  1. The last time the Wild came to the Ralph to play an exibition game, there were only like 6000 fans there. That is an NHL team playing in our town. The highest tier hockey you can see. And, people in Grand Forks barely supported it. People in Grand Forks can say that they support all hockey, but in reality it is only UND hockey. Just look at the High School hockey tournament. When Red River was playing Grafton in the semi finals how many people were at that game....like 1500?? This town is a UND hockey town. Any other team would be second fiddle.
  2. You are a fan of a name and logo, not a fan of the University of North Dakota. I get how you feel. You don't want the teams to be known by any other name. But there comes a point where you have to let your selfish desires not blind you by reality. You will take the Sioux team under sanctions, but is that really what is best for the University? Killing our athletic department so you can see your team where a cool looking jersey? Just because you don't want to change, doesn't mean UND shouldn't. Open your eyes!!
  3. You are a fans of the University of North Dakota and you support a law that will destroy the UND athletic department as we know it. Who's the hypocrite??
  4. Well its a good thing that you aren't the ultimate decision maker on the issue. It is plain and simple. Ask yourself if the consequesces to keeping the name are worth it. Any educated person with half a brain would see that it is not. Sorry for assuming that you were one of those educated people. My bad.
  5. I would think Steve Johnson would be someone that would apply for the job. He did before a few years ago when there was an opening. He might be a good option.
  6. Yes!! Great to hear from a student who is ecited about going to UND Football!! You need to get your fellow classmates out to the Alerus next year!! I put the responsibility all on you!!! Ok, just kidding. But I think that there are going to more students like you out there next year. At least I hope. Blackout idea for the Montana game would only be cool it the football team wor black jerseys as well. I am with you...I love this idea as well. Weriously, this could be one of the biggest home games since the Bison were last in town!!
  7. Circumstances change which allow people to change their opinions on certain subjects. Yes, many of us were for keeping the name. But after finding out information about the consequesnces of doing so NOW, we have changed our opinion on the issue based on what is the right thing to do for the athletic department and University.
  8. I don't think any hockey game will overlap with a football game. The Athletic Department wouldn't do that. Plus, I don't think that is going to be a problem. Hockey doesn't start till October anyway. And the latest start time after Oct 1st is 3pm for thje Oct 13th game agaist N. Arizona. That would be the only date where a hockey game would interfere with the football game. I would think that we would not schedule a home hockey game that day.
  9. Yeah seriously. Just tell us. Don't be that guy!!
  10. Well since you won't tell us, I would have to guess it was a very small logo that was on the sticks. Am I close??!!
  11. Dave, you are clearly not a fan of the University of North Dakota. You are a fan of the Fighting Sioux name and logo only. I see your point for fighting for the name. I am right there with you. I was all for suing the NCAA. I was for (at the time) the bill that was passed in the ND house and senate. I love the Fighting Sioux name and all it stands for. But we have come to a point where we have no other options. The sanctions are real and are already affecting recruiting. If we continue to live with the sanctions, other teams will be affected by them. Not being able to host a playoff game is a BIG deal. Getting kicked out if the BIG Sky is a big deal. Do you think another conference is going to want us?? NO!!! The NCAA is not going to go away. If you believe that, you are certifiably insane!! It is time to too what is right for the University. I am a fan of the University of North Dakota. Have been for as long as I can remember. I was all for keeping the name. But the cost of keeping it now would be catastrophic for the University and its athletic department. You need to get educated on the facts.
  12. Here is the letter that UND recieved on Feb 29th after they reinstated the "Fighting Sioux' nickname. Dear Dr. LeBel: President Robert Kelly (sic) recently informed me that the University of North Dakota was resuming its use of the Fighting Sioux nickname and imagery in connection with its athletics program. I noted in my discussion with you and Mr. Brain (sic) Faison that this action by the university means that your athletic programs are subject to the NCAA’s policies concerning participation in NCAA championships. Please allow me to reiterate the limitations that are in effect immediately: 1. No University of North Dakota team may host an NCAA championship round. If a North Dakota team is selected as the lower-seeded team in a championship competition, North Dakota would be designated as the “home” team but would be assigned to play at the higher-seeded institution’s venue. 2. If the university accepts an invitation to participate in any postseason competition, the NCAA policy requires that student-athletes, band, cheerleading, dance and mascot uniforms and paraphernalia not have hostile or abusive racial/ethnic/national original references during the NCAA championship competition. 3. If an invitation is accepted and the university must forfeit competition because it has not adhered to this requirement, the NCAA reserves its right to seek reimbursement for expenses incurred by the Association for travel, per diem or other expenses in connection with the championship. It is the spirit of the NCAA’s championship policy that the competing student-athletes (both North Dakota and its opponents) not be distracted or disrupted during the championship by debates about when and where your institution’s Native American imagery or nickname may be displayed or worn. Therefore, we ask that the university take measures to minimize or eliminate the presence of the imagery or nickname brought to an NCAA championship venue. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Bernard W. Franklin Executive Vice President of Membership and Student-Athlete Affairs/Chief Inclusion Officer __________________________ Just bringing up a couple issues I hade with two points made in this letter. Int point 2 listed above, it says "student-athletes, band, cheerleading, dance and mascot uniforms and paraphernalia not have hostile or abusive racial/ethnic/national original references during the NCAA championship competition." Now, the working is important here. It did not say "native american imageary," it just said referecnces (whether racial, ethnic, notaional origin) that were hostile and abusive. I thought that the settlement agreement took the "hostile and abusive" label off of UND and the Fighting Sioux logo. So could the hockey team have worn their jerseys in the tournament and still adhered to this sanction letter? In pothe final point of the letter, they are asking UND to ask that the university to "take measures to minimize or eliminate the presence of the imagery or nickname brought to an NCAA championship venue." Does this not sound like they want UND to make an effort to get people to not wear Fighting Sioux apparel at NCAA tournament games!! I mean we all knon that the NCAA is already overstepping its authority, but this is rediculous!! It hink this is going to become an issue even if we do retire the name!! Just wondering if anyone else had noticed this.
