  1. Watched about a period of their championship against Lowell. When I was watching I noticed Northeastern is pretty passive on their PK and I think that is when our PP has been most successful this year so if they play it that way Friday that could be a big advantage. I also think if the Gardner-Johnson-Poganski line is playing well Northeastern will have no answer for their play along the boards. Here are some highlights of their championship game from youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaSjmEeVlyI
  2. I agree I don't mind the Northeastern matchup. Yes I'd rather get RIT or Ferris State but Northeastern definitely has some flaws too. I only watched about a period of them last night but one thing I noticed was how passive their penalty kill was and those are the types of kills that UND has had success against this season so if Northeastern takes a few penalties I think we will be able to take advantage of those chances.
  3. This is what I'd guess they will do. Albany (1) Quinnipiac vs. (16) RIT (8) Massachusetts Lowell vs. (10) Yale St. Paul (2) St. Cloud State vs. (15) Ferris State (6) Denver vs. (9) Boston University Cincinnati (3) North Dakota vs. (13) Northeastern (7) Michigan vs. (12) Notre Dame Worcester (4) Providence vs. (14) Minnesota Duluth (5) Boston College vs. (11) Harvard
  4. Messing with the pairwise predictor if it looks like if Quinnipiac loses and both St. Cloud and UND win St. Cloud would finish #1 and UND #2. So if Minnesota wins the B1G the question would be does the committee keep St. Cloud close to home in St. Paul to play Minnesota and UND then gets to play the bottom seed Atlantic hockey winner in Cincy or would they switch that around. I think if that ends up being the situation I would rather face the Atlantic winner in Cincy.
  5. It is how Duluth has played all year. If officials let it go they can be very tough to play against but if officials call it tight they'll have a parade to the penalty box all game. Who is reffing and how they call it could be pretty crucial for Duluth's success or lack of success in the NCAAs.
  6. Duluth is a tough team to play against when the officials let the stickwork and interference go like they did today. They got called for a hook and a interference penalty in the 1st and I thought Shepherd and Walsh were gonna actually limit that and allow the guys to skate and use their speed a little bit but it was like after the 1st they decided they didn't care anymore about the stickwork and interference stuff and just decided to let it all go. Duluth's goalie also came up big on a few great chances. Cam has to be better going forward the 1st goal was terrible and he looked out of position a lot today. Doesn't matter who Duluth plays in the NCAAs(yes even if it is somehow the Gophers) I hope they lose and their hooking, holding, and after the whistle slashes come back to haunt them. I think this team will be fine going forward whether the #1 in St.Paul or Cincy.
  7. Grand Rapids forward Micah Miller to St. Cloud. GRHS Hockey Online ‏@grhshockey 5h5 hours ago BREAKING: Micah Miller has committed to @SCSUHUSKIES_MH!
  8. Played pretty well and really a great start to the game only thing you would've wanted to change would've been to cash in on some of the real good chances early.
  9. It is definitely a possibility, I know he was trying to accelerate his studies to be able to play at Minnesota next season.
  10. Not at all, I just think it is tough to judge a kids character at all right after losing the biggest game he has played in. He did post a nice note on Twitter a couple hours after the game thanking his seniors, support his team had, and the usual stuff like that but made sure to include a congratulations to Wayzata in it and that they deserved to win which he didn't need to include at all.
  11. Mittelstadt had just lost the biggest game of his life I'm not gonna blame him for being upset and taking the medal off its just not a big deal to me at all. People can complain all they want about him taking his medal off and if he is a bad sport or not but the bottom line is any program in the country would be happy to have him.
  12. Looks like he played his high school hockey at Brainerd can't say I really remember him too much but I only saw a couple Brainerd games when he would have been there. Seems like he has good size and will probably be a depth guy.
  13. I would guess he had already been at the rink and had to go back to his room for something. I would be surprised if they don't need to show up until right at game time. Maybe Janatuinen was dealing with some kind of illness and was supposed to stay away tonight but when Schmaltz couldn't go they asked him if he would be able to battle through the illness and play?
  14. I believe Midco has usually televised the 1st round when UND is at home so I'd guess that would be the case again. CBSSN does the frozen faceoff semifinals and championship, don't think there is any tv for the 3rd place game.
  15. Was a little sloppy at times and goaltending struggled but battled through it to get the win. I thought UND really controlled things 5-on-5 but most of this game was filled with penalties. Hope Schmaltz can get healthy heading into to playoff time but no matter who is in and who is out need to get the job done next week.
  16. Mark Senden and Wayzata are the AA State Champions Wayzata beat Eden Prairie 5-3 in a great game tonight. Senden played very well again very responsible defensively, created a few good chances and drew a PP driving hard to the net.
  17. #3 Wayzata beats #1 Eden Prairie 5-3 adding an empty netter late to win the AA championship. Great championship game had a little of everything lots of skill plays, very physical, powerplay goals, shorthanded goals, big saves, and big defensive plays. The Minnesota State Hockey Tournament never disappoints.
  18. Grand Rapids won the AA 3rd place game 3-2 over Stillwater. Thief River Falls beat St. Paul Academy in the class A 3rd place game 4-1. Bemidji won the AA consolation championship with a 4-1 win over Farmington so all 4 northern teams took home some hardware. Looking forward to a good AA championship at 7:00 with #1 Eden Prairie and #3 Wayzata. The 2 teams split during the regular season with each team winning 4-2. EP has the best player on the ice in Mittlestadt who has been dominant and Wayzata has great balanced depth and will be able to roll 4 lines and 3 sets of defensemen.
  19. #4 Grand Rapids beat #2 Stillwater 3-2 in the 3rd place game in AA. Mitchell Mattson scored the game winning goal for Rapids with 5:12 left in the game, Gavin Hain had 1 assist in the game.
  20. Have heard from a couple people and now also read a couple different places that Mattson has been playing with an injury this week. The people that told me about just said he suffered a hand injury against Duluth East but I've read on a couple different sites that say he had to get 12 stiches in his hand after the section final.
  21. Hermantown beats Breck 5-0 to win the class A championship. Snaps a streak of 6 straight runner-up finishes for Hermantown.
  22. Eden Prairie beat Grand Rapids 6-2. Hain, Mattson, and the rest of the Thunderhawks will play Stillwater for 3rd tomorrow afternoon.
  23. Eden Prairie beats Grand Rapids 6-2 to advance to the final. Grand Rapids was able to tie it at 2 with 2 goals in 11 seconds in the 2nd period and had a couple chances to take the lead but a post and big save kept that from happening. After that EP responded with 3 of their own in the 2nd and would add another in the 3rd. Casey Mittelstadt led EP again and was fantastic with 3 goals and 2 assists and now 11 points in 2 tournament games.
