1. Adding a d-man makes sense especially a righty. You lose Ausmus and pretty likely Poolman. Bast is a question mark that I don't think you can count on and Evers may not ever step foot on campus. That leaves you with 8 defensemen not counting Bast and Evers. With the lack of depth we have had this year I also wouldn't be surprised to see next year be a year where you see a little bigger roster and just let the guys battle it out each week to see who is in the lineup. Most of the time it has been 15 forwards and 8 defensemen but I wouldn't be surprised to see it be a year where we have 17 forwards 9 defensemen or something like that.
2. Probably not, Gophers have a lot of very good depth at LB I don't think they will look to add another one and I think they were looking at Ott as more of a DE who would need to put on some weight.
3. No matter who is in the lineup this weekend is a must sweep.
4. From what I've heard nobody from Fleck and the new staff had even contacted him yet so as of now I wouldn't think the visit was still on.
5. With no Jost and Janatuinen I think I'd go with: Gersich-Boeser-Bowen Yon-Gardner-Poganski Smith-Hoff-Olson Gornall-Simonson-Wilkie Could see another defenseman in instead of somebody on that 4th line as well.
6. From Schloss Tyson Jost (lower body) is out tonight. Joel Janatuinen (undisclosed) is out tonight. Both scored last night. Tough go for UND right now.
7. Very disappointing effort tonight. This is the result you get when you play a good team and only a few guys show up ready to play. Very soft on pucks throughout the game and seemed like Duluth won every race. Would expect to see some changes in the lineup tomorrow. Smith isn't overly skilled but he plays a hard physical style and will play hard and that is more than some guys in the lineup bring consistently. Whether it is for Wilkie, Simonson, or maybe someone else I expect Smith to be in tomorrow. A bad goal for each goalie tonight would think Johnson will get the start tomorrow and he needs to be on top of his game. I did think the 3rd looked closer to Sioux hockey but even then it was too little too late.
8. Sounds like he hasn't really heard from Fleck and the new staff at least as of yet.
9. Good response by the guys tonight. Much more focused effort defensively limiting Miami's opportunities.
10. I don't blame at all on the 1st one but that 2nd one was terrible. No screen and it wasn't exactly a heavy shot, it was one that needs to be saved by a goaltender at this level. It just seemed like a momentary lapse. Goalies have had that before for us and been very good goalies like Zane. I just wonder if Tomek has some lapses like that and coaches see it in practice then it is easy to see why the coaches would keep going with Johnson because he is more reliable and consistent. Wasn't meant to be a shot at Tomek really just more for some who have been whining about wanting to see Tomek all year that maybe that is a reason why Johnson has been in there night in and night out instead.
11. Thought this team had turned a corner with the Union game, last weekend at Omaha, and then the first half of the game tonight. Instead they decide to put no effort or energy into the 2nd half of the game and end up with another bad loss to a bad team at home just like Michigan State and Western Michigan. I know Tomek hasn't played and I'm sure he was nervous but I think we saw why Johnson has started so many games in a row and will continue to do so with the 2nd goal Tomek gave up. The Poganski penalty that put the nail in the coffin was a very weak call. Wolanin and Johnson have got to better defensively or they can't be on the ice. Have seen those 2 beat way too much with guys just getting behind them and giving up an odd man scoring chance. This team needs to respond tomorrow and respond in a big way.
12. It would be a scholarship offer from Minnesota.
13. Noah Gindorff from Crosby-Ironton.
14. Only thing is his official visit was set with Coach Sherels the night before Fleck was hired. Many think Sherels will be retained but you never know for sure until it is actually done.
15. Fleck got commits from 2 DE's who had been committed to Western Michigan and also offered another one. Gophers previously had 0 DE commits and not a whole lot of depth there on the current roster so probably still looking for a couple more but maybe some good news for UND with them adding the 2 from Western Michigan last night.
16. Loved the energy right from the drop of the puck. Jumped all over Omaha right away and didn't give them a chance to get back into it. Would expect a much better effort from Omaha tomorrow and probably a more physical style but if the guys bring the same energy and effort I don't think Omaha can skate with us consistently throughout the lineup.
17. They have actually done a really good job keeping the top Minnesota guys home the last few years. Have 4 of the top 5 again this year and the other one is committed to Harvard.
18. UND commit Ezekiel Ott is scheduled for an official visit to Minnesota for January 27th. The visit was scheduled by Mike Sherels last night. With Fleck being hired this morning it isn't for sure that Sherels will be back but most people around the Gopher program say it would be very smart of Fleck to keep him.
