POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
Siouxperfan7 replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
Teams gain notority and respect from beating better teams. You think people would even care about Boise State had they not beaten Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl? Do you think that the majority of the country knew who Appalacian State was before they beat Michigan in the Big House? Take NDSU..they weren't a huge FCS powerhouse right away. they were the new kid on the block. But guess what, they beat FBS teams like Central Michagan and Minnesota. Once they did that, they got the respect they were looking for. I am not saying that NDSU playing UND is like Michigan playing Appalacian State. The point I am making is NDSU fans are acting like scheduling UND is like a charity game where we are gaining so much buy it, and NDSU has everything to lose. Minnesota scheduled NDSU 3 times in the past. so did Colorado State this year. Do you think their fanbases were saying "NDSU doesn't deserve to play us. They have more to gain out of this game than we do." Seriously, your "holier than though" attitude that you and other on this site have is sickening! -
POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
Siouxperfan7 replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
"Its almost comical how upset UND fans get when they realize NDSU has moved on from them", "NDSU doesn't care about this game nealry as much as UND does": You say these things, but here you are on a Sioux sports message board talking about it!! And guess what, there are plenty of Bison fans that post on this message board several times EVERY DAY who say that Bison fans have moved on. Actions speak louder than words my friend. And just to let you know, you are in the minority when saying this game shouldn't be played. -
POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
Siouxperfan7 replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
If you werre a Bison fan, wouldn't you be chomping at the bit to play UND? If you are soo pissed off at the fact UND said that the Bison were not going to succeed in D1 and you believe that you are the superior program, wouldn't you want to prove that on the field? Wouldn't you want the Bison to play UND and have a chance to just take it to them and beat them by like 40? If you were a Bison fan, wouldn't you want to hang the score over every UND fans head for 2 years? I just don't understand why Bison fans are coming up with all these reason like financially it won't work, or they don't want to help UND. How bout instead of thinking of all the reasons why NDSU shouldn't play UND and look like a coward, you get excited to kick the snot out of UND!! Because that is exactly what us UND fans are going to want our team to do to you!!! -
POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
Siouxperfan7 replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
That's the problem with a lot of the NDSU fans, students in particular. They were in elementary school when this game was played last. They really have no idea of how great of a game this was year after year. To them playing UNI and SDSU are more important because the are familiar. All of us who grew up seeing this rivarly know how bif this game was for BOTH schools. The "They need this game more than we do" attitude is pathetic. Get off your high horse and come out of the clouds. I have a feeling reality will hit NDSU fans when UND has success in FCS and in the Big Sky. -
However it went down, it is all irrelevant now. Spirit Lake and Standing Rock could have a vote tomorrow and vote 100% to keep the name. The NCAA is not going to change their minds. UND signed a legally binding settlement. The dealdling is up. The ramifications of keeping the name are here. Whatever happened at Standing Rock doesn't matter now.

We all love the Fighting Sioux name and all it has stood for of the University of North Dakota. None of us here want to see the name go. Like 82SiouxGuy said, we have all come to the acceptance that keeping the name would eventually harm the athletic department. Whether it was 2 years ago when the deadline for approval ended, when the law was passed, when the delegation met with the NCAA last summer, whenever: those of us who can see the writing on the wall have accepted the fact that the name must be retired. Is it worth fighting to the end....sure. Dave, Fetch, etc are passionate about their views. I was once there too. I hear ya. But you have to understand that their are penalties and great risks in keeping the name. Not hosting playoff games...thats not a threat. It's reality. If the football team goes undefeated and is the #1 ranked team in the country, they will be playing all their games on the road. Ask NDSU if home field advantage is a big deal!! The Big Sky conference does not absolutely need us. Its not lie we are a longstanding member. We are not even an official member yet. If the Big Sky decides they don;t want us...we are a D1 independent. Then we will have scheduling nightmares. Remember the teams we played in all non hockey sports....that is what our schedules will look like without a conference. These threats are real. If the Big Sky kicks us out because of issues with the name, what conference is going to want to bring that in to their conference. Those are REAL consequences. Recruits are going to be hesitant to play for a school that has the the word SANCTIONS next to it. Recruiting will pay the price. These are real issues that all of us that are voting YES on June 12th have learned and accepted will happen with the continues use of the name. We can always honor the Fighting Sioux name forever. But to do what is good for the University and its athletics, we have to accept that our continued fight is not worth the eventual outcomes. Voting Yes on June 12th does not mean that I am against the Fighting Sioux name. It means that the teams I cheer and the University they represent are more important than my selfish desires to keep the name I have cheered for my entire life.

I have ZERO respect for any NDSU fan who is going to vote NO just to harm the UND athletic department. I am sure there a re many Bison fans who have just loved seeing this all play out and hope that this vote goes through to keep the name. If you are going to vote NO on measure 4 just to see your rival suffer, that is just awful. I would compare it to if UND was playing a game (whether against NDSU or not) and an NDSU fan was cheering for our best athelete on the team to get injured. Now you can always cheer against a team to lose...that's find. But when you cheer for that team to suffer injury, then you are just a heartless fan. I would deffinitely say that is what you are doing here Johnyboy. I never had much respect for you before, but now I have absolutely ZERO respect for you. You can cheer against our school all you want. But to cheer for the destruction of its athletic department just for your amusement and entertainment is dispicaple. Shame on you and your other Bison idiot buddies who feel the same way.

