We'll be just fine next season and still a top 10 team with or without Schmaltz. With him, we are still a top 3 team, so obviously fingers crossed he stays another year. We had 11 freshmen, who most made great contributions, we were the 5th or so youngest team in the nation! We don't rebuild, we reload (see every year since 2002).

Exactly. Hats off to anyone and everyone. I said the same thing last night to my wife. It doesn't hurt much at all having guys sign early, as they are leaving as champions to play pro hockey. Whether they make the NHL or not, is besides the point. Also LJ in the right situation could make the pros, I'm amazed at some guys who make the pros and some who don't. Let's cheer our alum on, not discount them.

Worst case scenario, is still a great scenario for Sioux fans. Leaving (hypothetically speaking) LaDue, Johnson, Schmaltz, Thompson, Stetcher Coming (Potentially) Jost, Yon, Bowen, Hoff, Poolman, Johnson, Bast Solid top 10 recruiting class, if not top 5, and returning hopefully 11 freshman. Six freshman saw significant playing time and will fill the voids left by our early departures. With Schmaltz and either LaDue or Johnson, we'll be ranked #1 out the gate.

This program is really special and as I was reading this week on a gopher blog we "get the extra year or two" from players. That's exactly it, we have first rounders playing until they are sophomore or juniors. When was the last time we lost a 1st rounder after their freshman year going into their soph year? Once they come on campus our tradition, pride, and culture takes over. Hats off to Hak, Berry, Blais, etc for the culture that was brought back after a couple down years with Gino. I feel like we reload, not rebuild.

There really isn't any rush for players to decide to leave or come back. I would think long and hard about it as well and not go off emotion. It's easier to make a rash decision whether to stay or go, than it is to really take the time to weigh options. It's funny how impatient we are as fans; we consider two weeks after the season ends thinking "long and hard." I spend months figuring out my career path and job offers, why is it any different for these guys?

I agree they are definitely a better fit talent wise for the WCHA, but being so close to Denver the NCHC makes sense. I'd like the NCHC to add a minimum of 2 teams, ideally 4. My ideal NCHC would be: UND, Denver, SCSU, West Mich, Miami, UMD, CC, Omaha........(bring back old WCHA rivals) Minn State, Mich Tech, Bemidji State.... Air Force (perfect fit with CO rivals). I just don't see how Arizona State (having no arena from my understanding) and no tradition or history is something that the NCHC wants to add. Why not add historical rivals that have tradition and make sense travel wise.

Haha, Ladue will have little barring on Schmaltz decision. Ladue nearly left last year. He'll (Schmaltz) do what's right for himself and make an informed decision, like everyone else does. That's why he's waiting, the more likely scenario is he'll go through camp and then weigh his options. He should wait and as much as we as Sioux fans hate players leaving early, many should. Stecher and Thompson had great options and we should be proud that they stayed as long as they did. Many programs barely get a year or two out of players, at North Dakota we get an extra year or two due to our culture, fan base, and tradition.

Are these tix gone? I'm interested. -
Touche...Little ironic that they'll be competing against each other in Cleveland though.

My thoughts exactly. Initially I was a little confused by the Barr pick, but hindsight this was a solid first round. Building depth.
-
This first round for the Viks was an interesting one, Barr was a stretch I thought at 9, but it was nice they traded down as well. But to get Bridgewater at 32 was just amazing value for him, who was projected as the #1 pick at times this year. Seeing his stat line and how accurate he is, his film is impressive in big games as well. Great pickup for the Viks.

I know this was in jest, but Manziel is a far better passer than Young is.

Congrats for Rocco. Always a Sioux.

I think your expectations need to be reevaluated. What did you expect? He's put together 2 solid season in Grand Forks. First off, not trying to knock our current players, but he wasn't on a line with Hayes and Arnold, had he been, he would have put up 15-20 more points. 39 points on a struggling offensive team isn't bad at all. Secondly, size in the NHL doesn't mean at much as it used to. If players like Gerbe, Tyler Johnson, Atkinson, can flourish, Rocco will easily find his way onto a roster. I hope he stays selfishly because I like the team we should have next year, but I think we need to let players and coaches decide the best route for themselves.
-
This whole thread is a little ridiculous. Let him make the decision without these desperate posts. He is close to NHL ready and this season has developed into a solid centermen. Next year would be a solid year of development as well at the college level, but if he turns pro, I sure don't blame him considering Florida holds his draft rights.

Fargo team DQ'ed from junior gold state tourney

Could you over generalize anymore then you have? I find it hilarious when people assume an entire city of over 100+ are jerks and bend the rules because a select few in the city do. They take a personal, old rivalry from peewees and make it about the entire city. -
Anyone have a radio link for the EGF game?
-
Overall a great stream. Love the HD feature. I click from "Best Picture" to 720 to get regular HD video. It was SO SO SO nice to go back to the first period and stream it that way. I came into the game half way through and was able to watch the game from the start which was great. A little too choppy though. I'm going run it on another computer next game to get the full effect.

A defensive coordinator change is definitely needed. If the offense is humming, no need to change that, but the defense lacks toughness and proper assignments, that's on the DC's head. A great example is Texas. There defense was one of the best until losing Muschamp; now they're terrible. Is it all Mack Brown's fault? No. Do they now just have terrible defensive players? No. They need a change at DC to get their defense where they should be. Don't be like every other idiot fanbase that thinks the magic answer is always fire the coach and start anew. This site calls for Hakstols head each and every year.

This is great for the state and will benefit all Div 1-aa.
