Vote on your final 5 nickname choices (just ND is out)

HAHAHA, I'm all for No Nickname, but if there was ever a way to shoot it down harder, this is it. -

I think you knew what I was saying. Don't need to make an argument out of a statement that was pretty easy to understand. -

Good luck, I sent President Kelley and several other school leaders a very formal very professional letter last spring expressing my displeasure with him and the school, and never received a response of any sort. It was after the school came down hard on one of the sororities for a banner supporting the hockey team during the Frozen Four. Innocent banner, but because someone from the Indian building complained, the President chose to (AGAIN) bend over for political correctness (though this really shouldn't have been a sociopolitical issue) and publicly reprimand the sorority and its member. The lack of leadership from this guy is unbelievable. So happy he will be gone. -

I'm not going to say that these quotes mean that we SHOULD remain UND, but the above quote should support that students, alumni and stakeholders should have at least had their voices heard. I have several friends who are athletes, and not a single one plays hockey," committee member and UND student Jazmyn Friesz said. "They just want to stay UND, not to bring back Fighting Sioux." Several athletes who want to remain North Dakota. Doesn't seem like they were represented here. Maybe those friends were in the minority, but I have my doubts. "Now I think is the time for some courage and the popular choice based on what was submitted during April, obviously to all of us, if you look at numbers, is 'North Dakota,' but popular isn't always the right choice," said Schweigert, a UND alumnus and committee member. As for Lowell, I don't know him but hear high praise of the kind of person and Alumni he is, BUT that doesn't warrant taking away the opportunity for all of the supporters to have their voice heard. Don't have to agree with me, but not allowing us to vote for a clearly popular choice, is not different that the Standing Rock Tribe not allowing their people to vote yes or no on the Sioux name in the first place. What you have is a small panel telling the public interest, "We know better than you, and it is what we want that counts". "North Dakota" received 21 points when the committee voted on the name with St. Peter awarding 8, the most, and Bahl awarding -8, the least. As for Landon Bahl, any student who is set to represent his constituents need to put personal bias aside. I understand not liking the concept of North Dakota, but to vote against letting you fellow students and alumni have a say in this process is wrong. Voting a -8 for an option that has clear public support, via message boards, online polls, letters to the editor (by know mean are these 100% accurate portrayals of public opinion, but they support the argument to a degree) is choosing to vote based on personal choice rather than as a representation of the student body. If you did not want the school to remain UND, you feel as though you won. If you do want the school to remain UND, you feel as though you lost (again). The bottom line is many people who have poured their hearts, souls, and money into this school were stripped of a chance to voice their opinion. Had UND been put on the ballot and lost to Roughriders, there would be far less people upset; but the committee chose to ultimately take this vote out of the public's hands. No vote at this point will portray an accurate representation of the Students, Alumni and Stakeholders as a whole. Rather it will portray a directional change aligning with the wants of one small committee. -

Actually the Wild still have the worst nickname in the NHL. They could change it to something else tomorrow, and I wouldn't blink. -

This biggest issue with that is the timing. If there were going to dump something that was so popular, it should have been done at the beginning, not dragged along through multiple stages of cuts. Poor execution by the commitee and President Kelly -

There have been multiple sources, saying the committee is already set on North Stars, regardless of what happens going forward. Not saying those sources are all accurance; but all too often, when there is smoke, there is fire. -

Also, putting TO in all caps doesn't give that sentence any additional significance. -

Then President Kelly never should have said it was on the table at the beginning of the process, and the committee should have eliminated it immediately. When you leave it on the list throughout the entire process, then it was an option. You can't blame people for being upset, when one of the most (arguable THE most) popular option is eliminated during the last cut. You don't have to like that particular option, but with its popularity, and it being in contention up to this point, the ONLY reason to remove it now is that it doesn't align with what the committee members want. -

This is so accurate. Extremely frustrating for many to have such a passionate opionion about something, then have the option yanked before they are even allowed to speak on it via vote. If this was going to be the case, the committee should have eliminated it from day 1. I think it is very clear the committee has their own agenda. Sad, and impossible to prove, but this entire process seems to have been somewhat of a show to create an illusion of allowing fans to have an impact on the future of the school's name. -