I think the best look would be black jerseys, green pants with a black stripe or something, and green helmets. Still want to keep green in there. It is our primary color. Coming up with a "black out" uniform for big games like Montana and NDSU that has black pants, jerseys, and helmets would be pretty sweet!!

Anyone read this on Siouxinsider blog?? http://siouxfb.areavoices.com/2012/05/14/start-of-summer/ Black Jerseys for all home games!!! Yes!!!!!!! Please be true!!

http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/236628/group/Sports/ The rich get richer!! This team is looking pretty good!!
-
Oh please oh might NDSU, we are just a poor little school who would please like to play you sir. I hope we can prove our worth in the next couple years so we can be deemed a worthy adversary!! Give me a break!!! We have played over a hundred games spanning over a century!! This game was the biggest game on both schedules for years. There is not other FCS opponent that would create as much buzz and excitement than UND. Absolutely none!! But you are right. You would much rather bring in powerhouse teams like Robert Morris and Prairievie A&M. Curios to hear what they have done to prove they deserve to play you? I didn't know the standards were so high to merit a game with NDSU!! The arrogance of some of you Bison fans is rediculous!!! If you are going to have these"el;ite standards" for who you will play or not, you will experience scheduling nighmares because no one will want to play you because you won't do a home and home deal!! Get over yourself and just look at what this game is. It is UND/NDSU!! 110 games we have played each other. A little history there. We can play in any other sport and create a little buzz, but nothing comes close to UND v. NDSU football!!

Well, now wait a second....... http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/361015/group/Sports/

Apparently there are mised feeling about this game on Bville!! Many are saying that scheduling this game is dumb. They list reasons about losing a home game, and not making enough money on it, etc. Seriously...this is UND/NDSU!!! This was the biggest game of the year EVERY YEAR!!! I would think most Bison fans would want this game so they can prove they are better instead of just arguing it on message boards! But I suppose for them it is a lose/lose like the basketball game was this year!!

How bout the new Vikings Stadium!!!
-
This will definitely be the toughest ticket to get in the history on North Dakota sports!! With 12000 season ticket holders at NDSU, 4000 students, that leaves only 1000-2000 tickets available!!! I hope to get my hands on a ticket...but man, its gonna be tough!!! But whether I watch it live or on TV, I will just be happy the game is being played...finally!

The playoff committee looks at D1 wins first. whether we win 77-0, win 6-3, or lose 21-14. It will mean exactly the same in the eyes of the commitee. they loom at D1 games only when determining their playoff field. Either way, it is what it is. We will win by 3+ touchdown and move on to next week. Not to be pesimistic, but I don't see us winning 7 of the remaining 10 games to even be considered as a playoff team. Maybe 4-5.

FBS....25000 seat stadiums? I think the UND needs to focus on competing in the FCS and filling their 11000 seat stadium first. I agree its good to look to the future and look to grow, but the focus NOW needs to be building up a football program that can compete year in and year out for an FCS National Title and can fill the Alerus to near capacity on a regular basis. Make that the focus no and other opportunities can be focused on later when they present themselves.
-
Just because you don't believe something, doesn't mean that its not true. I will agree with you on everything that you say when you can prove to me that you have never been wrong about anything, EVER!!
-
And you have just proved that you only care about Fighting Sioux mens hockey and not any other sport at UND. The sanctions affect the mens hockey team very little. But they affect the other sports a great deal. So while there are a lot of "hockey only" fans out there like you that only care about the fighting sioux hockey jersey, there are more University of North Dakota fans that care more about the entire atheletic department than just one sport.
-
Did you ever think that the issue is one sided maybe because the side that is most expressed is the CORRECT side?? If you have an opinion and the majority of the people believe the opposite to be correct, that doesn't mean that you are being discriminated against for your beliefs. It just means that more likely than not, you are wrong!!
-
Whether we win or lose, it will have no bearing on whether we make the playoffs.
-
Name gets dropped, sactions dropped, Big Sky doesn't kick us out, home football playoff games in effect, IPF gets built!! All these things can happen if everyone votes YES on June 12th!!
-
With these proposed renovations, having the NCHC at the Target Center every year is looking better and better all the time!! Not only will the building be a better venue, but the surrounding area will be great. Look at all the hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. in downtown Minneapolis. If they NCHS goes with the Target Center, I will be excited about it.
-
My guess is Lehigh will be adopting this policy!!!
-
Its 80/20 in favor of a YES vote for this poll. I don;t see it bing that lopsided in the actual vote, but if I would have to predict, I would guess 60/40 in favor of the YES vote to retire the name. I guess we will wait and see how correct my prediction is.