19. Hell of a game! Agree with what others have said wish they wouldn't go to the shootout in the gold medal game.
20. Rumor is Coyle has had communication with Flecks agent back to Christmas Eve. I don't have a lot of confidence in any administrative people at Minnesota but you would think they would be smart enough not to fire Claeys unless you have somebody already lined up especially at this time of the year. Sounds like there is a lot of confidence in ending up with either Fleck or Harsin from Boise St which wouldn't be too bad but I would have rather just gave Claeys at least another year. Fleck wants to stay in the Midwest and the Gophers play in the B1G West which is looked at by most as the weaker of the 2 divisions. They also have the new athletes village and one of the regents said on radio yesterday they could end up paying $3-$3.5 million a year for their next coach. Lots of reasons a coach could look to take the Minnesota job if he trusts the administration.
21. As a Gopher football fan I'm not happy at all with Claeys being fired. This staff had brought Minnesota back to respectability and was starting to take the next step. The staff is a great group of guys and most of them won't be out of work for long especially those on the defensive side of the ball. Claeys and then Sawvel are some of the best defensive minds out there and showed as DC's. I mean just look at the gameplan they put together to shut down one of the best passing offenses in the country even though they were missing 3 of their top 4 corners and a freshman All American safety. There are major problems with the administration and their mishandling of the alleged sexual assault is just one thing. A major problem is they just don't communicate very well at all which is also a big part of the boycott took place. The players feel very little respect, support, and trust from the AD and president. When they suspended the 10 players for the bowl game coaches found out about a half hour before a practice and the news came out during practice and no new information was given to the coaching staff. The AD Coyle lied about and continues to lie about Claeys being behind the players being suspended as Claeys was in San Diego for the Holiday Bowl press conference. Coyle also wouldn't answer any questions when he met with the team about the suspension citing student privacy laws but somehow the names of who was suspended was able to get out to the media quickly. A lot of the frustration from players, fans, and coaches with the suspension for the bowl game was 5 of the players had been suspended earlier in the year for the same incident and then suddenly another 5 appeared in this suspension for the same situation because of the EOAA which isn't exactly a fair unbiased group to determine an outcome in this situation. The boycott started because of the way administration didn't communicate the process but the players took that action because of the lack of the due process the players received. It wasn't really about the first 5 who had been investigated and suspended earlier this year before being allowed to come back. It was about the 2nd 5 who from all reports really weren't involved in any sexually activity at all but were in the same apartment at 1 time or another for some amount of time during the night in question. When meeting with some regents and the AD they ask for the 2nd 5 to be reinstated and the AD had ok'd that but the university's attorney eventually shut it down saying that the victim would have to give the athletic department the ok to reinstate those players which makes absolutely no sense. Not sure how many people know but the players also almost reinstated the boycott after they announced they would play as President Kaler spoke to the media after the players announced it and basically took all the credit for the players ending the boycott. Kaler had nothing to do with the boycott ending and he is lucky 2 members of the board of regents went to go calm the players down again to keep them from reinstating the boycott. The alleged sexual assault case is nowhere close to over either one of the Gophers top freshmen Carter Coughlin tweeted this today.

Both sides of the story deserve to be heard. pic.twitter.com/uLm1JjSgWp
— Carter Coughlin (@Cmoe34) January 4, 2017
Anyway more about what concerns UND I'm not sure how many transfers there will be from Minnesota. I know this team was very attached to this staff and there are a lot of strong statements and feelings right now but that is often the case when a coach is fired. PJ Fleck is rumored to be the next coach at Minnesota and while I'm not sold on him at all he does seem like the type of guy who could sell a lot of these guys on staying. The biggest thing with the transfers is the players aren't necessarily transferring because of the coach but because of the AD/President and as a coach how do you sell these players on those guys supporting you when the players have seen they haven't and the AD has flat out lied to these players. As for current commits if they decide to look elsewhere Andries had offers from pretty much everybody Oklahoma, Nebraska, Miami, Florida, etc. so he wouldn't be looking at UND. Abojei would probably look at Iowa St. as that was one of the other schools who got multiple visits from him this summer. Rousemiller does have a PWO offer from Minnesota.
22. Good road win. Really liked the move to put the 2 Poolman's together and Ausmus with Shaw today both pairs seemed solid.
23. Why would he be an LB? He told teams coming out of high school he wanted to play RB otherwise he wouldn't consider them.
24. Tweten from EGF? Has played for both the Minnesota Magicians in the NAHL and Cedar Rapids in the USHL this season. Has played 17 games with the Magicians scoring 4 goals and 9 assists. Also has 9 games with Cedar Rapids with no goals and 2 assists. I haven't seen him this year but going back to watching him at EGF he has good size and skill but skating needed to improve a little bit and he really just needed to put everything together.
