I definitely noticed Mattson last night he is really skilled and solid skater too. He showed some physical play and willing to go along the walls and he will become better at those things as he adds more strength. He looked to play more of a playmaker role last night compared to other times I've seen him where he has been more aggressive driving the net and getting shots on net.
-
Miller is a junior I believe.
-
The more I see of Soph. defenseman Chase Hartje of Bemidji the more convinced I am that he will be a very good college player. He logged a lot of minutes tonight against Grand Rapids and was excellent. Great skater and puck mover he rushed the puck more tonight and was more offensive minded then I've seen in other games he is gonna be a real good one.

Mattson makes a great play to setup the game winner in OT for Grand Rapids.
-
Grand Rapids wins it 3-2 in OT on a great setup by Sioux commit Mattson. Great game between these 2 teams easily the best of the tournament so far. Would have liked to see them meet later in the tournament rather than the quarterfinals. Hopefully Grand Rapids can win a couple more and bring the AA title back to the north.
-
Pollock got his 2nd of the game for Bemidji early in the 3rd and that was the only goal in the 3rd. Bemidji 2 Grand Rapids 2 headed to OT.
-
Rapids answers with 2 in the 2nd including one from future Sioux Gavin Hain. 2-1 after 2 Bemidji will start the 3rd on the powerplay. Really good game between 2 very good teams wouldn't be surprised at all to see this one headed towards OT.
-
Bemidji leads Grand Rapids 1-0 after 1. Fast paced pretty even 1st period Jacks took advantage of a GR neutral zone turnover to gain the lead.
-
Eden Prairie beats Anoka 7-3. Bemidji and Grand Rapids will wrap up the quarterfinal action should be a great game.
-
Watching Eden Prairie/Anoka really like JR defenseman Nicky Leivermann from EP. He has shown a lot of offensive skill but also responsible in his own zone and is a good skater. Doesn't seem to be a real physical player but more uses position to take guys off the puck.
-
Eden Prairie and Anoka tied at 1 after 1. First time seeing Minnesota commit Casey Mittelstadt since last years tournament and he was very good then but has been even better so far very impressed with him.
-
Wayzata struggled some in the 1st but the goalie Schilling was great and kept them in it. Wayzata got going in the 2nd and now in the 3rd and is playing well showing good depth but its been a very physical fun game to watch.
-
Yes that is how he has played when I watched him. Watching yesterday he did a nice job covering the points and had a good backcheck where he stole the puck high in his d-zone and it lead to a 2-on-1 for his 3rd goal. I think he still has work to do in to become a complete player however I have seen other players far less active in the defensive zone than Johnson committed to D1 schools. I didn't see the 8A championship but caught some on the radio and it sounded like after the 1st EGF completely dominated that game but couldn't score so that wouldn't surprise me. It will be good to see him against a team like Breck tomorrow where there shouldn't be too much of a speed edge either way.
-
I agree with you I think UND will wait to see what he does in juniors a little while before they offer. I wouldn't be surprised if he has some offers or gets some after the state tournament. I think you've said St. Cloud before and I could definitely see the fit there wouldn't be surprised if he has or will soon get offers from Bemidji and Mankato too.
-
Afternoon session wasn't real competitive at all. Breck beat Mankato West 8-0 and it wasn't even that close and Thief River Falls beat Princeton 6-1. Tonight Hermantown and Litchfield could be ugly and I think it would be a win for Litchfield to just keep this game out of running time. The nightcap between St. Paul Academy and St. Cloud Cathedral should be a pretty good game though.

He really kind of exploded this season. Thief River like East Grand Forks and Warroad as well does play a pretty solid schedule though so it isn't like his stats are too inflated which is often the case with kids from Southern MN class A schools. TRF played 6 AA schools Bemidji and Roseau twice each, Moorhead, and Tartan. Also played traditionally good class A schools outside their section in Blake, Breck, Hermantown, and Totino-Grace as well as Duluth Denfield and Hibbing who were solid this year. This was my 5th time seeing him this year and I like his game. He has a ton of speed, good hands, and a good shot. Also did his job in his own zone and made a couple nice defensive plays that led to offense. Also really liked the defenseman Brendan Bushy for TRF he has good size and seems like a fluid skater with skill. Really good vision of the ice and knows when to push the pace and when he should slow it down. Will be good to see them against a good quick Breck team with some solid prospects of their own especially Ellingson and Blake.
-
Vancouver took him in the 3rd round. Read he would have been the probable 1st overall pick but he wouldn't commit to WHL. I agree with you I don't think it is a sure thing he ends up at wisconsin could be influenced by who drafts him.

NTDP defenseman Max Gildon commits to Wisconsin. Gildon is a highly skilled defenseman with a lot of potential I know UND had interest in him. Maxwell‏@GildonMax 2h2 hours ago Proud to announce my commitment to the University of Wisconsin! Thank you to everybody who has helped along the way!

I think so, I just watched them play Moorhead in the 8AA championship Wednesday and really liked a few of their guys. I think they may have 3-6 guys who have a chance to play D1 hockey but will have to play juniors first before they get an offer. I liked a couple SR defensemen Fitzgerald and Leitner and forward Johnson, JR forwards Tatro and Pollock, and Soph. defenseman Chase Hartje.

Solid win, generated a lot of very good chances maybe didn't put as many as we would like into the net but definitely enough to get the job done. Top to bottom just seemed like UND outworked Omaha and was all over them most of the game causing lots of turnovers. Thought the transition game was pretty good outside of about a 5 or so minute lapse in the 2nd where it got a little sloppy and when the transition game is good it is very tough to beat this team.

Minnesota state tournament seedings came out today. Mark Senden's Wayzata team is the 3 seed and will play around 1:30 on Thursday against Burnsville. Hain, Mattson, and Grand Rapids got the #4 seed and will face #5 Bemidji in the nightcap Thursday. The game will probably start somewhere around 8:30 in what might be the best first round game in either class.

Was listening to this some last night and it was a real good game with a great atmosphere as Aldrich Arena was sold out. The goal was a real nice play the Hill defenseman could have played it a lot better but great play by the Stillwater kid to send his team to state. The Stillwater win also made it so there will be no private schools in the AA state tournament this year.
