We didn't DO anything. He, like everyone, needed to earn ice time. Rarely do players come in a freshman and play every game. Things just didn't work out at UND; it isn't like UND and the coaching staff screwed him over.
-
What we did to his brother? Seriously? He played 32 games in his sophmore year. I near guarantee that his junior and senior year he would've played every game. Although I thought he was decently productive when he did see the ice. Let get this straight, he is not Jonathan. Just because they share the same last name, doesn't mean he's going to be a star. At UND you're not given ice time; you earn it.

I talked with the Athletics department today and they said they're going to auction off seats from the Old Ralph. Anyone with information on how much they run or how I could get my hands on seats?

A player doesn't need to worry about part time schooling, enrolling as a full time student starts the eligibility clock, even then a player has 5 years of eligible years to play 4 years of college hockey. The rule states as follows: 14.2.1 Five-Year Rule - A student-athlete shall complete his or her seasons of participation within five calendar years from the beginning of the semester or quarter in which the student-athlete first registered for a minimum full-time program of studies in a collegiate institution, with time spent in the armed services, on official church missions or with recognized foreign aid services of the U.S. government being excepted. For foreign students, service in the armed forces or on an official church mission of the student's home country is considered equivalent to such service in the United States. 14.2.3.5 Participation after 21st Birthday - Any participation as an individual or a team representative in organized sports competition by a student during each 12-month period after the student's 21st birthday and prior to initial full-time enrollment in a collegiate institution shall count as one year of varsity competition in that sport. Participation in organized competition during time spent in the U.S. armed services shall be excepted. To summarize the Five-Year rule, enrolling at college or university full time begins your five-year eligibility clock. For a player aiming at the NCAA, full-time enrolment could make them less attractive to schools/coaches recruiting future talent - by thus having less years to work with the player. For the most part, players that want to continue schooling while playing out their junior will attend as part-time students. This allows them to keep the edge on their studies while also being able to balance the rigors of playing junior hockey all the while keeping their NCAA eligibility intact. The second rule above may or may not be an issue for some players. In some cases, a player will turn 21 during their last year of junior. If so, a player cannot continue playing once their 21st birthday occurs if they are inline for the NCAA the following season. If they do continue to play, the player will lose a year of eligibility - again something that most coaches aren't that keen on when recruiting a prospective athlete. Another area of concern for prospective NCAA athletes has to do with keeping their amateur status. The rules that you need to be aware of concerning amateur status are the following: 12.3.1 General Rule - An individual shall be ineligible for participation in an intercollegiate sport if he or she ever has agreed (orally or in writing) to be represented by an agent for the purpose of marketing his or her athletics ability or reputation in that sport. Further, an agency contract not specifically limited in writing to a sport or particular sports shall be deemed applicable to all sports, and the individual shall be ineligible to participate in any sport.

I disagree. The best #1 pick by far was Alexandre Daigle.

Schmaltz didn't impress you? Seriously? What'd you expect 15 goal season? He was a stud and got better as the year went on. He was a freshman as well and was far better than Forbort his freshman year. I think we have far too high of expectations on freshman who are 18-19, remember they're playing in some cases against 22-24 yr olds. Physically and mentally there not nearly on the same maturity plain.

Just stupid to have Pittsburgh going to Chicago instead of Minnesota or St Louis. NHL leans so heavy on teams like Pitt/Washington/NY Rangers promoting them, when Minnesota and St Louis have great rosters and solid fanbases. I like the idea of the rivalry games outdoors, but have someone else play in the 2nd game not NY Rangers again. Bring in Buffalo or any one on the east coast for that matter. You'll see a half empty stadium for the 2nd game for sure.

LeBlancs season really wasn't that Hobeyish. It was a good season, but nothing too spectacular. I just don't get how Hartzell didn't win it, he's by far MVP on the "best" team in the nation and should've won. In regard to the 4 steps 1) must be senior...etc etc, I feel goalies don't get nearly the credit they deserve. Without Hartzell OU isn't there in the finals, plain and simple.

Actually i think UND would have matched them better than SCSU. SCSU doesn't nearly have the toughest physically and it showed last night on the puck. UND on the other hand physically would have matched them well.
-
I still can't believe how bad UMass Lowell looked. No offense, turnovers like crazy. That game was hard to watch. Now the SCSU QU game had a great pace and both teams looked really good for the most part. QU I have to hand it to them, they played a great game and looked so good. There PP is looked so good, creating chances and keeping SCSU on their heels.

Yeah, NCAA Basketball 2010 was the last one. EA Sports has really struggled for the last couple years, they had NBA Live scheduled to come out in 2010 or so, but scrapped it to revamp the entire series. They haven't come out with one since. 2kSports has really dominated that series now. I'd love to see them make another one though (college hoops that is). NCAA Hockey will never come out, but as the CHL (WHL, QMJ, OHL) is on NHL games now, there was talk to have college teams added, but jumping through the near impossible NCAA hoop has made this difficult. I just wish EA Sports NHL13 had an online creative suite like NCAA Football has, where teams can be created and downloaded in minutes, rather than the tiring process of creating each team and player individually.

I was concerned about Rowe as well. But if you look at his stats from the last 2 years you can see the progression with added ice time. I'd expect great growth with another year in the USHL. He's not a top end guy, but could be a 4 yr player for us down the road. Trevor Olson had a similar growth period.

I wouldn't say 38 PIM in 30 games is taking a lot of penalty minutes. He's had several 5 min majors that really push up his PIM. Great to see him playing physical though.
-
Great to hear about Forbort. Although it'll be tough to lose him, I sure hope he makes the NHL roster soon.
-
In this day and age, I'm not a fan of the pylons that are so tall. Like Tyler Myers, they can't keep up with players like Toews, Kane, and other speedsters. The rules crackdown and level the physical playing field.

Solid character game for the Sioux tonight. I'm happy for the blowout, thats the only way to go out and make a statement. I got a little emotional thinking about Tate getting some time in. Great to see.

2013 Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament

I thought a gopher fan would root for Jordan Schroeder's former HS. -
Great videos. It'll be nice to have an offensive minded defensemen on the blue line, like a Chay. He's a captain for his current team and was for Canada West, great leadership ability. Great pickup for the Sioux.

Wrong Poolman, he's in juniors at Omaha. Now a potential recruit would be, I assume, his brother Poolman from EGF. A lot of potential recruits coming out of the HS tourney for ND. -
Completely agree. Rowe looks like he needs another year of development. Stecher is a huge pickup and was discussed a week ago, any concerns about our defense should be wiped away. I'm surprised Stecher was passed on the draft last year, but I'm sure he'll get drafted this year.

I'm actually pretty surprised we're as high up in the WCHA as we are without Dell and Brock. Dell brought consistancy night in and night out, we'd easily have 6 more wins win Dell in net. Brock would've added another 20 goals. Shoulda/Coulda/Woulda

Logo looks great. Completely agree with the national feel, now to add 2 more solid programs to the conference..... Is Alabama Huntsville still looking
-
Of course, hanging a NC banner every year is goal number 1, always and forever (insert Napoleon Dynamite joke).
-
I completely agree, I think we get 2 pts out of the weekend. It's highly unlikely we'll get the cup, but we need to finish in the top 3 thats for sure. The last thing we need is to play a tough opening series against Duluth or CC.
-
Duluth East Jack Forbort, does it look like he's D-1 material, I assume he's Derek's brother? He's surprisely only 5'8.
