  1. Yes it is. But it extends into Minnesota, SD, and MT. There are Junior Gold teams and tournaments throughout Minnesota. Also they included a lot of teams coming from Canada to play in the tournaments.
  2. Hate to see anyone besides the Stallions win! I won a state title with them in 2002 and we fell short my senior year in the championship in 2003.
  3. I thought there was better effort and tons of scoring chances. UND dominated that game with scoring chances. Just couldn't finish tonight. Oh well, glad to get 3 out of 4 this weekend.
  4. Solid 3rd period, winning games in the third! Mark McMillan was solid today and what a play saving the would be tying goal in the 3rd. I love seeing forwards playing tough in the defensive zone. On to tomorrow, 5-2 and count it as a sweep!
  5. Just making a list of enforcer type players. You can't deny that he didn't play tough and throw his body around. I think you missed the point of the post that I made.
  6. It is tough to lose a physical leader like MacWilliam and it doesn't look from our roster that we have that Greene, Finley, MacWilliam, type enforcer, but still I'm not at all worried about our defense game. With another year of development Schmaltz, Simpson, Forbort, Mattson are going be a solid top 4. With LaDue coming in and Senkbeil or Panzerella rounding out the 6, UND looks great defensively. Don't forget about Poolman as well. Hakstol seems to love to play all his D, rather than logging tons of minutes with 4. But if Forbort does leave Crisfield will come in.
  7. I completely agree about rooting for Maine, I've always felt like Maine has a lot in common with North Dakota in a sense. It doesn't take much though to get a program back though, experience natually brings any team to the forefront. Maine currently has 9 freshman! That's why they've been inconsistent this year, look for Maine to be solid in 2-3 years.
  8. Ladue will step in even better than Mattson did as a freshman (which was really good). Simpson, Mattson, and Schmaltz are all solid defensemen, we just need another 2 or so defensemen to step in (in assuming Forbort leaves). I don't think Forbort leaves though, he's been great for us, but not all that dominate that you may expect in a first rounder. Good or bad, I think he's really our only early pro departure we'd have to worry about.
  9. Our team after 2010-2011 did take a hit, losing a line that gelled so well together. But I didn't worry much, because of Nelson, Knight, and Kristo. We don't really have those type of players (minus Rocco) to really fill the top line with. Next season is going be a difficult one. I still expect us to be in the top 10 with our steady defense and goaltending (should be solid) next season. Offensively I think we'll see a dip.
  10. Anyone else a little concerned about next season and losing Knight and Kristo? I don't think we need to worry one bit about the defensive side, but offensively are we going have enough to make a splash in the tourney? I'm excited about both Tambellini and Murphy, but I'm concerned about Rowe and his production with the USHL. I think Johnson will be a top 2 line player by sophmore year after some development. I'm hoping for some good growth with Caggiula and Mark MacMillan on the offensive side. Rocco will be a stud no doubt about it. Just a thought
  11. There is no way we see Tate, unless we have a 3+ goal lead in the 3rd. In the WCHA you don't just give away a goal even if it's senior night. But I do feel for him, its not easy being a backup for 4 years. Then again he's playing D-1 hockey, that happens, the best players play.
  12. I'm hoping for 6/8 pts to finish the season and we'll be in great shape going into the WCHA tourney. Anyone below the top 3 are in for a really tough series even at home. The goal is top 3 going into the tourney, ideally 8/8 and a WCHA crown, but I'm trying to be realistic. It's hard to make up 3 pts when SCSU has MT this weekend....
  13. Great video, thx Goon for all the work this weekend with both videos.
  14. Great bounce back. So many penalties.......great PK tonight. This was a character win for UND.
  15. We have a lot of committed recruits coming in as well from the RR valley. Poolman, Ladue, Johnson, Thompson. Great to see ND talent playing at the D1 level. Also great to see RR win it again.
  16. I mentioned those players because your ripping on his leadership and lack of a title. Now would those players make your list? Johnson his senior and junior year didn't even have a winning record, but he's gotta be on the list of all time Sioux greats. Chay has 2 frozen fours, 2 broadmoor, 2 MacNaughton. I'd say that's good leadership in the most competitive era of college hockey ever.
