  1. I have my own opinion as do many others and that is fine. I will not just "join the team" and embrace the fighting hawks nickname and logo. I hate the logo and nickname would have much rather just went without a nickname but that won't stop me from supporting the UND athletic teams especially the hockey team.
  2. Men's hockey hasn't had any logo on their helmets since they were forced to take the Sioux decal off. I believe the women's team has had some kind of ND logo on their helmet the past so years so that would be the difference between the two. I wouldn't be surprised if the men continue with no logo at all on the helmet and I hope they do.
  3. Have also heard rumors their coaches didn't do a great job of keeping in contact with guys and once they asked Boeser how his season was going with Burnsville and Boeser was playing in the USHL for Waterloo at the time.
  4. Both Mankato and St. Cloud have very good D2 baseball programs that have been perennial playoff teams and on top of the NSIC. I believe Mankato made it to the National Championship game a couple years ago.
  5. I like Mankato and would be fine with adding them. I'm not as sure on adding Arizona State they need to get the arena situation figured out. Bowling Green does nothing for me, I'd put Mankato and Bemidji ahead of both Arizona State and Bowling Green if the NCHC is adding teams.
  6. Hopefully the old interlocking ND but not sure what they will do. Really wouldn't mind North Dakota wrote out like on the jerseys either. Would rather go no logo at center ice than use the new one.
  7. I think today has worked out well for the Wild so far. Got a couple guys who can help and didn't have to overpay. I know they were linked to both Okposo and Backes. Okposo got 7 years at $6 million per and Backes 5 years at $6 million per. Both are long deals but I really can't see it ending well with Backes 5 years seems like way too much for him. Would be really nice if the Wild are able to land Cullen and I still think they should trade 1 of their defensemen.
  8. Not sure on Greene but don't think Cullen would consider Edmonton. Listened to him talk to Russo on KFAN the other day and sounds like he really wants to be back in Pittsburgh and will wait for them to try to find some cap space for him. Russo made it seem like if that didn't work out the Wild would be the other option for Cullen.
  9. Well those places all are in Minnesota so they would be correct. I grew up in one of those types of places went to Sioux hockey games and became a fan when I was young. I went to Grand Forks a lot like you mention but I definitely am a Minnesotan and proud of that. I'm also a Minnesota fan in every other sport besides college hockey so that probably helps. I think a lot of times when a Minnesotan mentions that a kid is from the state especially in hockey it has to deal with them playing high school hockey there and they are proud to add to the state of hockey tradition.
  10. There are plenty of fans in that bunker too and I'm sure there are other athletes that feel the same way as the hockey team they just may not be putting their feelings on social media.
  11. I don't have a problem with it either. I'm sure if Berry told the players to stop posting stuff on Twitter about the nickname/logo they would but maybe Berry has no problem with what the players are posting.
  12. Hockey team has plenty of leadership. Just because they're speaking out against the terrible nickname/logo instead of just falling in line like the other athletes doesn't mean there is no leadership. They want to speak their mind and share their feelings instead of just falling in line and that is fine with me.
  13. I don't care if the hockey team or any team for that matter embraces the name or logo. I'd be surprised if Faison says anything to the hockey team if he was gonna he would have a long time ago with the Siouxforever stuff. He knows they bring in the money and just won a National Championship and doesn't wanna upset anyone in the hockey program.
  14. So nothing official on Schmaltz signing yet but certainly everything pointing that way and I can't blame him if he goes. He would have been a dominant college player this year and I definitely think he is ready for the next step. He will have a chance to play for the Blackhawks right away and I think he will stick with them for good. For the Sioux I would think they will bring in another forward but it will be interesting to see who. Probably another forward already in the pipeline like Adams, Keane, or Mattson. Without knowing who if anyone they will bring in to replace Schmaltz I'd go: Gersich-Jost-Boeser Janatuinen-Gardner-Poganski Hoff-Simonson-Wilkie Yon-Bowen-Olson Gornall,Smith Ausmus-Wolanin C.Poolman-T.Poolman Shaw-Johnson Chartrand,Peski Johnson Tomek Hrynkiw Anderson
  15. Gophers recruit Casey Mittelstadt announced he will return to Eden Prairie for his SR season rather than enroll early at Minnesota. Ryan Poehling will join St. Cloud a year early Nick Kelly ‏@NickKellyLNHS 39m39 minutes ago Lakeville North junior forward Ryan Poehling announced he will NOT return for senior season, and will head to St. Cloud State next year
  16. Wayzata forward had visited UND. Colin Schmidt ‏@colinschmidt03 20m20 minutes ago Very excited to announce my commitment to play hockey at the University of Minnesota! Huge thank you to everyone who helped along the way.
  17. Yes he turned it down.
  18. Definitely teams do a lot of work to figure out how likely a kid is to come to their team, to me that pick is basically Fargo just taking a flyer. I know Hain is a great player but I thought it was a little strange he went 1st overall just because so few Grand Rapids players leave high school early to play juniors. I guess they could get him to play before and after the high school season though.
  19. I'm not trying to say he should come in next season either just explaining the situation for Mattson in Bloomington based on what people who have seen him during his time there have said. I've never really thought he would come in straight from high school so I expect him to be in the USHL next year and maybe a change of scenery there would be best for him as well.
  20. From what I've heard part of the problem is his adjustment to Bloomington's system hasn't been very smooth at all. Bloomington plays very defensive and conservative and doesn't allow a whole lot of offensive freedom to the players. I still would expect him to produce more than he has in his time there this year but I like his potential.
  21. If the NCHC does add Arizona State I think I would be fine with UND going to the B1G.
  22. I hope it was true I'd rather not have ASU in the NCHC.
  23. The choices would be Bast, Evers, Johnson, Kiersted, or Peski. Looking at the ages Bast will be 20 in December, Evers will turn 19 in May, Johnson just turned 20, Kiersted turned 18 earlier this month, and Peski turned 19 in March. Bast is the interesting one to me as he was supposed to be here in the fall but after missing much of this season with injury I could see him playing another year of juniors. The plan for Evers had been for him to come in last season so he has already been pushed back one year so I wouldn't be surprised to see him here in the fall. When Johnson committed it said he could come in for either 16 or 17 depending on who leaves. I think Kiersted was a 16 or 17 when he committed so I'd guess unless we lose LaDue, Poolman, and Thompson he plays another year in the USHL, Peski was scheduled to come for 16 but it did say in the article when he committed that he was flexible if that changes.
  24. Brad has said that Poolman will come in for sure this year so that's 1.
