Solid win, generated a lot of very good chances maybe didn't put as many as we would like into the net but definitely enough to get the job done. Top to bottom just seemed like UND outworked Omaha and was all over them most of the game causing lots of turnovers. Thought the transition game was pretty good outside of about a 5 or so minute lapse in the 2nd where it got a little sloppy and when the transition game is good it is very tough to beat this team.

Minnesota state tournament seedings came out today. Mark Senden's Wayzata team is the 3 seed and will play around 1:30 on Thursday against Burnsville. Hain, Mattson, and Grand Rapids got the #4 seed and will face #5 Bemidji in the nightcap Thursday. The game will probably start somewhere around 8:30 in what might be the best first round game in either class.

Was listening to this some last night and it was a real good game with a great atmosphere as Aldrich Arena was sold out. The goal was a real nice play the Hill defenseman could have played it a lot better but great play by the Stillwater kid to send his team to state. The Stillwater win also made it so there will be no private schools in the AA state tournament this year.

Think the camera guys just didn't want to show any Sioux fans I saw pictures on Twitter of Sioux fans in the crowd. Even saw some UNO fans on Twitter complaining about season ticket holders selling their tickets for this weekend to Sioux fans.
-
Only had radio to go by tonight but seemed like a pretty solid game. UNO was lucky to get out of the 1st up 1 seemed like the Sioux generated a lot of chances just couldn't quite finish on any of them. Big goal early in the 2nd by Poolman and seemed like after that UND really controlled puck possession. The kill of Johnson's major was huge and didn't give UNO any life at all. Get Stecher back in the lineup tomorrow and I'd like to see Gersich in for someone too and go finish the job.

Grand Rapids wins 6-5 scoring the game winner with 6 seconds left. East had taken a 5-3 lead in the 3rd but Rapids was able to fight back. Just a great hockey game in an excellent atmosphere.

Hain and Mattson's Grand Rapids team tied with Duluth East 3-3 after 2. I know Hain has a goal sounds like a great game so far and Amsoil is packed you can listen here if you would like. http://radio.securenetsystems.net/v5/KOZYAM

Agreed very surprising to me that he would be suspended and I definitely disagree with it.

UND FIGHTING HAWKS vs. UMD Bulldogs - SATURDAY Gameday
SiouxScore replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Tough weekend of hockey but always good to come away with a sweep. Not a real crisp game offensively with lots of missed passes and maybe overhandling/overpassing the puck at times. The defense was very good tonight real good job of limiting time and space. Don't really want to see Duluth at all come playoff time not because of how good they are but because of how chippy they are especially with the stickwork. So much slashing from them that went uncalled this weekend surprised nobody left with a hand/wrist injury. Will probably see the same type of play from Omaha next week so we should be prepared. I don't think Stecher will be suspended next weekend nor do I think he should be. I thought the Duluth guy was going down already which made the hit look worse. -

UND FIGHTING HAWKS vs. UMD Bulldogs - FRIDAY Gameday
SiouxScore replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Yeah of course you can say that about half the stuff that happens in hockey games after the whistle. He did do it though and I'm just saying I don't think it should have been called the way it was. -

Toninato had been involved in just as much after the whistle stuff as well so if that's the case he should have went too. The refs let it go the previous the 3-4 times right before that play so the players keep doing it. You don't make a pathetic call like that at that time. -

A game that this Sioux team found a way to win. Wasn't perfect by any means but you have to be able to win games when you aren't at your best sometimes. Nice effort by Pogo to draw the penalty shot and take advantage of it. I can see the argument that it should have just been called a penalty instead but with the way the refs called it tonight it was time for us to get one of the calls. Need to do a better job with gap control tomorrow night I thought too many times we were give too much ice up. Also need to be better in the corners and 1-on-1 battles to be able to finish the sweep. Thought Duluth definitely got the benefit of a few calls tonight and we overcame it. Duluth was grabbing and hacking all night and the refs just let it go. The Caggiula penalty was a complete dive, Johnson penalty at the end of regulation was pathetic as the guy had just been holding his head down and he barely even made contact with him. In that situation you need to take both of them or nobody not one or the other. -
I've already went that route to get another Fighting Sioux jersey. It is pretty good quality, low price, and was pretty accurate. I compared it to an authentic jersey I have and about the only differences I found was the Sioux head was a little bit bigger and the logo was just a slightly different shade of tan. I knew there would be a little difference between it and an authentic but overall I was pretty happy with it especially for the price.

The last couple years with Zane we had a goalie capable of stealing games and making huge saves when we needed them. He did that against Ferris State to get us to the Frozen Four a couple years ago. Last year he did have one of his worst games in the Frozen Four but he was definitely a goalie capable of bailing out the team in front of him. I don't know if Cam has really done that yet this year and if he can or not. For the most part the team in front of him has done a pretty good job of keeping teams to the outside and limiting quality chances from the high percentage scoring areas.

UND FIGHTING HAWKS @ Denver - SATURDAY Gameday
SiouxScore replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Some of the conversation of Berry with TH: Too much lateral play especially in the 2nd period. Things to learn from this weekend and fix gotta get back on track. Faceoffs a point of emphasis not just centers but wings coverage too. Lost too many tonight end up chasing puck all the time. D spread too wide on the breakaway pass to Moore, shoulda been inside dots, too big of lane. Need to play with a lead that's when we've been most successful, hard to chase the game all weekend. Feels that adversity is good for the team to face if you handle it well and this is a strong group that will do that. -
UND FIGHTING HAWKS @ Denver - SATURDAY Gameday
SiouxScore replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Had chances but weren't able to cash in on them and DU's goalie made some big stops as well. A few defensive coverage breakdowns again and DU took advantage of them while Cam wasn't really able to come up with a key save. The powerplay generated some very good chances this weekend but going forward we have to be able to get some goals out of it and not just good chances. Pretty confident the few issues we saw this weekend like defensive coverage at times will be addressed and corrected this week and we will see a Fighting Sioux win over Duluth come Friday night. -
UND FIGHTING HAWKS @ Denver - SATURDAY Gameday
SiouxScore replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
I'd say it is more about the matchup than anything else for me. If it is between being the #2 at the X and facing someone like Boston U, Michigan, or Notre Dame or being the #1 in Cincy and getting a Robert Morris, Cornell, or Penn State I'd prefer being the #1 in Cincy. -
Had the better of the play for most of the game and at times dominated offensively. I thought one of the big differences in the game was DU's goalie came up with a couple big stops while Cam was solid but didn't really come up with anything big. LaDue and Thompson had a really tough night. A couple of DU goals were just the direct result of being a little lackadaisical in d-zone coverage and getting caught puck watching which hasn't happened much at all this season. I could see Shaw coming in for Thompson tonight other than that I'm not sure I'd make any changes maybe Wilkie for JJ. I really liked the way Gersich, Olson, and St. Clair each played last night so I would hope they all stay in. Clean up a few things and come away with the split tonight.

With all 27 on the roster healthy and only 23 allowed to travel Anderson, Chartrand, Gornall, and Tomek did not make the trip.
-
I wouldn't be shocked at all by that either. The last couple spots came down to Janatuinen, St.Clair, and Olson for me. I think St.Clair will keep getting better as he continues to get games and went with Olson over Janatuinen to bring a little more physical presence and I also thought JJ struggled a little against Western Michigan although it sounds like he might have been dealing with some sickness that weekend.
