so you better be able to "put the biscuit in the basket", as it were. Also, as I have said before, once you get into March and April, the differences between the teams in terms of talent levels gets narrower and narrower. That is where coaching, strategy and preparation come into play. Now, I don't know if this was the main factor on Thursday, but I think it was during some previous failed Frozen Four appearances and that is why some people are so frustrated right now. It isn't just what happened on Thursday, it's the cumulative effect of a 1-6 Frozen Four record over the past 11 years. And finally, when you are the CEO of an organization (as Hakstol is), the buck stops with you. Not the captain of the team. Not your assistants (something Denny Green never figured out). You. That is why in collegiate (and more so in professional) sports, you don't get rid of all the players (that would make you an expansion team), you get rid of the coach and/or the G.M. Hakstol is the only common denominator during the past 11 years, so he will get criticized when the team fails. And I think he understands that it goes with the territory. Too bad some of our fans don't understand it.
  18. I have always thought this as well. I don't see why this couldn't be done. And we are supposed to use the old logo to maintain copyright control over it, so that is another good reason. Also, all these photos of the Old Ralph make me nostalgic all over again!
  19. Yeah and Rocky Hager and Bob Babich paid the price for that.
  20. So you are going to pooh-pooh what the Bison did at the same exact level that UND is at for football? Oh, that's right, if it isn't hockey, it doesn't matter.
  21. Here we go with the "hot goalie" excuse again. Most of our shots were from the outside and we didn't have a lot of traffic in front of the net. At this level, that isn't going to score a lot of goals for you. Unless I was in net. And of course, we didn't crash the net because in Hakstol's beloved "baseline defensive system", that is just too reckless. UMD got the job done two nights later. 'Nuff said.
  22. I am calling Red Herring and Straw Man on this post. At their respective levels of competition, NDSU football has established a dynasty and UND hockey has become a wanna-be.
