Biggest drawback for each remaining name (final 15)
siouxfan512 replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
ok so minus the controversial University of North Dakota, we are really left with a copy "realistic" options. Roughriders Cavalry NoDaks Thoughts on these? IF North Dakota is not on the final list, I would actually place a vote for any of those. The rest of the names on that list are all a joke, and my biggest fear is ending up with Spirit, Pride and Sundogs. Also, have they made any changes to the original voting process? Will it only be those with a vested interest, or is this still going to be open everyone in the world? -
Look at that Sic! We agree on something!

Which is a totally legit opinion. I'm not arguing that at all. If you think its stupid to have no-name it is understandable and I can at least respect that view. It is the people arguing that North Dakota is not actually an option, because they want to play lawyer. If you have an opinion, state it (as you have done), but don't try to place legal loophole just to shut down the other opinions that you don't care for. That was my whole point. -

Such a true statement. I actually though that with some of who they included on this committee, this situation might be handled well. But I have definitely lost some respect for a few of these individuals. The whole process could not have been handled worse. Nokota- Unique Name/Holds ties to North Dakota (Not on the list) Spirit/Force/Pride/Etc - (on the list) WTF? -

Do you realize how ridiculous it is that the name of the state is even deemed controversial though. I understand people wanting a new nickname, it totally makes sense to me. What doesn't make sense are some of the arguments people are throwing out there to eliminate the use of just North Dakota. People don't have to like North Dakota, just like I don't like Sun Dogs, but I'd rather hear everyone state an opinion that I disagree with, over rambling on their BS arguments and trying to sounds like they are an NCAA attorney. At least I can respect an honest opinion. -

Wow you are inconsistent. Like I said before, you are simply twisting your own interpretations to support your own opinions. University of North Dakota - Not ok; Need "official" nickname. Contains word Dakota, but word placement is ok University of North Dakota North Dakota - Not ok; 1st Dakota is ok, 2nd Dakota is not ok University of North Dakota Nodaks - ok, still contains word Dakota, but placement is ok. Includes NoDaks which reference North Dakota, but as it is missing the letters -ota it is acceptable. This is not the NCAA's logic, this is your interpretation of an agreement to loophole in your opinion and exclude others. -

What about University of North Dakota NoDaks? you are referencing Dakota? Is that out too then? -

I'll pacify you right now with redundancy ... University of North Dakota North Dakota (WHICH THEY WOULD NEVER GO BY) Placement of the first Dakota (acceptable), Placement of the second Dakota (unacceptable). You logic and stupidity amazes me. -

The notion of using "North Dakota" would be to operate as is. If it is on the list, then it is currently in play. What about that concept is so hard to grasp? -

Again you are aguing semantics. If that was the case, then all Dakota school would be banned because really the Bison are the North Dakota State Bison; and don't argue the where the word lies in the phrase actually determines actionable sanctions. AND by that logic most schools would be under sanctions as their state names are associated with native americans. Again, I get that you don't like this route, but your argument carries no weight. -

Old Name: Fighting Sioux New Name: North Dakota I'm not saying it is THE option, but it is my preference. I think everyone who is anti-no nickname (which I understand) is trying to use a single ambiguous word in the legal agreement to support their own opion. A single ambiguous word, which they have no real clarity on that would deter the use of University of North Dakota. I have to believe that the committee and the University of North Dakota (yes that is the name of the school) has more insight on the subject than the posters on this message board. If they say it is still in play, then they probably know something that you don't. Now, that doesn't mean we won't have another issues a few years down the road in some people wanting a nickname. BUT I am sick of people using the same tired argument, for which they have no real backup, to support their opinoion. Just say your opinion is to adopt a new nickname, and leave it at that.. -
The first logo would have went great with Nokota.

The Teddy logo is pretty cool though

Sorry Sic, but you arguments are ridiculous. Dakota can be in the formal school name, but not the nickname, even if it a state name. I completely understand the argument of not like"no nickname", but don't twist every single argument to support your opinion. Everything you have said completely contradicts itself. School Name: University of North Dakota (ok) Athletics Name: University of North Dakota (not ok) Then we have been out of compliance for the last three years. Like I said, I understand you not liking the "no name" route, but your ridiculous arguments are doing nothing but diminishing the credibility of your opinion. -

Except that North Dakota would not actually be the nickname. It would just be The University of North Dakota. You twisting facts to support your own opinions. There would be no redundancy in remaining the University of North Dakota. Are we the University of North Dakota North Dakota right now? No? So enough with your terrible, thoughtless argument. -
The post with the logos absolutely proves that we needs some logo potentials with the final 3 names. Example: University of North Dakota Spirit..... ..... Thoughts?

Does anyone know if there will be changes to the viewing options this years? Games will be shown on CBS Sports and the NCHC package, but are there any talking of trying to get games (not shown on CBS sports) back onto Fox College Sports? Same goes for Football and Basketball? (Big Sky TV is nice) but way easier to flip to Fox College Sports.

Any update on when we will get a preview of the new uniforms?
-
Because everyone on here thinks they are a lawyer and better connected than the people actually working for the university.
-
If the committee does not put North Dakota in the top three, they should definitely use this.
-
This would be a legitimate compromise to needing a new nickname and having no nickname.
-
Flickertails was far from my "choice". Way more suitable than spirit or sun dogs, and I do not believe I am in the majority with that statement.
-
If I was guaranteed our top 3 were: North Dakota, Roughriders and Cavalry ... I wouldn't be as nervous. I don't love them all, but I could probably live with them. What if our top 3 is Explorers, Spirit and Sundogs?!?!? Not so good