Don't be so ignorant. If fans prefer staying UND or North Dakota, it automatically means they just don't want to get over the Fighting Sioux name? Nice generalization. Maybe a huge number of people actually prefer North Dakota, because the rest of the option are pretty pathetic. Fighting Hawk - very general, not really unique, pretty boring North Stars - Awesome name, for a team in the North Star state SunDogs - The ridiculous of this option does not need to be elaborated on NoDaks - very general, a moderate alternative to remaining just North Dakota Roughriders - name of the local high school, pobably the best option of the group, but still not great. Clearly some people still find this controversial. Maybe, just maybe, that is why many of us prefer remaining North Dakota. Regardless, the fact that the option was as popular as it was, and we aren't even allowed to get behind that option is ridiculous. The voices of a few highly liberal, politically correct extremists speaks for everyone ... again! -

Who cares, they'll come up with something regardless of what we pick: Whioux no d#&!s fighting hicks Etc. There is always something, we saw that with Fighting Sioux too. That's not what you base a decision on. -

I'll take Nodaks, because it would be the easiest to sweep under the rug and remain just North Dakota, for the most part. -

If you really want fans, students, alumni, etc. to cling even tighter to the Sioux name... force a name like Sundogs on them. Just disgusted by the fact that Sundogs is considered top 5 over what has worked over the past few year, and what was largely popular among supporters. Gotta love when a small group/committee says what we want is more important than what you want. -

Libtards, in no way can they ever be held accountable for something being considered controversial at any time in the future. Personally, I think if you are worried about that, you have no business being on this committee. Just wanting to take the easy way out. Nevermind how unpopular it is with the vast majority of fans and alumni. Opposing fans are crying they are laughing so hard at us right now. -

Understand why some have reservations about North Dakota, but in no way is Sundogs a more viable option for UND that just North Dakota. This is pretty sickening to watch, not because it is critically important (it truly is a nickname, even though it does hold some significance), but the way this entire process has been handled, and the degree to which the process has bent over to the PC crowd is truly disgusting. -

Please vote for something, anything but SunDogs. I'll always call them Fighting Sioux too, but can you imagine watching a game with a SunDog jersey? yikes! -
referring to? the voting process? If so, I agree this has been a terrible process to this point, but if the voting piece is drawn out a bit, that at least makes sense. That is the part they need to make sure is executed correctly.

Agreed, maybe setup a secure voting portal. Mail login information to all alumni. Let them vote. Could do the same with season ticket holders and something similar for students through the U-Mail.

Well I wish NDSU would get a hockey program, not because I think we would just dominate (though we would, right away), but because it would just be a fun rivalry game to have on the schedule. That and I am all for the growth of the sport. One solid alumni donation to get it started; and they could use the Scheels Center. I understand this will likely not happen, at least not in the forseeable future, but I still think it would be pretty awesome.

I would love a UND-NDSU game in Mpls. With young kids, I just don't have as much time to make it back to Grand Forks for games. Also with young kids, my in-laws (huge Bison fans) tend to come down alot. This would be a blast! I'm sure I'm not the only one in this position, and between both schools, there are plenty of Alumni around here, not to mention the large group that would travel for both teams.

UND is primed for a big step forward this season, but that doesn't happen automatically; they need to actually follow through with the hype that this will be a dominant defense, and a competent (albeit not great) offense. UND doesn't rank high in pre-season polls or have anyone on preseason all conference teams, because they haven't earned it as a team yet. Our success this season is pure speculation at this point. That being said, preseason polls are garbage and mean nothing. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like us to be at the top, but I'd prefer were were at the top of the polls at the END of the season. Can't wait for some football!
-
More or less, what I was getting at. I just meant, I wonder if they would try to implement something in the middle of an athletic season, or if they would want to wait until August 2016. I guess we'll see.
-
It will be interesting to see if they try to imlement the new name immediately, or if that would happen the following school year. I would assume it would wait a year as they will still need to create a logo and it impacts jerseys, apparel, venues, etc. ...unless they just stay UND
