Wonder if this will stir up a hornet's nest of trolls.....

It seemed like a lot of people were obsessed with geography and weren't talking enough about the issues you talked about in this post. Bus leagues are almost a thing of the past across the board, so I think we need to focus on those other issues.

Well, I still subscribe to the Grand Forks Heraldo, but I do most of my manuscript searches for work on the computer using Google Scholar and PubMed. I don't know if I remember how to use a card catalog, I think it's been about 20 years since I have used one.

And that helps UND how?

Memorial Stadium didn't.

If geography was as important as everyone thinks it is, all the Dakota schools would still be Division 2 and the NCC wouldn't have folded. Having said that, I think FBS is a fools errand for all four Dakota schools. NDSU won't always be this dominant in FCS and would struggle if their whole schedule were FBS teams from year to year. FCS is where the Dakotas belong.

We did this in 2001 (the first season in the Alerus Center) and it worked out pretty well.

And what was it we are measuring again.....I can't quite remember. Honestly, I take measurements like this with a big block of salt. You cannot quantify something as qualitative as higher education.

Over time, it will become more of an issue. It happened with the men's program in the 1980's and 90's and it eventually caught up with them. This year's runner-up finish is the law of averages kicking in, but it's possible the players subconsciously started thinking it was in the bag and that might have been a factor in the loss. Btw, I wonder if they'll put a mural of their "Runner-Up" finish next to their championship murals?

I hear you; I just think there will be a huge backlash from the FB boosters if that ever happens (or is even discussed).
-
If Gene Taylor even hinted at paying the MBB coach more than the FB coach, Bisonville would melt down with indignation. I just don't see that happening at FU.

NCAA TOURNEY - SIOUX vs. BADGERS - Cincinnati
fightingsioux4life replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
I believe that was 2006, the same year St. Cloud and Minnesota had their epic semifinal game; 8-7 St. Cloud in OT. Then we beat a tired St. Cloud team for the title on Saturday night. -
ROFL, I guess so. I could use a partner in this very important endeavor!

Hey, that's MY job around here!

At least this time the Gophers didn't have enough fans to "drown out" Clarkson's celebration. Too much success breads arrogance and complacency and that is happening with the Gopher women's program.

Well NCAA snobs, you got your wish. You got rid of Wichita State by putting them in a loaded bracket (and don't think for a minute that was somehow unintentional or coincidental). Arizona didn't get that treatment. Neither did Florida. Heck, even Virginia didn't get that treatment. But I guess it's all about television ratings and keeping the Final Four a private club for the "big time" conference teams. I guess having Wichita in the Final Four last year and having Butler in back to back national title games was making the big boys just a little nervous. If they are so desperate to protect the big boys, they should split the FBS conference schools from the non-FBS conference schools and give each group a 32 team tournament of their own. Then they can showcase the "big boys" on CBS, TBS, TruTV and TNT and ignore the Hickory Stick U's of the world. Personally, I think that would kill March Madness forever, but don't put it past them.

Going FBS in FB would be a huge mistake, as some other schools have found out. If we just stick with what we have, we'll be fine in the long run.
-
FU is in the same boat and I think they are more than happy with what the MBB team has done this year. We'll have to focus on FB, MH and WH for our national championships. Of these, FU has only FB, so we have that going for us...which is nice!!!

Final Score Texas A&M: 70 North Dakota: 55 A very good first showing at the Division I level. I have a feeling we are going to be doing this again soon.
-
65-53 1:40 left in 2nd half. All I can think about now is all those missed lay-ups earlier in the game. Argh!
-
It's a definite trade-off. But how many people would still care about our teams if we had stayed in Division 2 and joined the NSIC? If you think we are invisible compared to FU now, that would have been 10 times worse. And SDSU has proved over the years that mid-major schools like us can win games in the D-I Women's Tournament, not just keep it close for one half. Remember, we will get better players and better athletes from here on out as a full-fledged Division I program in the Big Sky Conference. The best is yet to come.
-
Oh, for crying out loud! How many lay-ups are we going to miss? If we would have hit even half of our missed lay-ups, we'd be down 10 instead of 20 points.
-
Well, it was fun while it lasted. We hung around in the first half with some players left over from the transition period, which isn't too bad. If we can have more success in the Big Sky, we'll get better players and the next time we get into this tournament, we might hang around for the whole game (and maybe even pull off a first-round upset). The future looks bright for the WBB team.

It's on now.

I am getting really tired of the disrespect from the NCAA to ESPN. First we get introduced as the "Lady Griz", now this?!?! I couldn't care less about freaking Iowa and Marist.