  17. You don't need to come insult my intelligent on the history of the Fighting Sioux, I would just take him over numerous defensemen. It's opinion and I would take him based on leadership. Steenson was a great player for UND in an era that it was far easier to win a title then it is now. My point is you can't make a cut just because a player didn't win a title. What's funny is Chay would make every list on here if he had won a title. In this age you can't define a players greatest and leadership just on the fact of NCs. Now coaches are a different story, Hak is a great coach, but will never make it as a legend until he wins a title, simply put. So again, lets see your roster. I'm excited to see the older Sioux players, as for me I like my roster of 80s. 90s, and 2000s because UND is just that deep in history. Should I include some 50s, 60s, and 70s, sure, but I like my roster just fine. Rip on the Namenko/Bombarbir selection, not the Chay selection.
  18. Some positives from last night was the PP, Knight/Kristo, and the 2nd line with Caggiula looked good. What's funny is how bad 3 of the goals were (1, 3, and 5 were completely avoidably and should have been saved) DU needed a miracle save to keep the lead. UND fought hard on the road and probably deserved to lose, yet played well enough to tie it up. Just a thought, Caggiula will lead this team as a junior, he's going be special once he builds some strength.
  19. He never won a title, does that not mean he's an all time great? Neither did Greg Johnson, Toews, Duncan, Parise, Frattin, Ward...... That doesn't mean that they're not great. He won tons of titles (granted not NCs) but lead us to a lot of success. Just fell short of the ultimate team prize. Still would make my list, if that's your criteria I'd liked to see your list.
  20. I agree that playing western michigan twice is really not exciting and having Omaha as a "rival" is downright funny. I've always found it funny when conferences assign rivals, seriously? Rivals are made by playing tough passionate games over years. That being said, UND was "getting the shaft" in the WCHA as well though. A couple years we only played Minnesota once and were assigned SCSU as a rival (which I like the growing rivalry, but SCSU really?). The WCHA scheduling was just as frustrating. I LOVE our non conference schedule, its the best we've had in years.
  21. I've noticed that for NCAA football/basketball games people post the entire game on youtube, I know its probably a chore. Anyway that's possible? I'd love to rewatch a lot of these games in HD especially.
  22. I don't know why everyone is complaining so much, of course we're going lose games like Wisc and Minn on our schedule. Ironically a lot of people were concerned that if we didn't drop the Sioux name "big" schools would refuse to play us......... I actually like this schedule although not having Denver at home is annoying. But look at the fresh teams that we see next year Northern Michigan and Western Mich (solid team and will be dangerous), St Lawerence (one of the better teams in there conference), Miami (good year in and year out since late 2000s), and Vermont/BU (love having 2 series against HE teams). It's refreshing to have a schedule like we have coming up, we still play Duluth, SCSU, Den, and CC, so its really not the end of the world. In fact I feel that our schedule next year is nearly harder than this year. We don't have cupcake series like UAA, MT, and Holy Cross. The HCNC is a solid conference up and down, its not going be easy winning it. The scheduling now opens it up national to play whomever, whereever in years to come. The Big Ten Conference destroyed rivalries (as does most conference relignment $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) but the Sioux will come out of it stronger and more defined.
  23. Anyone have a good online stream for the KFAN 1440?
  24. This topic about Kristo is just crazy. He's had 3 years of double digit goals (thats on a team for 2 yrs that had the Frattin line ahead of him), this year he'll easily break 20 goals. He's an elite talent and arguably the most creative/skilled player in college hockey right now. To say that he isn't a good "finisher," seriously its college hockey with elite goalies. The puck doesn't allows find the net, anyone who has played knows that. With 60+ goals and 88+ assists in his college career. He doesn't dive, or take dumb penalties, I'd say we're lucky to have him.
  25. Are you serious? I had to laugh outloud that you would actually put Oshie over Duncan. Yeah Oshie was a great player for UND, but I'd take 4 other skaters before taking Oshie. Taylor should probably make the list, but Duncan was a 4 year starter AND a Hobey winner. How can't you, as a Sioux fan, put a Hobey winner on your list? More importantly was his leadership that he brought all 4 years. That's why Chay Genoway makes my list, not his offensive defensivemen ability, but his leadership that pushes it over the edge. Now was Oshie a "better" player, more skill? That's debatable, but probably. That's why he's in the NHL. But of All Time Greats, a Hobey winner needs to make everyone's list.