  13. I realize that usually they don't sell jerseys with players names and numbers on them while they are still in college. But couldn't the sioux shop sell these new jerseys with the number 23? That is a retired number and will never be worn by any UND player ever again. They could at least put @# on the front of the jersey so it doesn't look so weird. Just my opinion.
  14. Then you don't know many NDSU fans!!! There are plenty of NDSU fans that are loving this whole train wreck between UND and the NCAA!! They relish in it!! There is a large group of Bison fans that would love to see UND athletics crumble to the ground. Such a result would only strengthen NDSU's athletic department. Trust me, they are out there.
  15. In a wayI hope they do drop us. That will show the people that their are reprocutions of keeping the name. More and more teams will refuse to play us if we contiue to keep the name. It would hopefully be yet one more concrete example of how people should vote in June. It would not be speculaton or scare tactics. This is real.
  16. Whoever on here posted about the idea of going to back to 2 regioanly sites was on to something. Have an East and West Region, 8 teams at each site. 2 games Thursday, 2 games friday, Thursdays winners play Saturday, and Fridays Winners play Sunday. That way instead of having empty arenas, you could have them in 18000 seat arenas with fans from 8 fanbases there. There will be fans going to just their games, but you will also get fans of other teams that will want to go to the other games as well. College hockey fans love college hockey no matter who is playing. I think that you would have a better total attendance at 2 sites than 4 sites. Plus it would be a great fan experience to have all those fanbases there. I wonder if the NCAA would ever consider going back to that? How many quarter full arenas do they have to see at these arenas before they make a change?!!
  17. I don't think the NCAA would give us a regional if they did go back to campus sited because of the Sioux logo being everywhere at the Ralph. Didn't they say that already that if UND wanted to host playoff game at the Ralph, ALL the native american imagary would have to be covered up? That would be next to impossible to do that!!
  18. I always find it humurous when Bison fans were always mad at Sioux fans for saying that NDSU would never be able to succeed in D1, and that they would never make the playoffs, and there was no chance that they would ever make the NCAA tournament. Now Bison fans are doing the exact same thing they were mad at Sioux fans for doing. I do realize that you are putting some sarcasm in you comment, but there are still those people out there that are being totally hypocritical.
  19. Awesome!! I love em!! Best part is the green helmets and breezers!! Need to go back to that.
  20. And we all know that there was little enthusiasm from the NDSU students that night because as we all know, NDSU is a "Football Only" school. So everything that is not football, students and fans don't really care about
  21. We get it. football is bigger than hockey. NDSU is better than UND. NDSU has better teams, fans, conference, etc. You're the best, we're the worst. How many ways can you word a post in multiple topics to tell everyone that. We get your point!! Agree to disagree and move on.
  22. This just in...Mankato, Augustana, and Morningside are looking to join the Summit!!!! www.thesummitisthenewhomeofthencc.com
  23. Not complaining here. Gophers played great on Sunday and deserve to be in the Frozen 4. Not making excuses for our loss. But saying that the Gophers don't have an advantage playing a regional in St Paul over anyone else who was there is rediculous!! True UND has played more games there recently, but the X is less than 10 miles from Minnesota's campus. Gophers get to practice in their own rink, sleep in their own beds, they have 70% of the fans in the building cheering for them. That is why it is an advantage. Lucia can say all sorts of things about it not being hoe ice advantage....but sorry it is.
  24. But how many trips did you make to Summit cities for sports like basketball? You said you "enjoyed getting in the car to watch some games." Tell us, where in the Summit League did you go? Did you road trip to Fort Wayne, IN? Tulsa, OK? Kansas City, MO? That is what all these Bison fans keep telling us...that the travel in the Summit is so much better and that they are able to go to road games? Well....where have you been?
